Well, the upside is that he doesn’t have to worry about getting a client and being found incompetent, so overall ….

It’s amazing to me that this guy passed the bar exam in the first place.

Was there a dissent, or was it unanamous?

This is a completely wrong outcome and our society is the worse off for it. We are so intent to punish others, to make ourselves feel good. We are so small. RB could have been sentenced to his option: 7 years in prison or 12 years as a public service lawyer with a home monitoring device. That way he would have the option of using his education to accomplish socially good results, overseen by the court, without customary privileges. That way he could redeem himself, help his family, and society would benefit. But that is not an option. Our lawmakers have defined the range of options for the judges. We elect the lawmakers. We are so small.
Perhaps in another generation or two….

…like he ever used it?

James…there is nothing to prevent RB from providing that service while incarcerated, he just won’t be able to act as a lawyer …of which he has little experience in the first place. It may take him those ’seven years’(maybe more) to re-learn what the legal system is all about. That would be a win-win for all those except maybe those to whom he provides legal assistance.

Where is a guy like Scott Lee Cohen supposed to go the next time he needs an experienced, highly ethical lawyer such as Rod Blagojevich? Bleepin’ sad, just bleepin’ sad.
