* Since it’s Valentine’s Day, how about composing a Valentine for an Illinois politician? Choose anyone you want, but, as always, keep it clean and state-centric.
And, of course, snark is not required but is “heartily” encouraged.

Dear Speaker Madigan:
Be our Valentine. Illinois faces difficult decisions ahead. You hold the levers of power, and it’d be swell if you used that power to fix our state. We need a leader. Illinois needs your love…

I don’t have a valentine for any politician, but I can imagine the one most of them would send to us
“You only hurt the ones you love.”
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Dear Lisa,
I engineered the election of Patsy Quinn, and we’ve passed a huge tax increase. We’re working on the other stuff, so you can come in and say “Hey! Wasn’t me.”

Dear Governor Quinn,
Please keep fighting your petty battles with Indiana, New Jersey and Wisconsin over the dwindling supply of US manufacturing jobs. Don’t worry about trying to cooperate regionally in a global economy by investing together in transit, infrastructure and education.
Remember, all your job are belong to us now.
Love,
Hu Jintao

Governor Quinn, the taxpayers are all in,
we have no more change to spare.
Some state employees too, have deferred pay for you,
to use to towards the budget somewhere.
Please spend no more, we cannot afford,
More and more social programs.
Pay those late bills, get the debt closer to nil,
If not, the next time the voter might say SCRAM!
Happy Valentine’s Day

But Governor Quinn,

simply by not being Bill Brady.

well, I was going to write about Rahm and his Boehner orange face, but with love for EBBrowning, this is for all the politicians who care about money…
How do I tax thee? Let me count the ways.
I tax thee to the depth and breadth and height
My votes can reach, when voters out of sight
For the ends of incumbency and ideal pension.
I tax thee to the level of every day’s
Most precinct captain need, by session and tight vote.
I tax thee freely, as politicians strive for their right.
I tax thee purely, as we turn from reason.
I tax thee with the passion put to my use
In my own griefs, and with my children’s fate.
I tax thee with a life I fear to lose
With my lost voters. I tax thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but tax thee better when I am a lobbyist.

Governor Quinn,
I hope you have a wonderful Valentines Day. Last week I signed a piece of paper that stated that I’m getting a $.25 per hour pay raise for my part-time job with the state. Since I’m a poor college student I was happy, but since then I was told today to not get a raise and my pay is dropping $0.25 per hour. I would like to thank you for all you’ve done. So, here is the question, will you be my Valentine? You will have to pay for my expenses since I can’t afford it anymore.
P.S. My supervisor just got a $5000 pay raise per year.

An Ode to Blago-
Well you wished upon a star
That turned into a plane
And I guess that’s right on par…
Quinn’s left to blame.
If you were a pill
I’d dispose of a handful at my will
And I’d flush you gone with a feeling sweet and strong
Plenty of agencies you shake up
With Dick Mell you should make-up
But like a fool and the morning star you’re gone
Tonight, ignore pols of your kind
Tomorrow, you’ll be serving time.
Valentine.
With apologizes to Paul Westerberg.

Dear GA and Pat Quinn,
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways -
Do I love thee for the way you never paid the pension payments and stole money from the pension fund, but not from yours, and helped to create this billions of dollar deficit? - No.
Do I love thee for the way you kicked the can down the road and never took a step to fix the fiscal problem because you wanted to maintain your status quo? - No..
Do I love thee for waiting until after the election to ensure you kept your job before you seriously began to try to fix the fiscal mess? - No…
Do I love thee for the way you are laying all the blame on State employees for the fiscal crisis instead of owning up to your malfeasance? - No …..
Do I love thee for the way you connived to contribute the least possible for your furlough days even though most employees paid much more for theirs? No……..
Do I love thee for the way you still are playing your little games even though there are many who are hurting because of your continued inaction, and none of you is coming up with any real plan to fix the deficit that remains even after the tax increase except to continue to bash state employees and try to balance the budget on their backs? No……………
Sorry, I guess in retrospect I don’t love thee.
In fact come to think of it not only do I not love thee,…. I really don’t like thee.
A Land of Lincoln taxpayer.
