* A buddy of mine said he’d heard a Bill Brady ad on black radio. I asked if he could get me a copy. This was recorded off the radio and there’s a static spike near the beginning, so watch your speakers, but if you do nothing else today you absolutely, positively must listen to this…
Script…
Music lyrics: The time for change is now. We can show you how. Get in the groove, let’s make a move, with Bill Brady.
Narration: Now is the time to make a move in the right direction. It’s time for a change, but you can’t change or fix anything if you are part of the problem. Our last governor was part of the problem. So is our present governor. You can’t cut deals with everyone you think will help you get elected. We need a governor for all the people of Illinois that has a plan to get us out of, and keep us out of this mess we’re in. A governor who’s independent in policy, but dependable in times of need. It’s not about whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat. It’s about getting Illinois back on the right track. And Bill Brady is the one who can get the job done. So let’s make the right move with Bill Brady.
Music lyrics: Get in the groove, let’s make a move, with Bill Brady.
He’s no Rickey Hendon, but that’s quite a catchy tune.
* Our old friend Simon Edelman at the Quinn campaign sent a video over with this note…
Don’t be surprised if you see it this Tuesday on Glee.
I have no idea what that means, but the video/ad is pretty darned funny. And I mean intentionally funny, unlike Brady’s radio spot. Watch…
Oh, man. Some of those clips were painful to watch. Funny, but painful.
* I think Simon did this one as well…
* Republican congressional candidate Joe Walsh claims this is the “internal version” of a new TV ad…
* As a commenter pointed out, Gov. Pat Quinn is the political version of a jam band. Maybe not a good jam band, but a jam band nonetheless. Here’s another long riff at the SJ-R editorial board…
* And here’s your exclusive preview of WBEZ’s “Best Game in Town.” From the producer….
Several congressional districts are up in the air and polling information has key Illinois districts trending republican. We talk with WBEZ’s Sam Hudzik about the local districts that may go blue. And this week, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews taped his show Hardball from the University of Illinois (Chicago). Steve Edwards sat down with the longtime cable talk show host to talk about the possibility of a congressional swing and to assess how President Obama is performing.
*** UPDATE 1 *** Justice Tom Kilbride’s latest radio ad responding to JUSTPAC’s ad…
*** UPDATE 2 *** I gave a speech today, so I’m behind. Here’s the roundup…
* Rich Whitney: Taking the Crazy Out of Illinois Politics
* Green Party governor candidate holds protest after being excluded from debate
* Sheila Simon, Baxter Swilley Debate While Plummer Skips Out
* GOP Lt. Guv Candidate A No-Show At Forum
* Lt. Gov. candidates spar over debates

* Illinois Not Looking So ‘Blue’ in Key Congressional Races
* Incumbents call for civility
* Halvorson, Kinzinger clash over economic issues
* Hare-Schilling debate is set for next week

- I have no idea what that means -
Glee is an extremely popular television show.

In Brady’s ad, what the heck does this mean: “You can’t cut deals with everyone you think will help you get elected.” Wow.
Lisa’s ads are excellent, but I can’t believe she wasted all that money on so many spots. They look great, but I bet they weren’t cheap.
Comment by Anonymous Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 2:43 pm
Quinn video = excellent.
Walsh ad = a phony. This guy lies. There’s no way he has money to put it on TV.
Comment by Whatever Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 2:43 pm
That first Siman ad (the Glee one) is awesome. I assume that they have bought airtime during Glee on Tuesday night?
Great ad.
Comment by dave Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 2:50 pm
The Glee ad is hilarious.
Comment by Cheswick Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 2:50 pm
Walsh, running for Congress for all the wrong reasons. Hey, he rode a bicycle through the district once upon a time.
Comment by Honest Abe Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 2:52 pm
Oh come on, that Brady radio ad is the most condescending thing ever. Seriously? Can a white Republican really not just talk directly to black voters? Must he go out and hire a guy who sounds like Barry White? This is the problem when you’re a guy like Brady and the only time you think about black people is when you’re want something from them. That ad’s not serious. It’s a caricature.

Where’s JJJ “The Lover”?
Comment by Davey Boy Smithe Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 2:54 pm
The Unite Ad was ridiculous and trivializes the election. Democrats need to make the election about the voters’ interests, not about them.
Quinn’s SJ-R interview is another example of the Rambling Prose Quinn uses to explain the unexplainable—a $15 billion budget deficit…. and growing…budget mess.
Comment by Louis Howe Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 2:55 pm
The Brady radio spot is for real? I’d love to know who wrote and produced. It’s a stone-cold groove.
“Glee” is popular among my junior high school daughter and her friends. I’m not sure if it translates to a voting age population, unless it’s intended for parents forced to run out of the room when it comes on.
It’s a typical Fox Show, filled with characters that the folks at Fox News say are bad for America.
That Rupert; he knows how to make both sides of the buck.

- I’m not sure if it translates to a voting age population -
I don’t know word, I’m in my 20’s and everyone my age seems to watch it. May not have a huge impact, but I think it might remind a few younger voters that Brady/Plummer aren’t cut out for governing.
Comment by Small Town Liberal Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:04 pm
Lisa’s ads stand out for their humanity and their class. Two good associations for any politician these days.
Comment by Patrick Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:05 pm
the Brady ad is a joke and condescending to African americans. Why wont Brady attend any of the black forums that have been held in Chicago? The African American community will turnout in large numbers for Quinn. We recognize a phony when we see one and brady is a phony
Comment by Anonymous Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:06 pm
@Anonymous, how did you let Blago slip by then?
Comment by Davey Boy Smithe Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:08 pm
Someone has got to put the glee one on network TV, right before Letterman or Leno. That is great. and after all the other attack crap people will love it.
Wow, “Get in the Grove” Has anyone in the Brady Campaign ever crossed Rte 80 south of135th?
They run that enough times they will really get the Black vote out- for Quinn.
Comment by frustrated GOP Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:08 pm
Quinn video a hoot! The school building used looks like the former Chenoa High School now Chenoa Elementary School in the Prairie Central School District. I taught at CHS for 12 years in the 70’s and 80’s.

