We are looking a little one sided today. Let’s see how the press reports this.

wow. that is quite the list.

No ISRA testimony?

word
Looks like it was pretty well hand picked who was going to talk. After all i see only 3 people allowed to speak on the pro side yet just as many from just one anti gun group. The real question is now that 7th ruled shouldn’t they be focused on the fact that something will be passed instead of saying don’t do it?? Seems like now is the time to bring in officials from other states to talk about problems actually experienced in implementing their laws.
Comment by Mason born Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 11:11 am
Mason, do you have information that the House kept some folks or groups from testifying? I doubt that would be a secret for long.
Comment by wordslinger Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 11:22 am
Word,
No i cannot claim malfeasence but when you look at that list what do you see? Whether malfeasence or simply anti-groups just being on the ball and tying up the slots it is still pretty one sided. I wonder if the Alderman carries but of course he is special?

Those who signed up to testify. I doubt that a group like ISRA would be prevented from testifying, regardless of the number who signed up.

Mason born, Todd is batting cleanup. He’ll do fine.
I talked to Todd last night and he has no problem at all with the panel’s makeup, at least none that he related to me when I spoke with him about it.
Move along.
Comment by Rich Miller Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 11:39 am
This guy is a hypocrite, blames guns and violent criminals, but then opposes honest people should not have the right to defend themselves depending on the whim of some politician.

Word & Rich
Good point i stand corrected. Sometimes my assumptions as to the corruption of IL politicians overrides my thought process.
I guess with the denial of the en bloc from the 7th it would make the hearing a little easier for Todd anyway.

–Rep Drury asks why #cta Doesnt add metal detectors like at an airport #concealedcarry–
LOL, gee, I wonder why, aside from the astronomical cost and that the system would grind to a halt?
I take it Rep. Drury drives to work.

I’m a little disappointed in the 2 or 3 panel members that can’t put their cellphones down to give this important matter their full attention.
Comment by Kevin Highland Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 12:13 pm
I looked over the list of those who will speak. I was not able to identify anyone form local government bodies outside of Chicago and Cook County (did I miss someone?). I wonder why they would not like to address the fact that the proposed bill will outlaw home rule action as to concealed carry. Is not being able to adjust the law to meet local needs in various communities not an issue with cities around the state?
Comment by Property owner Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 12:17 pm
Someone just emailed me and said the 7th will not reconsider their ruling on concealed carry. Have not verified it yet.
Comment by Nuance Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 12:38 pm
Almost none of the discussion so far seems to have been related to CCW. Lot of discussion about other gun control, but little to do with CCW.
Comment by elginkevin Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 12:39 pm
Nuance, LOL. Scroll down. Sheesh. It’s been on the blog for hours now.
Comment by Rich Miller Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 12:43 pm
Thanks for the update, Nuance. Word on the street is that Gov. Romney will give a concession statement soon.

Look at Todd rockin’ the concealed carry bill beard!
Comment by Dirty Red Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 12:55 pm
Todd did well, especially at the beginning of his remarks. He would be well advised to drop the gay marriage analogy though. Just my opinion, but that didn’t help him nor did the tired “south of I-80″ rhetoric.
Comment by 47th Ward Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 1:01 pm
Really, Todd — playing the “south of I-80″ card?
Comment by wordslinger Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 1:06 pm
Saw more commentary on straw purchases than on CCW. If you want to know exactly what your responsibilities as a gun buyer or seller in Illinois is then get a hold of ATF Pub 5300.5.(State Laws and Published Ordinances-Firearms) Only problem is that is the last printed copy. They only send out CDs now. Straw purchases and transfers are definitely covered. I fully believe and statistics will prove that concealed carry deters crime. Should everyone be able to CCW? NO! Convicted felons, convicted of domestic battery, or adjudicated mentally incompetent, then no. Should you as the individual be required to run a background check? NO! Because when an individual gives you a copy of his FOID and drivers license and you make a bill of sale you are under the assumption, by the ISP issuing the FOID that the person can legally posses that firearm. What should happen and doesn’t you commit a crime with a gun, then you go to prison. Oh, that’s right Quinn is busy closing them. So actually the court system has no other choice but to give them probation. What about this guy in Chicago who had 17 prior arrests and some violent on probation. But now because he is 16 he is being tried as an adult. If your 10 and you do a violent crime then Youth facility here you come and when you turn 16 off to the real prison.

Court to Lisa Madigan: No rehearing on concealed-carry guns ruling
A divided federal appeals court today rejected Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s request for a rehearing on the case where the state has been ordered to allow citizens to carry guns in public.

Is there anyone not wanting to jail straw purchasers?? Pretty sure that would get 100% votes to pass. might be kind of nice to see Todd at the signing with Cameila and Val.
Comment by Mason born Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 1:49 pm
Wordslinger, I hate to tell you this, but “South of I-80″ does exist. Down here when a criminal gets shot by an honest citizen defending themselves, it is considered “good riddance” not “gun violence”.
Also, would you consider a delay on implementing any other section of the Bill of Rights to US citizens because it is inconvenient to the local administration? The honest folks in this state have been denied the ability to protect themselves for too long by politicians who want to coddle criminals. I don’t agree with everything Mc Carthy said, but he was right when he said criminals don’t fear Illinois’ Justice system.
Comment by K Collier Friday, Feb 22, 13 @ 1:52 pm
K, my reference was to playing the “south of I-80″ victim card.
I’ve spent a good portion of my life living and working “down here.”

Great to see Jordan Matyas on the list. I’m still trying to figure out what qualifications he has other than marrying into the right family.
