Their defense is pretty good, and they still have Fitzgerald. But Kolb doesn’t strike me as a Super Bowl caliber QB and they lost to the Bills. I don’t see the Cards going all the way this year.

I am not scared of the Giants, but I am scared of the Tigers. That being said, I have learned to NEVER underestimate this team. They simply refuse to die. I would not be a true Cardinal fan if I didn’t say that they are going to win it all baby!!!

These guys had a amazing end last year, and I am inclined to believe that they can pull it off again. St Louis is a great baseball town.

Other than the absence of a killer lefty the bullpen is the equal, if not superior, of the other three still standing. Beltran is hot. Freese woke up from his summer slumber. Kozma’s soul won’t be collected until after the postseason. It could go either way, and I’d give them the second-best chance of winning it after the team they would play in a 1934/1968/2006 World Series rematch. And I don’t favor the Tigers by much.

I think the Cards have an excellent chance. They are on a roll and feel that they are a team of destiny. Fantastic small market sports franchise!

50-50 chance.
With the Yankees down 2-0 and missing Jeter, it is looking like the Tigers will be the opponent. And the Tigers don’t scare me; it took them a long time to pass the injury-plagued White Sox.
This post-Pujols Cardinals team is pitching rich, and good top-to-bottom in hitting.

I think that the Cardinals can repeat as WS Champions.
Sometimes, I long for the past when MLB featured fewer teams and the regular season ended and the top two teams squared off in the WS. Now, the postseason is more like the basketball, football or hockey playoffs. Any team reaching the tournament can run the table regardless of their regular season records.

Not as good as Justin Verlander going all the way with Kate Upton. And seriously, if you had a choice between the two….
Anything can happen in a 5- or 7-game series, as Cards fans know better than most. I’m just glad I don’t gamble anymore.
But how weird was it to see The Freak come out of the bullpen as the long man last night? Three years ago, that kid was the goods.
I hope it’s St. Louis and Detroit again. They’re both great baseball towns, and I always have been treated well and had fun at both parks.
And LaRussa’s gone, so I have no reason not to like the Cards.

It was deja vu all over again the other night-down to their last strike twice (like last year) and I’m thinking no way are the going to do it again-and then they did it again. At least a 75% chance

I give them a good chance for all the reasons mentioned by others above, but mainly because there is no quit in this team. They believe and PLAY as though there is always a chance. Many other clubs with more talent do not have this and it is essential to winning a series.
Had the Flubs had that they would not have fallen apart just because a fan interfered on ONE play when they had their chance.
GO Cards!!!!!!!!

If they came from losing 6 zip to win and be the come back kid like they did last year (coming back twice in one game), they could win again. Tenacious.

Well, let’s see. They have the worst regular season record of any playoff team. They don’t have a true ace pitcher. No one in the lineup really scares you. They are a pretty average team…so they will probably win the NLCS in 6 games and the World Series in a 14 inning game 7 where they come back from down 6 with two outs and nobody on.

Because of their uncanny ability to perform exceptionally well under pressure, the Cards will take it all the way! Hard to compete with their dedication to play hard through the very end…and impossible to compete with their most loyal and supportive fan base.
Oh, and Rich - Red October is a beautiful month. It’s really a shame that you don’t celebrate it.

OK but not good. I think they’ll beat the Giants and that the Tigers will beat the Yankees. And the Tigers are 1) almost guaranteed two wins from Verlander starts 2) better than they were earlier this season (with the additions of Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante).
Then again, the Tigers were better than the Cardinals in 2006, and they completely fell apart. They committed *eight errors in five games,* which led to eight earned runs. In the last two games of the series, the Tigers outscored the Cardinals in terms of *earned* runs. And their defense is terrible again this year….

They will do great until they have to face an AMERICAN League team.If it’s the Tigers who just beat out he White Sox the Cards are done.They have a 40-60 chance of beating The Yanks.
I have to admit the Cardinals are a real suprise of course they play in an inferior league.Just look at the Cubs and Astro’s.

If the Tigers can beat a team that was in first place most of the season, then they will go all the way. Looks like they may be playing the Cardinals

No one in the Cards’ lineup scares you? Carlos Beltran owns about four postseason offensive records. He comes alive in October. What he did to the Cards and Braves in 2004 was brutal, and the pace continues today. Molina will likely finish #2 in NL MVP to Posey. Holliday struggles at times, but when he’s clicking he mashes. Freese proved last year he can be a force in postseason. What more do you want, dude?
Carpenter is a monster big-game pitcher. If not for the Cards’ feast-or-famine offense and several blown saves and holds by the bullpen costing him at least 6 wins this year, Kyle Lohse is in the Cy Young discussion. Only three losses all season.
The 2004 Cardinals finished with 105 wins, the best record in baseball, and 13 games ahead of the Astros. It took them 7 games to win the NLCS and get to the World Series, where they were quickly dispatched. Best record in 2005. Didn’t make it past the Astros in the playoffs that year. Regular season records mean nothing.
As they proved last year, in 2006, and just three days ago, you just have to get in, and the team just does not give up. No question, the Cardinals have an excellent shot at repeating.

Great franchise, the Yanks of the National League. BUT, the tigers are getting ready to knock off the Yanks of the American League, and should win (assuming they both get there). Also, its good baseball karma, balance out their series wins against each other. If the tigers can beat Gibson (Bob, Kirk was a tiger), and Brock, they can beat this crew. If the Yanks come back against them and go to the series, go Cards.

They like the Cardinals in St. Louis. The Yankees, not so much.