Where’d that Brady narrator score his Quaaludes?

Comment by MrJM Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:10 pm
The heck with the narrator, MrJM, I want to know what Brady took or drank prior to running this ad!

Maybe you should ask Al Reynolds…

Interesting Walsh has an ad cut that doesn’t include the proper federal approved for.

Thanks for linking to the Hendon ad again. That thing never gets old.
Comment by charles in charge Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:22 pm
The Glee ad may earn a Cleo…very clever and sharp.
Comment by Commonsense in Illinois Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:23 pm
The Brady ad is terrible, but I don’t particularly like the Quinn ad either. It trivializes the election somehow, and I don’t believe it will appeal to anyone 30 and up. I don’t see young people really mobilizing this year. I’m in my upper-20s and many of my peers have no opinion on either candidate, are flat-out annoyed by all the political ads, and have little to no interest in voting (despite my constant harassment). The Quinn ad was really funny and quite well-made, but I just don’t see it motivating anyone to get out and vote for Quinn, or even cast an anti-Brady vote.
Comment by lawyerlady Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:24 pm
WoW that Quinn add is funny and good… now if they only run it downstate with a big enough buy that people see it….
Comment by Ghost Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:25 pm
Brady should have just run an ad like this instead:
I know there’s only, only one like you
There’s no way they could have made two
You’re, you’re all I’m living for, your love I’ll keep for evermore
You’re the first, my last, my everything, Now vote for meeeee.
Comment by VoterUSA Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:26 pm
Only three things to say about Brady ad:
Stupid!
Stupid!!
Stupid!!!

Simon is crazy talented. Great video. And I love Glee.

Another great reason Quinn should support legalizing marijuana.

Word is obviously a closet gleek
Comment by Ghost Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:43 pm
That Walsh ad did not start with the Pledge of Allegience.
Why does Joe Walsh hate America?
By the way “Moved back home to run for Congress?” Seems like an odd admission. He didn’t move back because he really wanted to live there. He just moved back to run for Congress.
Comment by Skeeter Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:45 pm
Incidentally — beautiful job of carrying a theme through a series of ads by Lisa Madigan. Classy, thoughtful, well-aimed — really nice work. Who does her media?
Comment by Soccermom Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:49 pm
Her media is done by a corporate firm. They don’t do political ads, which is why these ads are so different.
Comment by Rich Miller Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:51 pm
The only thing I can say about Brady’s black vote strategy is that I think paying off ministers was more thought out.
Comment by Phineas J. Whoopee Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:53 pm
The Quinn ad is tremendous. Really stands out from all the other crap this year. Simon should get his TV change big time. He should have been running all of Quinn’s TV. Whether this ad makes it to TV, I doubt it. But, what an ad.
By the way Glee is one of the top rated shows among 18 - 49 year olds according to Nielson so plenty of voters watch that show.
Comment by Niles Township Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:53 pm
The Glee ad is a hoot…the part with Plummer in it, is priceless.
Comment by VoterUSA Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 3:57 pm

Simon’s ad is kick-butt good. Wow.
Comment by David Ormsby Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 4:00 pm
HAHA Brady’s ad is hilarious.
Comment by Bring Back Boone's Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 4:01 pm
LOVE LOVE LOVE Quinn’s Glee ad but I give it a day before somebody (Fox or Brady partisans) complains to YouTube about copyright infringement for the use of the show’s logo and the amazingly perfect “Billy Madison” clip.
If Quinn’s lucky he can get Fox to threaten a lawsuit about it and get a lot more attention to it.
Too bad Quinn can’t put an ad like this on air though. I think it would really cut through the clutter of a lot of the other stuff. Especially the stammering by Brady and Plummer. Wow. Just wow.
Comment by hisgirlfriday Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 4:09 pm
Don’t worry about the absence of a required statement on the Walsh commercial. According to the article in the Tribune, he does not have any cash on hand to broadcast it.
Comment by Honest Abe Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 4:10 pm
Is it wrong that I just stopped listening to Quinn. He went from one subject to another and said nothing particularly exciting.
Comment by Levois Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 4:15 pm
I don’t think there is a copyright on the Glee logo. It’s a regular font on every computer and it’s just someone’s hand. Did glee get permission to use it from the LOSER poster Jason Biggs made a bunch of years ago? I think not.
Go get um Quinn!

Catch a rising star and put him in your pocket, never let him get away… save him for a rainy day.
Comment by SilverBack Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 4:20 pm
Well Pat Quinn does have one thing going for him. Now future gubernatorial candidates can vette and select their running mates. Hopefully no more Jason Plummers or Scott Lee Cohen although Cohen mercifully left the race only to run for governor himself as an independent. OK! That’s enough painful vid.
Comment by Levois Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 4:34 pm
After watching the Glee ad, I don’t see how anyone can fault Pat Quinn for bumbling. He may ramble but at least he can talk! Neither Brady or Plummer appear to be much of a Statesman.
Comment by Both Sides Now Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 5:09 pm
Simon’s videos are so much better than Quinn’s actual campaign ads.
Comment by Major Frank Burns Friday, Oct 22, 10 @ 6:16 pm
The Glee piece was refreshing! Great job by Simon:)

I like how Quinn knocks Jeb Bush when Jeb was 10x a better governor than Quinn wished he could be.

The Glee Quinn ad is probably his best one. Ever. Really good stuff. I wonder if that show has the viewers he needs to make a diff.
