  1. The $10 an hour minimum wage just sounds like a bad (i.e. counter-productive) idea to me. I suspect youngsters (particularly minority teenagers) will see their unemployment rate go even higher.

I think we need to view minimum wage jobs more like “stater jobs” (conceptually like internships) - instead of careers - for people who don’t (yet) have the credentials for better paying jobs. The minimum wage is set soemwhat low to make it worth an employer’s time and effort to take lesser qualified job seekers and teach them to be valuable employees. They then take that foothold and move up to better paying jobs.

If the minimum wage is set too high, it isn’t worth the employer’s time to hire a lot of the people who need those jobs.

  2. - “Children have a hard enough time concentrating, and if you’re gonna be bringing a miniature horse in the classrooms that’s clearly gonna become a disruptive event for the students,” he told the station. -

And a dog would be different how? My gosh, talk about nanny state, you’re really going to oppose letting people with disabilities have a more choices because some kids might get excited over a little horsie? Too funny.

  3. This NATO event in Chicago has become a “come-one come-all” Summer extravaganza, for anyone to protest anything. Nurses, teachers, mortgage holders, students, unemployed, retirees, tax payers, government workers, victims of real and imagined abuse, “occupiers”, and “anarchists”.

Very few protesters seem to even know who NATO is or what they currently do. Others are really protesting the G8 on economic policy issues, but that meeting has been moved to an inaccessible location, so they’ve come to Chicago anyway.

Hopefully everyone will get their messages out, and all will be safe in the end.
