* A new poll commissioned by the Sun-Times shows lots of interest in the coming mayoral primary, but probably not quite as much as political reporters…
And according to this poll, there is no clear frontrunner…

But with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points, the poll essentially put the nine contenders it included all in a statistical dead heat. […]
The survey relied on 600 personal interviews with randomly selected registered Chicago voters. It was conducted Wednesday evening, just a day and a half after Mayor Daley made his stunning announcement that he would not seek a seventh term.
* And there’s not nearly as much fear of the future out there as one might suspect, at least, not yet…
* The pollster the paper used was once brutally slammed by its late political columnist Steve Neal, so the Sun-Times’ choice was odd, to say the least.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the poll did find evidence of votes breaking along racial lines. Dart’s strongest support was among white voters, Meeks’ among black voters, and clearly Gutierrez benefitted the most from his base of Hispanic voters.
Emanuel, who is white, curiously also found his largest base of support among Hispanic voters — conceivably because “Emanuel” can also be read as a Hispanic name.
Voters who said they were most eager to vote were most likely to give their support to Dart or Gutierrez.
The survey did not include every possible candidate but focused on those most often mentioned as likely contenders.

Triple-J was smacking Rahm and, by extension, Obama last night on the news about unemployment.
Does Trips really think he’s viable for mayor after his little dance with Blago on the Senate seat? That’s chutzpah, and probably waving a red flag to the federales bulls.

Those who think the Blagojevich trial fatally wounded J3 need to remember the dynamics of the coming campaign. Blagojevich wasn’t completely fatally wounded among black voters by his trial’s outcome. I doubt J3 was, either.

I wonder which canidate willbe the first to come out proising to undo the sale of the pakin meters, to better fund the schools and put more cops on the street to reduce violence…
If triple J runs, he could camapaign on the third airport creating jobs and bringing more money to the city….
I still like Sandi for a mayoral run myself.

The survey includes NO WOMEN!
STEP 1 Add one woman; any woman, and repeat the survey.
STEP 2 Add LISA MADIGAN as the only woman, and repeat the survey again.
LISA MADIGAN could gather 5 times the necessary sognatures to get on the ballot; after having been re-elected as AG, and before the filing deadline; thus eliminating the opportunity for any effective challenge to her petitions.
If LISA MADIGAN were on the 5th Floor at City Hall, that would neatly dispose of both RAHMBO and Dart as any thorn in the Speaker’s side. This would also consolidate the political power of both the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago in one family.
The Speaker would also make sure that she has the horsepower to mount a successful challenge to the petitions of anyone that might loook like they could pose an impediment to her ascendancy to the throne.

Another point is that the Madigan squared power bridge between Chicago and Springfield could be constructed without suburban or downstate voters having any say in the matter; AND the State Democratic Party Chairman could use the VELVET HAMMER in helping to fill the vacancy in the AG’s office in 2011 as well.

I’m not a Chicagoan, but among the names listed, Meeks has the best reputation of the bunch. It’s the one I actually respect based on what I’ve read of the man.

The world changes November 2nd. This impacts this race. The Majority Party is going to take an historic hit. The typical Democrat games will end. Chicagoans may want a piece of this new action. We are bankrupted. We know it.
So this frothiness over the current players is for naught.
We know Chicagoans are unhappy. We know they are scared. They want change. The next Mayor will be the one who can win over these voters. If the Democrats go with the status quo, they will not win these voters.
None of the names listed are businesspeople at a time when jobs and business are top priorities. So there is a HUGE opening for an authentic outsider millionaire businessperson to be a dominant player.
So can it with all this nonsense. It is like watching rich folks fight over the shuffleboard schedule on the Titanic. Iceberg ahead November 2nd!

David would be a solid solid candidate!

Martians in New Jersey? Frogs falling from the sky? Barring that, it’ll be pretty much the same. The American system is built for incremental change, despite what the easily alarmed think is happening.
