Looks like Cicero is keeping status quo.

My comment in the earlier district post is now redundant. As the liveblog indicates, Kelly is on track for a blowout with 43% of the precincts called.
Shouldn’t Jimmy Carter be overseeing the process in Cicero?

“Nothing to see here, Cicero is on line and back in the Gooove … Over …

With 49% of precincts reporting, Eric Wallace has a five-vote lead over Paul McKinley for the GOP nomination.
Not five percentage points. Five votes.

Wallace maintaining that lead over McKinley through 53% of precincts reporting. 348-343.
My high school senior class presidential election may outdo the GOP primary for overall turnout.

===Shouldn’t Jimmy Carter be overseeing the process in Cicero? ===
“When asked, the former president stated, ‘My passport and I were denied entry to Cicero, and while talking to the Customs Official in Town Hall, all 4 tires were slashed, the windows broken, the hubcaps were taken, and someone wrote in soap on the hood, quote, ‘Carter go Home’ … I took that as a sign.”

===Debbie Halvorson has 67 percent of votes in Kankakee county — but that’s only 325 ballots.===
Percentage seems on a good pace, but the raw ballots stink to try and chase the City ballots …

Down goes Terry Link again. Pretty amazing.
Finished 6th fo 7 Lt. Gov candidates. Now loses a Mayoral race in his district. Time to hang it up.

Halvorson conceded.

And here’s Bloomberg. From the Tribune:
“This is an important victory for common sense leadership on gun violence, a problem that plagues the whole nation. And it’s the latest sign that voters across the country are demanding change from their representatives in Washington — not business as usual. As Congress considers the President’s gun package, voters in Illinois have sent a clear message: we need common sense gun legislation now. Now it’s up to Washington to act,” Bloomberg said in a statement.

Some chutzpah from Bloomberg. Caskey’s the real kingmaker in Illinois.

Has President Preckwinkle been invited to the victory party? I’ve heard they’re serving Humble Pie

Looks like the entire Democratic Citizens of Berwyn endorsed slate won. But man, what a miserable turnout. I mean, I know, the mayor was unopposed, but still…

Wow, are the voters of the 2nd District going to be disappointed when they find out new members have little impact on federal policies in their first or even second term. Lots of big talk out of Bloomberg and others about outcomes of the election but nothing major is going to happen until the mid-term elections are done. Talk about false hope and change…

The effort to convert the special Congressional election into a national referendum on gun control is a bit of a stretch. One would think that the entire district was under the control of the National Rifle Association and its conservative allies. The bulk of the current 2nd Congressional District is comprised of precincts that have been safely Democratic for what? seventy-five to eighty years?

oh, sure, acott brown had almost no impact on congress, except as the symbol that begot the tea party victories that followed. if all that robin does is spur victory for gun control candidates across the country, she will have accomplished more than jessie did. yesterday, we beat the most powerful lobby in the country. I love all the pathetic whining about bloomberg, who has yet to spend what the NRA spends in a single year, nay, a single quarter…

Quick observation: Unofficial results show Halvorson getting about 14.5K votes, ~ 25%. Imagine what this race would have looked liked if Trotter does not make a mistake that forces his exit, Harris runs a campaign and stays in and Hutchinson remains viable and actually finishes the race, and Beale still gets his 10% and the others gobble up their current vote share. I know that is all hypothetical and Kelly may still win, but a very real possibility that Halvorson wins that race if she keeps her 25%.
