Ron Paul, Dan Patlak. IIRC the other races were unopposed or no opponent. I early voted.
Dear Cook County GOP: Please find someone decent to run against Anita Alvarez for Cook County State’s Attorney in November.
Comment by Ravenswood Right Winger Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 8:49 am
Pulling for Romney, Hage for state house, and Patlak. Hoping for wins for Kinzinger, Raja, Halvorson. 2 of those 3 aren’t going to win but I am glad they ran.

Lived in Springfield almost 20 years and finally have some contested Primaries:
Matt Goetten for Congress and Winston Taylor for Rep. (Madigan has gone overboard in the negative mail). As well as uncontested race for State Senate Andy Manar.
Comment by Spliff Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 9:11 am
Voted yesterday.
Who I voted for in the Cook County Democratic Primary says less about me than whom I didn’t vote for.
In races where a Democrat was running unopposed and I’ve been underwhelmed by their job performance, I skipped the race.
Smart candidates take note of under-voting.
My most enthusiastic vote was for John Cameron as a delegate for Barack Obama.
John’s less of a father figure to statehouse progressives and more like a favorite uncle.
Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 9:25 am
All the action in McLean County is on the R ballot, so even though it pains me to no end, I’ll take one of those so I can vote for Tom Pliura for State Senate and Jane Foster for State’s Atty.
Comment by Rayne of Terror Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 9:25 am
I’m going to vote for the canary in the coal mine, Ron Paul.
His economics are loony, but he’s the only one running for president who recognizes that 9/11/01 were the actions of 20 punks with box cutters, and not an existential threat that requires giving away all our liberties.
Think about it: the president of the United States now has assumed the power to assassinate United States citizens. And no one else has a problem with that.
Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 9:37 am
Vietnam vet. Re-enlisted during Kuwait war. Have two honorable discharges. Will be voting anti-war.
Ron Paul primary, then Obama in general.
No more Squandered Valor.
Comment by silverback Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 9:39 am
No votes for any of the uncontested. In addition, I only vote for judge where I’ve met the candidates. I am not a big believer in Chicago Bar Association ratings for judges (I was formerly part of that committee and believe politics enters into it far more than the CBA will ever admit).
No vote on 7th Cong. Can’t support Danny Davis.
Kenny Johnson for State Rep.
Deb Shore for Sanitary District. No others.
Munoz for Clerk of the Circuit Court. This one is huge for me. Brown is incompetent. She needs to go.
Theis for Supreme Court.
Pat Sherlock for App.Ct. (Gallagher vacancy).
Gamrath for the Chiola vacancy, although Osran is a heck of a good lawyer. Hopefully Osran will run in the future if he loses this one.
Trowbridge for Cole vacancy.
Comment by Skeeter Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 9:43 am
There aren’t a lot of contested races in my area, but I’ll be voting for Mary Jane Theis for Supreme Court. It’s a toss up between Brown and Munoz for Court Clerk, which really ought to be an appointed position under the Chief Judge. If none of the above was an option in that race, it would win in a landslide.

Thinking of Gorman for Judge
Wonder about Blagoof’s vote?

First time ever voting democrat, for me. Only one I am voting for so far? Boland. This is a pure spite vote ag’in Mikey(the pugilist)Jacobs. Jacobs, in my mind, is the poster boy for everything that is wrong with IL politics. Boland may not be much better, but at least he seems to have an even temperament. I’ll be backing Albrecht in the gen.

In Champaign it seems most of the Republican options are nuts except Gordy Hulten. I am voting for Romney and Rick Winkel for Circuit Clerk. Even though he dropped put, he’ll be on ballot and hopefully he will win so party can slate someone besides the howler that’s running. She is a disaster.
Comment by Somewhat Interesting Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 9:49 am
Thanks for reminding me about Deborah Shore Skeeter. She’s top-notch and deserves re-election.

Romeny for president. Hage in the 42nd for State Rep. Bob Gibson for 18th Circuit Judge. Formento for Forest Preserve. No other contested races.
Comment by John Galt Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 10:04 am
I already voted. I couldn’t bring myself to pull a GOP ballot, not even in jest. There were very few contested races on my ballot besides judges and WRD. I took the CBA ballot in to the booth with me, but I didn’t take all of their suggestions. I voted for Deborah Shore. I did not vote for Dick Mell to be whatever it was he was on the ballot for, not alderman but something else that was a party office, not a public office. I’ve never voted for him to be my alderman either.

I will pull a Dem ballot just to pull one. No contested races on that side. I guess I could pull an R ballot and try to mess with them but dont like politics like that. Besides, they seem to be having enough trouble picking their guy without my interference. By the way I hear Santorum will be in Vandalia on Saturday at the old state capitol. This area will go for him fairly easily I think with or without the visit.
Comment by vandalia Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 10:20 am
Brad Schneider in the 10th was the only race I cared about (and one of the few contested ones on the Lake County Dem ballot). I’d hate to wake up the day after election day and find Obama won, the Dems kept the senate, but the GOP kept the House because the 10th District Dems, oblivious to the centrist-right nature of the district and overconfident of the power of Madigan’s gerrymandering, put up a 25 year old Move-On type to run against stealth tea partier Dold.

