Congrats @brucerauner. I think you will make a great governor.
— Rev. James T. Meeks (@revjamesmeeks) June 5, 2013
Like Rauner, Meeks has been a longtime enemy of the teachers’ unions, so it’s a somewhat logical match. I doubt it’ll translate into many votes, however.
Anyway, discuss.

WHAT?!
Does Meeks remember his stunt in New Trier in 2009?
Does he realize that at the EXACT SAME TIME he was bringing all those Chicago kids to Winnetka to push for Chicago public school kids to get the same opportunities as Winnetka kids, that Winnetka resident Bruce Rauner had used his clout to deprive those Chicago kids that Meeks claimed to care about from an opportunity at the top Chicago Public School in the city?

Hey D.B. Gumby:
You mean Mike Madigan?
Comment by Just sayin' Wednesday, Jun 5, 13 @ 1:46 pm
HisGirlFriday nails it.
Meeks kids’ can’t get the opportunities the kids at New Trier have, but Rauner can blow off New Trier and sneak his kid into a Chicago magnet school.
I’m guessing there’s something more to this Meeks’ move than just good government.

Meeks is a social conservative and fiscal liberal, though he does hate public schools and teachers unions.
Rauner is a social moderate (maybe even liberal?) and fiscal conservative.
The two might have less in common than Bill Brady and Pat Quinn.

At first I thought it was Meeks supporting Dillard in response to his traditional family comment. That makes sense. This? Follow the money…

The selection of running mates by candidates on both sides is going to be one of the more interesting dances of the primaries. The possible combinations are all fraught with danger and opportunity.
Petition passing time is not that far off.

Can we get a group shot of Rauner, Meeks and Jack Roeser?

Rauner sounded pretty good today on the John Kass show.

Rauner has found is Lite gov. Anti gay marriage, anti union. The ultra conservative base will love it, as if he were Alan Keys!
Comment by In the know Wednesday, Jun 5, 13 @ 2:35 pm
Yes, justbabs. The lite gov candidates run in tandem with the gov candidates now.

Agreed, more “there” there, and who knows - OneMan -, you may have called this Ticket early!
I agree something is afoot very specifically because of what - hisgirlfriday - put so very well.
Make no mistake;
Rauner’s Daughter, the “clouting” of a denied Winnetka resident/student, denying …
Denying.
…denying a student from the city of Chicago who did NOT have New Trier as an option, will come back and be something Rauner will have to take on.
At this point, after ALL these days passing, hard to feel sympathetic to a near Billionaire living in Winnetka, buying a Condo in Chicago to help his Daughter, who was already DENIED entry to the best school in the State, and Rauner calling Duncan to “clout” his newly residing Chicago resident Daughter.
Rev. Meeks would be all over this, unless something is afoot, I mean, after all, were the buses to New Trier a stunt, or was it suppose to mean something?

“The ultra conservative base will love it, as if he were Alan Keys!”
@InTheKnow: I am guessing the ultra conservative base in this state would LOVE if Rauner picked a lite gov candidate who opposed ssm, unions AND income tax increases.
If this pick is made, it is NOT for the benefit of the ultra conservative base of this GOP, regardless of James Meeks and Alan Keyes sharing the same skin pigmentation.
Comment by hisgirlfriday Wednesday, Jun 5, 13 @ 3:03 pm
yup that will play well with moderates and “soccer moms” in the burbs of to a great start GOP Dillard foot in thy mouth and Rauner/ Meeks ticket !!! wheeeeeee doggies !!

On July 29, 2006 Sen. Meeks led a protest march over Mayor Daley’s capital program for public schools. Meeks and his supporters stood in front of Payton H.S. (i.e. Rauner’s daughter’s clout school)with a banner that read “End apartheid in Chicago schools.”

When the biggest objection that commenters here have about a candidate is his childs choice of high school, I think we have the cleanest candidate in Illinois History.

This is the same James Meeks who didn’t bother to show up for his last session as a state senator and instead stayed home in Chicago and tweeted pious platitudes. Anyone need any more evidence that he’s lost his moral compass (at least where politics is concerned)?

I don’t know who I am going to support for Governor yet and it’s unclear right now who the odds on favorite will be but I’ll tell you one thing, Rauner won’t be elected Governor. Personally, I’d go with Lisa Madigan as the favorite. I know her father isn’t very popular statewide but that doesn’t necessarily mean that a majority of voters, unfairly in my judgment, will hold her accountable for the actions of her father.
Comment by Dude Abides Wednesday, Jun 5, 13 @ 8:53 pm
Either Rauner has taken up machining go-cart parts or Meeks knows something I don’t.
