* After Gov. Quinn’s repudiation yesterday over concealed carry, this Blackberry Smoke tune seems appropriate. I’ve been listening to it all morning while writing the Capitol Fax. Check it out…
Well my fall from grace was a sight to see
Good turned to bad and bad turned to misery
I found out what it is and what it’s not
And all I ask for sure ain’t what I gotWell I’ve been rained on, rode hard and put up wet
Danced with the Devil ’til I’m in debt
Took all I got and there ain’t much left of me
I’ve been knocked down, drug out and left for dead
Barely held together by a few old threads
And I’m still here, there ain’t much left to see, no
Well I’m still holding on and there ain’t much left of meThought that I hit bottom but I ain’t there yet
‘Cause you’d be surprised of how low a man can get
I watched stolen dreams slip through my hands
And now I’m getting out of here still while I still canWell I’ve been rained on, rode hard and put up wet
Danced with the devil ’til I’m in debt
Took all I got and there ain’t much left of me
I’ve been knocked down, drug out and left for dead
Barely held together by a few old threads
And I’m still here, there ain’t much left to see,no
Well I’m still holding on and there ain’t much left of me
That’s rightWell my fall from grace was a sight to see
Nobody even cared what became of me
Do I have to get down on my knees
And ask the Lord, Lord have mercy on meWell I’ve been rained on, rode hard and put up wet
Danced with the Devil ’til I’m in debt
Took all I got and there ain’t much left of me
I’ve been knocked down, drug out and left for dead
Barely held together by a few old threads
And I’m still here, there ain’t much left to see, no
Well I’m still holding on and there ain’t much left of me

For some reason I am feeling the urge to do new lyrics to “It Sucks To Be Me” from Avenue Q for the Governor…

I miss Sons, but I can’t help from thinking Leela every time I see Katie Segal.

This seems appropriate in some way–though I haven’t quite figured out exactly how. Yet.

I meant to get back here all day, but kept getting sidetracked, or whatever …
I enjoy music very much, but that doesn’t mean I KNOW music, heck, I know I like songs, or albums or a group, but to tie it all together and say I can speak “to music” would be embarrassing wrong.
I do enjoy songs and music most when in context, be that from the artist or when someone like Rich or anyone who knows music can catalog a song and say “this made me think of that” and have it really tell the story at hand better than reading or telling that story with plain words.
When Friday comes around and Rich “plays us out”, that too is something enjoyable because, for me at least, I get exposed to some really cool stuff I normally would not have an opportunity to hear or know.
I hope this is something that continues, because Rich’s vast musical taste and knowledge adds to the “moment”, and something as simple as this post, just gave an extra spin, that was really cool.
I wish I would have gotten back much earlier, but I didn’t want this post to go without commenting as I did. Thanks for the post and the music, Rich.
