Which is Grogan? Is this the guy who destroyed child support a few years back or was that the Clerk?

If elected State Treasurer my friend Joe here says that I should try to defund Obamacare and eliminate the US Department of Education. Because they are both menaces to our freedom and our liberties as sovereign citizens.

If true, I am not in the slightest surprised…

“I’m Bob Grogan, and I hope to build a winning campaign like my friend, Joe here. First, I’ll start out as a “liberal” Republican, just as Joe did when he first ran for the Illinois legislature. I’ll be for gay rights and abortion on demand. Then, later, I’ll change my name in a cheap attempt to garner “name recognition”. Then, I’ll hold my fingers to the wind, and completely reverse course ideologically and be a little to the right of Stalin. In the meantime, I’ll preach family values, but run up a slew of bad debts and unpaid child support. Finally, for the coup de grace, I’ll be thoughtful and carefully spoken on the campaign trail while I attempt to build winning coalitions that attract centrist voters, especially women in the suburbs. All in all, I’m pretty sure Joe has me on the right track for victory statewide.”

In my lifetime, DuPage County has a extremely poor history of catapulting candidates into State executive offices.
I remember Jim Ryan (A.G.) but cannot think of who was the last DuPager elected to hold a constitutional office in our State before him…anyone?

I really empathize with the writer of the press release — I know the feeling and it’s terrible.
I once worked on an annual report for a big bank. Tons of text and charts, we wrote and proofed for weeks.
After it was published, we discovered one typo. Actually, the chairman of the bank discovered the typo. We misspelled his name.
Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide……

Grogan’s a nice guy, a smart guy and a decent guy. He’s got it tough enough with Two Putt jumping in to avoid a conflict somewhere else. I’m willing to bet there were other pictures on his website besides this one. I enjoy caption contests as much as the next guy, but this one strikes me as a little off. Just my opinion.
Comment by A guy... Tuesday, Aug 27, 13 @ 1:28 pm
A Guy, Grogan is a nice guy and a pretty smart guy too….that is why I am so confused about what he is doing here. When you run statewide, you have to have your ducks in a row. You need to know where your money is coming from, have support lined up and have a plan to win. I never thought of adding….be able to spell your own name…but I will throw that in too.
I do not see that for Bob right now, maybe it will come in time but it seems more likely that he will run a very lackluster campaign and his career will be in tatters as a result.
Comment by Raising Kane Tuesday, Aug 27, 13 @ 2:10 pm
Grogan proves once again you can look smart without a lot of hair or teeth.
Comment by 3rd Generation Chicago Native Tuesday, Aug 27, 13 @ 3:08 pm
There is indeed a protocol to running Statewide, in both parties, for any of the offices, to be … Credible and to be true to the process to win;
You have to have some sort of Name ID or serious cash to get it.
You need serious cash.
You need support that you can count on for VOTES, not just the vote of the person giving … support. You need to have a constituency you can point to to be successful in finding more votes, to raise money, and build a base of operations.
You need to understand the Party Protocol too.
Now, here is where it gets tricky;
“Outsiders”, they never figure into this mix, but here is where Grogan is so far off the reservation, Grogan will never be back, or it will take a very long time to find his place back where even he (Grogan) was. I am not talking about the “I’m next” bit, I am talking about, “Hey, you claim to be a ‘Party Guy’ and support the state party and all that entails, so why go about and run for something you are not ready for via the Protocol, and then try to upend another candidate who has the Protocol in line ready to go …so why cause yourself problems?”
Grogan is not ready by the Protocol checklist, and by running as Grogan is, Grogan will ruin all the good will he has harvested …in DuPage now … and statewide for later … by this Dopey idea.
Run, I guess, but at your own peril.

I have got to find me one of them Grogan, CPA Yard Signs …
The over/under on attendees was 9, so if you had the “under” make sure you collect your winnnings, but have your ticket on hand.
First, it was “Jason, the Candidate”, now “Jason the Operative” …
Well, I am sure no more mistakes will be made for me to comment on, right?

Comment by Raising Kane Tuesday, Aug 27, 13 @ 4:49 pm
Just me, but OW is your location obscuring your usually clear view?
Grogan can be Auditor in DuPage County until the sun cools and has ran around the state like the energizer bunny. Cross worked himself out of a leadership position, strategized himself out of an elected office, and tactically hardened Grogans resolve to run when he was supposed to cave to superior firepower. Oh, and Cross has how many appearances? Anywhere?
One can only hope Cross runs out of ammo soon, his poor feet are in tatters. So far I’m impressed more by the guy who looks like he wants it.

With respect,
I don’t mind defending my postions, and I appreciate your tooughts as well…
To your post,
I understand your position on “Two-Putt”, and anyone with a “search engine” knows my feeling as well. That being said, to run… to run and win… statewide … you need the money, the aparatus, the networking, and the Name ID necessary to be viable.
These are not my rules, these are the rules of running a winning successfully.
If you don’t think “Two-Putt” can turn off the money spout to Grogan, even as the former Irrelevent Leader you may be kidding yourself. Look at the monies Cross has today, look at the monies Grogan has today, and honestly ask, “will Grogan have the monies necessary to catch up and pass Cross to define Cross as all the ‘bad’ needed to win this nomination?” Where is that cash going to come from? Big question.
If you don’t think Cross is going to use all the contacts he has made “running” winning and in many cases, losing House elections to dry up voter bases that Grogan my try to tap into, you may be kidding yourself.
Being a down ballot candidate statewide, versus being a down ballot candidate in ONE county is huge on top of huge. The base of operation for Cross is statewide already. Grogan, whjo may be a spitfire and may be everywhere, can’t say truthfully, that his tentacles ae as far-reaching as Cross’ are today, or even will match Cross’ come March 2014.
Finally, I railed, rail, and seem to be railing on Cross’ Leadership in Senior Staff constantly. Not the Field Ops, the Senior Campaign brain trust. Well, Cross’ Crew is going to be better than Jason Plummer and whoever Jason can get to listne to his tantrums. You need quality talent, and Cross will make the calls, and Cross’ staff will make the calls to dry up talent to Grogan too. They will, and the talent will not go to Grogan.
So, as I look at this race, all I see is Grogan throwing away a promising career for a shrot term ego boost destined to ruin any upweard movement, and sending Grogan’s career to a junk heap pile, led by the hubris of the ego stroking, maybe even by Plummer himself.
Cross may not beat Sen. Frerichs. Cross may lose big-time. I don’t know.
Grogan, if he loses in the Primary, there may be no “tomorrow”, because everyone who told him this race was folly, are not going to take the time to listen to Don Quixote, especially when Don Quixote was told, his quest was folly.
Sometimes I am a realist. As a realist, Grog’r'an … needed to walk away to survive. Running sealed Grog’r'an’s fate, “Grogan” just doesn’t know it yet.