Buddy Roemer for President. It is a strategic vote against the so-called main-stream republican candidates.
I did the same thing when Edwin Eisendrath ran for Governor, voted for Eisendrath to get a double whack at our soon to be second imprisoned governor.
Comment by Huh? Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 10:46 am
Romney & his delegates/alt. delegates cause he’s the only GOP candidate who doesn’t frighten me and I want Obama to have to actually have some competition….win or lose, it’ll make him a better president.
Dan Patlak for Board of Review. Even though he’s more conservative than me, he’s an honest guy who’s the victim of a disingenuous smear campaign by the south suburban Gorman crowd that’s more interested in patronage and cutting deals with Dems (not in the interest of bipartisanship but in the in interest of lining their pockets).

President Obama and Sharon May for the Will County Board.
Comment by Trstmay Tuesday, Mar 13, 12 @ 10:58 am
YDD- With regard to undervoting, or roll-off, the research is against the contention that officials notice. Rather, they take advantage of being unopposed and high levels of undervoting.
It is impossible to decipher between a protest undervote and an apathy undervote. Officials see low participation as a signal that the electorate may not care about their race in particular. See Gann Hall (2007) and Wattenberg, McAllister, and Salvanto (2000).
That said, I will be pulling R since there is only one contested primary in my district.
Pres: Santorum
I want a contested convention. 538 projects Romney winning 66% of the models, Santorum at 34%.
Romney is predicted to take between 23-51% of the vote with Santorum at a range of 20-46%.
Gingrich and Paul are effectively out of the race, as the upper bounds of their predicted vote totals will not muster the lowest prediction for taking the state.
However, the ballot order will play a significant role in the race between Romney and Santorum. Santorum is the last candidate listed in our district. He should then see a 1-5% decrease in expected vote share (See Brockington 2003).
35th Senator: Johnson over Syverson. Johnson appears to be more moderate, we’ll see. But Syverson is too conservative and has paid little attention to Sycamore and DeKalb so far.
State’s Attorney: Campbell v. Smith. Both are running on positions of cutting taxes and reducing government. What power does an SA have to do with lowering takes?! The only thing they can do to reduce government is stop prosecuting criminals. Good idea.
County Board 3A: Andersen. Looks like Oncken dropped out but is still on the ballot.
Sycamore ballot measure: No, I simply have not heard enough from either side to make a decision. Things seem good with regards to the way utilities are arranged right now, so I am going to stay with the status quo.

I’m stumped. Normally I pick the Dem ballot, but there are no races–Well there are, but I have no idea who I’d pick of the three unknowns to wind up with 32% of the vote against Peter Roskam in the gerrymandered 6th district.
Likewise in the 25th Senate race–do I pick a Democratic loser retread in Corrine Pierog, or an unknown in Hunter?
I’m thinking of taking a GOP ballot and voting against Oberweis, who I definitely don’t want and then voting for Buddy Roemer for president–I think he’s legitimately a good guy and is the only one who hasn’t hopped aboard the nut job train.
Seriously perplexed.

Write in for Prez (Bradley Manning), but delegates for Obama…only game in town, and there is no Green Party primary ballot this year.
Others– referred to Jan Schakowsky’s endorsements, but JJ, Jr.’s botched attempt to get a Blago nomination led me to Halvorson over JJ, Jr. in the 2nd congressional district.

Out by me, the elections are, for the most part, decided in the GOP primary. So I held my nose and took a GOP ballot.
I voted for Gaffney for State Rep - he’s far and away the best candidate.
I voted for Kurtz for County Board, and no one else (can vote for 4).
I voted for Santorum, only because I want the GOP Presidential Primary to keep going.
I left the rest of the races blank.

==35th Senator: Johnson over Syverson. Johnson appears to be more moderate, we’ll see. But Syverson is too conservative and has paid little attention to Sycamore and DeKalb so far.==
They were both in DeKalb last week. Their positions on issues aren’t very different but I’ve heard Syverson’s advertising is earning points and I wonder if Johnson’s successful co-sponsorship of a bill to allow NIU to sell booze might be a disadvantage if it’s perceived as a threat to local businesses.
==State’s Attorney: Campbell v. Smith. Both are running on positions of cutting taxes and reducing government. What power does an SA have to do with lowering takes?! The only thing they can do to reduce government is stop prosecuting criminals. Good idea.==
These two lately have been sniping away at each other over Smith’s qualifications to be a prosecutor and Campbell’s competence as a manager. Campbell, the incumbent, started an “anti-corruption initiative” last week, an obvious pander to local, vocal good government advocates; but in the 25+ years I’ve lived here, the “C” word has always been taboo for public officials even though DeKalb is different from Chicago only in scale. So it’s kind of refreshing to have someone admit it can happen here.
I am having trouble deciding and may take a nonpartisan ballot anyway. For sure I am voting no on electrical aggregation because of the potential to turn it into another sweet revenue source via some sort of rebate/kickback/”grant”. You know who would end up paying for that and we already have a utility tax.

At one time I thought I would pull a GOP ballot to vote for Ron Paul and a part of me still wants to now pull a GOP ballot to vote for Rick Santorum in the beauty contest and Paul’s delegates in my CD.
But I’ll probably pull a Dem ballot because I don’t want a GOP primary on my voting record so it’s…
7th CD - Jacques Conway over Danny Davis (I will never not be horrified by the Moonie ceremony thing and Jacques seems like a good guy based on his police officer-Methodist minister bio)
5th Senate - I’m undecided. I actually like Anazette Collins despite her troubles and have received calls and mail on her behalf whereas I saw/heard more of Van Pelt-Watkins in her mayoral race than this senate contest. Of course Collins has her scandals, but I have to say the Jesse White endorsement of Van Pelt-Watkins in light of the Collins scandals would have meant a lot more to me before Derrick Smith’s arrest.
