· State Journal-Register’s website still being slammed by high traffic because of their storm coverage. They’ve put up a temporary home page to deal with the huge demand. You can find photo gallery links at that page. Meanwhile, the SJ-R reports that 1,548 homes were damaged by the storm and 1,000 of them are uninhabitable.
· Record low number of voters registered in Chicago. At least dating back to 1942 and maybe since the ’20s, when women got the vote.
· Lt. governor race roundup.
· Tribune profiles Duckworth.
· Kadner: “In a year full of dark news about corruption in Illinois politics, there has been one ray of sunshine.”
· Daily Illini editor fired over cartoon.
· Dems hope to take GOP spots on Will County board.
· Hey, Tribsters, if you have a political bloggy type thing, aren’t you supposed to update it every now and then? As of this morning, no posts in three days.
· Guv hopefuls avoided the spotlight yesterday, stayed in their offices. Strange.

Finally, there’s a woman named Debra Shore who is running for Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. In her literature she notes that even her name, Shore, bespeaks her watery commitment. I wonder how she would handle her last name if it was Sewage?

There was one candidate not sitting in an office (or campaigning on the taxpayers dime) on Tuesday: Democratic Challenger Edwin Eisendrath.
Edwin Eisendrath was fighting hard for every vote all day long. Tuesday’s busy day of campaigning included:
- delivering a speech to voters at the Union League club
- talking to commuters at the EL stop at 95th & the Dan Ryan
- participating in candidate forum in Chatham
- participating in the Lisle Township Democrats meeting and the DuPage County Democrats meeting.
Today Edwin has already been:
- live on the set of the WGN Morning News
- live in studio on the Don Wade and Roma show on WLS 890AM. (Note: Don & Roma said his chainsaw ad was the best political ad they had ever seen).
Right now Edwin is talking to commuters at the Armitage El Stop. And that’s just this morning.
Edwin Eisendrath will work hard all day, everyday until election day to remind voters that THEY have the real choice on March 21st.

Phil Kadner’s column is interesting. If it is the job of the Public Access Counselor to, ” to keep our government bodies running in an open and honest manner”, what is the job of Lisa Madigan’s Executive Inspector General? What has Lisa Madigan’s Executive Inspector General accomplished in the past two years?
If the Public Access Counselor regulates freedom of information in the State of Illinois, why hasn’t she regulated why the Offices of Executive Inspector General operate in secrecy and when you go to the “public records” section of the Governor’s Office of Executive Inspector General the viewer is linked to the U.S Department of Justice Freedom of Information web page.
Should not some of the work of the Executive Inspector General’s be privy to the Freedom of Information Act?
It appears to me that the Public Access Counselor and the Executive Inspector General in the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, maintain the same functions.
In addition, it is my belief that IAG Lisa Madigan created the Public Access Counselor in an effort to negate appointing an Executive Inspector General who is supposed to have authority over her to investigate her if there be a need. I believe that the IAG did not want anyone with authority to investigate her. I also believe that the IAG realized that she would not be able to negate appointing an Executive Inspector General as it would have raised questions from the public.
However, I also believe that the Executive Inspector General for the Office of the Illinois Attorney General is a do nothing job. After all, do you think the Office of the Illinois Attorney General would admit to wrongdoing by one of her employees and put that wrongdoing in writing and possibly damamge the Ethical reputation of the OOIAG?

Based on the emailed news I’ve been receiving as a D.I. alum, the Daily Illini editor was not fired over running the cartoon per se. Rather, the firing was the result of keeping the whole shenanigan a secret from the entire editorial board (who would normally vote and approve/reject such things) and then lying over lies in the aftermath….
Just sayin’.
On another topic… I’m not voting for Deb because of her last name - I’m voting for her because she actually gets that MWRD should be actually about water and not simply the process of handling water.
