  1. So glad to see Barton back on the job for you Miller. At least someone on this site will be sober tonight.

Comment by Give Me A Break Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 7:48 pm

  2. Derrick Smith…oy indeed. Fioretti’s comment on Tyson’s effort is not surprising to some.

  5. Barton have you seen any numbers on IL Senate 19?

Comment by South of Springfield Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 8:53 pm

  6. Break it down for me someone:

Could Senate Democrats indeed end up with a super-majority?

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 9:00 pm

  7. @YDD, great point.

Comment by amalia Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 9:18 pm

  8. It appears Madigan has several pickups. Is there a chance of a House super majority?

  10. Bart, great job, really fast, and interesting stuff.

Comment by amalia Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 9:36 pm

  11. I’m interested in the supermajority question too. Also, the pension amendment - what counties comprise the 60% counted? Is Cook included?

Comment by Former Merit Comp Slave Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 9:38 pm

  12. I saw numbers from Trib on IL Senate 19 with Hastings having 62% of vote with, I think, over 80 precincts reporting.

Comment by unclesam Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 9:47 pm

  13. CA 49 is up 56-44 but I believe it needs either 50% of total votes cast in the general election OR 60% of those voting on the CA. Hard to tell if it is passing.

Comment by Bluefish Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 9:56 pm

  14. My comment earlier about wondering whether the insane amount of last minute advertising in the Dold-Schneider race meant Dold doing worse than I’d expected. Seems so.

Comment by Angry Chicagoan Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 10:01 pm

  15. Holy crap… losing Skip is HUGE.

Do you guys have numbers on Beiser , Rich?

  19. Lets face it Rich, Cross and Radogno are an embarrassment when it comes to winning, They both deserve stiff challenges to their leadership because they have done absolutely nothing to moves their parties forward in elections

    Comment by E town T Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 10:23 pm

  20. don’t know that one can fault moderate leaders when there is so much crazy in the R party that predominates and the Dems drew the lines here. the national face of the R party became nuts like Akin, Mourdock, King and all the others who think a woman should not have control of her own body. and for all those who said that Dems confused people with issues that “don’t count” like birth control, ask yourselves why the Republican conservatives keep working on that issue first if they don’t care about it. big night for women!

Comment by amalia Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 10:27 pm

  21. Kay appears to have just barely held the 112th, ~350 votes.

Comment by Mittuns Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 10:31 pm

  22. It’s a worse debacle than the GOP feared. What, did Cross lose — ten seats? Dems picked up seats in the heart of the GOP territory in DuPage (Conroy, Cullerton, Willis).

Comment by reformer Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 10:38 pm

  23. I hope Oswego Willy is going to be ok…

    Comment by Anon-amiss Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 10:43 pm

  24. MJM=Redistricting genius. Holy Crap!!!

    Comment by train111 Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 10:43 pm

  25. It appears that not a single legislator who voted for the temporary income tax lost. Kotowski and Nekrtiz both won handily despite their vote for higher taxes. Noland advocates a graduated income tax and he won by 2-to-1.

Comment by reformer Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 10:44 pm

  26. Looks like there will be plenty of Repub lame ducks for veto and January session. Who is ready to deal?

    Comment by E town T Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 10:49 pm

  27. And the winner is…
    Michael J. Madigan

Comment by Deja vue Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 10:55 pm

  28. Madigan will be on the verge of a supermajority. Good job Pat Brady. Don’t let your butt dirty the door.

Comment by Precinct Captain Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 11:00 pm

  29. Even as we speak Dillard, Rutherford and Schock are telling themselves, I will be the next Governor.

Comment by Give Me A Break Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 11:00 pm

  30. Don’t believe anyone anticipated this:

    57th Legislative District
    For State Senator
162 of 162 precincts reporting, 75608 Ballots Cast (120,914 Voters)

    DAVE BARNES (REP) 34,118 46.68%
    JAMES CLAYBORNE (DEM) 38,968 53.32%

Comment by Mittuns Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 11:08 pm

  31. Cross/Radogno = embarrassment, both should step down; it will take a generation for the GOP to climb out of the hole they both help dig.

Comment by Nitro Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 11:09 pm

  32. So did Constitutional Amendment 49 pass or not? Wasn’t sure if it needed 60% or just 50% to pass…

Comment by Anonymous Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 11:26 pm

  33. Nothing posted for several mintues! I hope you aren’t getting tired!

Comment by Getting weary Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 11:34 pm

  34. What the hell just happened in DuPage, Will and Kane?

    WOW

Comment by JimmyCrackCorn Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 11:41 pm

  35. MJM dumping all that money into the Beaubien race was sheer genius. He probably knew she didn’t stand a chance, but it sure dried up alot of GOP money that could have been spent on other races.

  36. You just can’t be the party of no. Just because you don’t get your way on certain things quit being obstructionists and continue to work for the issues you believe in don’t take your ball and bat and go home.

Comment by Eileen left Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 11:47 pm

  37. Kudos to all the boys and girls who gave up their lives over the past few months. The dem staffers deserve these wins, but the repubs staff worked hard too (just not as hard).

Rather than blaming it on the map, Madigan’s mystical ways, or calling the voters stupid, the IL Republican Party might want to wake up.Now maybe, just maybe, Cross and the other obstructionists will wake up and do the job they were sent to Springfield to do. Unfortunately, I doubt that will happen.

Comment by Whatthebleep Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 11:53 pm

  38. 40 Dems in the Senate, 71-71 Dems in the House. Woah.

Comment by Mittuns Wednesday, Nov 7, 12 @ 12:05 am

  39. Is Mike Smiddy going to knock off Morthland?

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, Nov 7, 12 @ 12:08 am

  40. With the maps I dont see the GOP moderating Primaiies will be the biggest threat to the incumbents in both parties. This looks to be the case nationally too.

Comment by western illinois Wednesday, Nov 7, 12 @ 12:25 am

  41. thank you oh wise map maker!

Comment by amalia Wednesday, Nov 7, 12 @ 12:49 am

  42. Amendment needs 60% of those making a selection, or 50% +1 of all voters in the election. It has neither right now.

Comment by chi Wednesday, Nov 7, 12 @ 12:55 am

  43. Uh, is that Annazette Collins behind the Prez at McCormick Place?

Comment by Knee Jerk Wednesday, Nov 7, 12 @ 12:57 am

  44. It’s pro-choice or no choice.

Comment by anon Wednesday, Nov 7, 12 @ 1:05 am

  45. Smiddy won. Another incumbent Republican bites the dust.
If the Dems have 71 seats, that means the House GOP will be a shrunken caucus of just 47 powerless members.

Comment by reformer Wednesday, Nov 7, 12 @ 1:07 am

  46. I was wrong. Congratulations to the Democrats. The redistricting worked better than I believed it would.

    Reminder:

You now own it all in Illinois, good luck!

Comment by Cincinnatus Wednesday, Nov 7, 12 @ 1:07 am

  47. Always a true gentleman, Cincy.

Might be tough to understand today, but the Patriots won.

I’ll explain to everyone when we’re all “older.”

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, Nov 7, 12 @ 1:11 am

  48. I must be dreaming. Cullerton, Conroy and Duckworth have won their races. After 30 years in DuPage the Dems have started winning!!

Comment by DuPage Dave Wednesday, Nov 7, 12 @ 6:22 am

  49. == You just can’t be the party of no. Just because you don’t get your way on certain things quit being obstructionists and continue to work for the issues you believe in don’t take your ball and bat and go home. ===

Ummm, you don’t need us to do anything… We can’t obstruct, nice try though.
