A desperate subscriber, perhaps?

* News of the Weird from the Springfield paper

A fax machine was among the items stolen from a home in the 1700 block of South Douglas Avenue between Monday and Thursday.

Dude, you can get an e-mailed subscription now. You don’t need a fax machine. So there’s no need to bust into anybody’s house.

Just sayin…

  9. I remember way back when when a candidate was being rumored as, and pressured into, resigning. I finally got fed up with the whole thing and told someone that I’d heard the supporters in his office replaced the fax machine with a paper shredder just in case he DID decide to walk over there to fax his resignation.

Maybe someone’s trying to resign, but this team botched it up, or not, by going to extreme measures to find and install an actual fax–instead of a shredder labeled “fax machine.”

  11. I read over the weekend that 700,000 Fax machines were sold in America in the last 2 years (2011 & 2012). People must be using then for something. Perhaps papers that must be signed?? Haven’t seen a PC or phone app for that yet.

Comment by Capitol View Monday, Jun 3, 13 @ 1:35 pm

  16. Interesting comments from a lot of(apparently) high tech people; you don’t know how silly you sound. I am on two smaller government agencies; we fax stuff all of the time; a lot of it is businesses asking for tax exemption letters. A lot of these come as written correspondence, asking us to mail or fax a copy, to a DEDICATED fax line; generally, there isn’t even an email address given. Further, my son is a self-employed contractor-he is always faxing contracts, bids, etc. to customers. In the business world, the fax machine is very much alive and well…

  17. A few months ago, I heard a story about businesses in Japan won’t give up their fax machines for email.

  18. I just want to be clear, I was in Oswego during the heist, on my Tandy 2000 Computer with casette tapes, listening to an 8-Track player, while playing “Pong” on a 12″ black and whit monitor, when all this occured.

I think my Pager went off too….
