Today’s quote

Posted in:

* Jim Edgar asked an AP reporter a couple of questions about his story on GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner

For a candidate seeking support, [Rauner] comes on strong and can sometimes give offense.

“Have you met him? Did you get to talk?” former Republican Gov. Jim Edgar asked sardonically. Edgar has — and didn’t.

Heh.

Don’t you have horse racing interests to shill for Jim?

  2. Another politician told me that Rauner conveys “conviction”; namely, the conviction that he is the smartest person in any room. That may wear on the campaign trail, too.

  3. Diane Ravitch had a must-read the other day on the robber barons who want to steal your tax dollars in the name of “school reform.”

Do you know how much money there is in K-12 schools? Farmer Bruce and the hedgies do.

  4. Is “Tom” a female?
Gotta laugh every time someone writes about CousinBrucey without mentioning how much he has hustled from public pension funds for his schemes.
Clearly his wealth is built on the backs of government workers and teachers….then he uses the $$$$ to pound them on the road to Gov’s office.
Then you get to CousinBrucey + Rahm +Ed Rendell+ gay marriage referendum and you know he is not ready for prime time

  5. Edgar again?

He turns up criticizing Republicans more frequently than Democrats. Not like Quinn and company have any problems he may wish to opine upon.

  6. Regarding “School reform” Diane Ravitch’s new book is highly recommended. It will be released tomorrow and preliminary reviews indicate the book is spot on.

  7. We think its fun when the Payton Prep Clouter keeps hammering away at schools, and then the charter schools, and the teachers’ union, and Chicago …

Wonder if Payton Prep Clouter used that arguement when he called Arne “Ar” Duncan, Rahm Emauel’s buddy and Rich Daley appointee?

Well, when you are “advocating” over Chicago kids who were NOT denied, why not “advocate” against Chicago Public School teachers, like the ones who taught PPC’s DENIED New Trier Daughter…

Yeah, that works. Doesn’t …stink … not at all.

  10. Jim’s just playing, not politics.

Probably an accurate impression of Rauner’s personality.

So what? Kasich, Scott, and Christie come to mind as similar.

  11. “Education Reform” = Patronage for the rich and connected. Tax dollars diverted into a honeypot of charter school boards, naming rights, consulting deals, supplier contracts, construction, bond offerings, and a subservient army of at-will teachers. All potentially mobilized to lobby for more resources, and all without the oversight on hiring and contracts that public bodies face.

And Rauner is the capo di tutto padroni.

  12. “Farmer Bruce”

Or Red State Rauner, as I like to call him. Let’s see him run on weakening unions now that income inequality has set a record. Let’s see whether he will try to scare us into accepting jobs by saying they won’t come unless those pesky unions have less power.
