* The annual Illinois State Fair “celebrity” horse race has been moved to Tuesday this year.
The race, featuring myself and flacks from the legislative caucuses and the governor’s office will be held after tomorrow’s third official race. So, figure somewhere around one o’clock.
* It’s a whole lot of fun. The horses come so close to each other during the race that it can be a little scary at times, and they kick up a lot of mud/dirt, but I love it. The animals are so beautiful and powerful and it’s such a special treat to watch them so close up.
Here’s some video I took last year…
* Also, I’m thinking Wednesday afternoon at a beer tent for our caption contest winners. They should all contact me soon. Friday’s winner was Oswego Willy.

Remind me again why the taxpayers of this state have to help pay for this annual extravaganza that 90% of us will never attend? I know its important to a lot of the political insiders and payrollers who hang out here, but I mean to the average citizen. Just saying.

Geez, dude, get down with your culture!
More than 90% of people will never visit the Statue of Liberty — maybe we should sell it for scrap.
More than 90% will never go to Yellowstone — maybe we should sell it to WalMart.
Go, already — you’ll have a blast.

Good luck and a safe ride to all! Watching the Video of 2012’s Event, by the way, was also quite an adventurous and fun “trip,” too–just to get a real feel for what it must be like for those of us who won’t or can’t be there…thanks for taping it! (Maybe we’ll also soon get an up-front peek into THIS year’s race)…?

How about a state subsidy for folks to visit Six Flags Great America. Oh, that’s right we are broke.

They’re called roads, on-ramps, off-ramps, etc., and they cost a lot more than the fair.
Lighten up, dude. A $5.5 million operating budget and 900,000 people will show up to spend money and have fun. Farmers can show off their best. I don’t see the state fair mentioned in any downgrade reports.
It’s been going on for more than 150 years, missing just a few years in WWII and the Columbian Exposition. I think we’ll muddle through somehow with another one.
