Question of the day

Posted in:

* From a press release…

Governor Pat Quinn today joined the cast and crew of the new television drama “Ride-Along” to highlight its impact on Illinois’ economy. The show is expected to generate approximately $25 million economic activity and create more than 400 Illinois jobs.

“‘Ride-Along’ is great example of how the film industry creates good Illinois jobs and improves our economy,” said Governor Quinn. “The state’s strengthened film tax credit demonstrates our commitment to growing this industry and creating more opportunities for people to work.”

Based in Chicago, “Ride-Along” is a police drama that follows Chicago police detectives in their day-to-day lives on the streets. The show was created by Rockford native Shawn Ryan and stars Chicago native Jennifer Beals. “Ride-Along,” which filmed a one-hour pilot episode in Chicago in April, was picked up as a series by 20th Century Fox Television in May. The show began filming in July and will premiere midseason on FOX.

* The Question: If a TV show was made about this year’s Illinois campaign, what would it be called? Bonus points for suggesting actors, plot lines etc.

  1. The series was done over 50 years ago, just pick any of the Marx Brothers movies, with Brady being played by Groucho, Chico playing Quinn and Harpo playing Whitney. To paraphrase Groucho ” I would never want to be governor of a state that would want me to be governor”.

  20. “Madigan’s Isle”

Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale,
A tale of a ship of state.
    That impeached Rod Blagojevich,
But impeached him way too late.

    His replacement was a reformer,
who seemed to be living in a cave.
With him the Democrats had hoped,
To avoid a Tea Party wave.

    The Budget started getting rough,
    The bills weren’t getting paid.
Felons wound up out of jail.
    Priorities weren’t weighed.

The Democrats have run aground, as the GOP surrounds.
    With Madigan
    The Governor too
    Rod Blagojevich and his wife
    The Retiring Mayor
    The Trailblazer and Banker’s Son
    Here on Madigan’s Isle

So this is the tale of the Castaways
They’re here for a long long time
They’ll have to make the best of things
    It’s an uphill climb.

No support, no power, no credit cards
    No offices they rule.
    Like the Democrats in ‘72
After they elected that Walker fool.

So join us and vote November 2
You’re sure to get a smile
    Watching knowitalls eating crow
    Here on Madigan’s Isle!

  24. The B-Team

After a whirlwind series of unlikely events — Obama elected president, Burris appointed, Blago impeached, Lisa M. staying put, DuPageicide in the GOP primary — four flawed misfits unexpectedly find themselves vying for top statewide offices in the Land of Lincoln.

Each member of the B-Team brings something special to the table:

David Blaine as Alexi G: “The Magician.” Not for his ball-handling skills, but for his ability to make $300 million of FDIC funds disappear overnight.

Will Sampson as Bill Brady: “The Chief.” A formerly garrulous gadfly, he inexplicably stopped talking after his primary win, spending his days until the election wordlessly pushing a broom under the Capitol dome. But the man is full of secrets, especially as to how he plans to govern.

Mike Myers as Mark Kirk: “International Man of Mystery.” Swashbuckling congressman whose many amazing adventures seem too good to be true.

and Jerry Mathers as Pat Quinn: “The Beaver.” Good-hearted doofus who just can never seem to get it right.

The B-Team is brought to you by the primary voters of Illinois. They are solely responsible for its content.

  27. “Shoot em up” - starring Pat Quinn and the cast of characters that have performed simultaneous drive bys on his campaign as his candidacy continues to free-fall. Highlights include House Speaker Michael who recently decried Quinn’s tax increase, Mayor Daley who shocked the world by announcing his retirement, Representative Franks who refused to endorse Quinn on Fox Chicago News, and finally independent candidate for Governor and perennial joke Scott Lee Cohen, who promises to spend millions on his campaign and suck away the few percent that could keep Quinn’s race close.

  28. I’m not answering QOTD, but commented on the subject of the release. Transformers got all this media play for being in town for a matter of weeks. A TV show, like this one, mean regular employment for many rather than project employement for a few weeks. This show is much more of a boon the local tv/film crowd than Transformers.

The Blue Tribe hopes to get some reinforcements from the far northern Big Shoulder City but it’s leader has no interest in joining the conflict.
Both the Blue and Red tribes hope that they might get assistance from the Big Govment far away but their delegates, Red Story Teller. and Blue Shady Friends, are embroiled in their own conflicts.
