Congressman Jerry Weller will have his political office as long as he cares to continue to run for it. The Illinois Democrats have always had candidates run against Weller that were virtual “unknowns”. The Democrats always have chosen some “no name” to represent the Democrat Party against Jerry Weller. Last time it was Teri Renner, a county board member from Bloomington, Il. The election before that it was Keith Van Duyne, a guy from Wilmington, Illinois that was barely known by the people in his own small town where he lived and grew up. It is actually funny. This time they have an “unknown” who used to be an ex-CIA employee. Nobody ever heard of him before nor will they after this November election. Next election, they will get the some local dog catcher from Hooterville, Illinois to run against Congressman Weller.
The Democrats have basically “thrown in the towel” as far as trying to defeat Congressman Jerry Weller. There is only one Democrat in Weller’s district that could defeat Weller or at least make it a very close race. That is the current Will County Executive and former Illinois State Senator Larry Walsh. But, Executive Walsh has no desire to challenge Weller for his political office at this period in his life.
Look for another easy victory for Congressman Weller come the general election in November. In the meantime, the Illinois Democrats will begin searching for a former dog catcher from Hooterville to “groom” and challenge Weller in the future.

I am so mad about Cook County looking at instituting a smoking ban! This is another threat to local government!

Rich it appears that the GA has pushed the session calendar back a day. Can you confirm?

On the WGN Morning News today, Andy Martin said that the Tribune’s Rick Pearson “looks like a child molester.” And I thought Judy’s “morons” comment was bad. What does a child molester look like, by the way? And what does Pearson’s looks have to do with his journalistic competence?
On another matter, I read in the Sun-Times that on Friday Gidwitz’s 99-year-old father made a $500,000 contribution to his campaign. If this is correct, are we to believe that a 99-year-old is of sound mind and competent to make such a large donation?

It would appear that Beowulf (at least from his comments here) is a Weller employee. I mean, only a Weller employee could blindly assert that the man has his job for as long as he wants it and completely ignore the fundraising scandals, lack of attentiveness to the district and general demographics. Over the last 4 years, the district has become Republican +1 according to the Cook Report. The DCCC is throwing money and support behind Pavich, the 5 time commended former CIA counter-terrorism officer (not an anonymous employee)and Weller has been forced to engage Pavich on numerous occasions. Pavich has got more money than any other past Weller challenger, has (from what I hear) hundreds of volunteers and has started to collect large checks from labor and pacs. Additionally, it appears that Weller has been polling for some time, but has yet to release the numbers, which sorta indicates that his numbers are a bit in the tank. All in all, while the scenario doesn’t add up to a guaranteed win for Pavich, it certainly suggests a rosier picture for the Democrat and a worse picture for Weller that Beowulf seems capable of acknowledging.

The 2 guys running against JJJ remind me of the 2 guys running against Hastert. But I guess that’s why we have a 2 party system.
