· “Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn broke ranks Tuesday and urged Gov. Rod Blagojevich to put some heat on a state contractor that allegedly refuses to negotiate with striking employees at Sheridan Correctional Center.”

· Editorial: Remember when Gov. Rod Blagojevich took office and promised to keep politics out of state hiring? The hiring of Brian Keen, U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello’s son-in-law, is compelling evidence that Blagojevich never meant it.

· For the presecution’s sake, I hope there are no Sox fans on that jury. “Training Mayor Daley’s patronage chief in how to avoid political considerations in city hiring is about as useful as giving sensitivity training to Ozzie Guillen, a federal prosecutor argued Tuesday during closing arguments.”

· Governor backs bid for Olympics

· Praise plentiful, critics silent on Niles mayor

· New Medicaid law is called a threat

· I love the Bottle Rockets, and so, apparently does the Austin Mayor

  1. I wish Quinn would do this more often. He is a better public servant that Blago, but I have a feeling is all too often deferential to his running mate to keep the peace. Believe it or not, I miss the old Pat.

  2. Re: the medicaid law “threat”: Anecdotal evidence of someone who may suffer under a law, no matter how unfortunate, should not be a reason to abandon it. As a medical provider myself and husband of a family practice physician near Beardstown, it’s impossible to deny the deleterious effects that illegal immigration has on medical care in this area. In my wife’s previous clinic, her medicaid load approached 60% of her total patients, and of these, probably 30-40% had Public Aid cards under a different name or illegally obtained in some other way. To deny that this fraud does not significantly hurt legitimate medicaid recipients, health care providers, taxpayers, and the availability of quality health care for everyone, is asinine. This new law, and other reforms, are sorely needed.

  3. And Patrick Quinn had the gall to tell the Governor’s office what it should do. I appologize to Pat Quinn for thinking that he has an influence over the Governor or at least an input as the Lt. Governor. But from the Governor’s offices’ response to Pat Quinn’s notion (which seems politically motivated in favor of AFSCME Union), it appears they are telling him to mind his business.

Prior to reading the editorial, my comment was that the Lt. Governor should speak out against other important allegations against the Blagojevich adminstration.

But it is apparent that Lt. Governor Patrick Quinn “get’s no love” and “has no clout” in the Office of the Governor or the response from the Gov’s office would have been we’ll take it under consideration.

    WOW!!!!!

  4. Regarding Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn breaking ranks to insist Gov. Blagojevich address the issues at Sheridan Correctional Center and the strike. Mr. Quinn should look at the facts I presented to his offices, approximately 37 pages, about the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC), Illinois’ Central Management Services (CMS)and AFSCME’s unfair labor practices in this strike. IDOC and CMS have targeted and locked out Gateway employees. IDOC and CMS is denying Gateway employees who want to go to work and cross the picket lines access to their employment at Sheridan. Why doesn’t Mr. Quinn address this issue? Where are you Mr. Quinn? Go to my website at http://clickforjusticeandequality.blogspot.com/ or C.L.I.C.K. for Justice and Equality for more details about the tyranny and oppression being carried out by IDOC and CMS. Get on this Mr. Quinn!!! Break ranks with the union Mr.Quinn.
