* Sun-Times…
Mayor Rahm Emanuel is trying to help his friend Bruce Rauner win the crowded Republican primary for governor by endorsing incumbent Democrat Pat Quinn, Republican gubernatorial candidate Kirk Dillard charged Thursday.
Dillard offered that Machiavellian theory, one day after Emanuel endorsed Quinn for re-election, in spite of his rocky relationship with the governor and his close friendship with Rauner, the millionaire venture capitalist challenging Dillard for the GOP nomination.
“Rahm is very smart. He knows he helps Rauner in a Republican primary by strongly endorsing Quinn,” Dillard said Thursday.
As a loyal Democrat, Dillard said Emanuel is always going to pay lip service to the Democratic nominee.
But, he said, “I suspect he’s really rooting for Bruce Rauner. . . . Bruce Rauner is the man who made Rahm Emanuel rich right after he left the Clinton administration. Chicago Magazine just had a story with pictures of the two vacationing together. He’s a member of Rahm Emanuel’s inner circle. . . . That cozy relationship is problematic governmentally. It’s too close for comfort.”
I think that photo was of the two hugging each other at a Chicago event, but whatever.

“More like this Please” …
Less the Tin Foil hat, just link Payton Prep Clouter to Rich Daley, to Rahm Emanuel … do not say the word “Democrat”, remind everyone of Arne Duncan, Denied New Trier Daughter, through Rich Daley denied a child a real chance, and Rauner bought a Condo to keep up all the appearances…
“More like this Please …”
Frame it, sell it, remind it, and define it, for PPC Rauner and define it especially in regards to yourself.
Well done.

Apparently Kirk’s plan is to get the media to shill his message for him since he can’t raise enough money to do it himself. Ask Forrest Claypool how that worked out…

Oh Fran, your misplaced modifier just called Dillard a loyal Democrat.
Did the Sun-Times can the copy desk along with the photogs?
Comment by hisgirlfriday Thursday, Oct 24, 13 @ 2:49 pm
What kind of cozy relationship did Dillard have with Obama? Close enough to cross party lines and cut a commercial in a Democratic primary for his buddy. Give me a break. Dillard is so desperate he will say and do anything. Just ask Jon Zahm.

Last tip;
to all speaking for you, Kirk, and all your surrogates, including Jil Tracy.
No. RINO. None.
Do not say “RINO”, spell “RINO”, refer to Rhinos at the Brookfield Zoo as “elephants with a horn”!
Do not damage the work being done by making it about “RINO” and allowing PPC and “Slip and Sue” to pivot off it, calling it “Business as usual and name calling”
No RINO.
Again, well done, hope my tips are helping you, along with Brady and Rutherford, if they can understand how this can help…
Good on Dillard/Tracy - stay away from the term “RINO”!
Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 24, 13 @ 2:50 pm
So is Kirk going to blame his defeat on Rahm/Rauner? I would think most people are turned off by his pandering to the extreme right wing of his own party.
Comment by Chavez-respecting Obamist Thursday, Oct 24, 13 @ 2:56 pm
It’s campaign time. D’Lard has to get his shots in when he can. He doesn’t have the money to do it up big with paid media.
Comment by Norseman Thursday, Oct 24, 13 @ 2:58 pm
BTW, Kirk missed an opportunity to point out Rahms UNO-connected personally selected Chicago Plan Commission chair just last week gave the go ahead for more tax dollars to be funneled into the charter school network (Noble) of which Bruce Rauner is a board member, even when their latest high school is right across the street from an existing high school that had its funding cut this year.

- Chavez-respecting Obamist -,
“Emanuel” and “Daley” poll incredibly poor in the ILGOP Primary this cycle, with a vast …vast majority very negative about any GOP candidate that is close to either “name”.
Link it, sell it, define it, and make it stick to PPC, and you have a negative that will have legs.
Not a “Right Wing” thing, not a Moderate thing, its a ILGOP thing right now, and is polling harsh for anyone close to the names “Emanuel” or “Daley”.
The numbers are with the tactic, but can Dillard, or a Rutherford and a Brady make it work?
Gotta ride it till it sticks, without making it a Tin Foil Hat fiasco, wrapped in a “RINO” skin.

How does Obama poll in the ILGOP primary?

I don’t care. I am not with Dillard, or Brady or Rutherford for that matter.
I know what is going to make Payton Prep Clouter Bruce Rauner have a tough time winning.
I knock around the other three when they deserve it. Hit the “search” key. Rauner’s soft spot is “Daley”, “Emanuel”, and “Clouting”.

HGF speaks the truth. Anyone check on the Noble contracts network?
Like UNO, I’m sure they’re all outsiders who care about nothing but the children when it comes to spending taxpayer dollars.

Egads. Who was Rahm supposed to endorse? Sheesh. There’s only one guy in the race in his party. How would the average guy on the street somehow interpret a Democratic Mayor endorsing a Democratic Governor helpful to any one of 4 Republicans? Machiavellian Conspiracy is right. Call Alcoa and ask them to double the production of tin foil. Probably only have to make the hats in one size though.

Rutherford is the only one playing this right. Dillard et al seem obsessed with attacking Rauner because Democrats are willing to support him. That seems like a bizarre strategy in a dark blue state.
Attack him for being an out of touch billionaire who games the system. Not for having support from Democrats.

“It just seems like bad politics for a guy who made an ad for a Democrat to complain about another guy having ties to a Democrat.”
The only bad politics is the politics that makes you lose.
Comment by Timmeh Thursday, Oct 24, 13 @ 3:33 pm
This is good. Dillard should keep it up by trying to define Rauner prior to the paid media phase — it benefits all other candidates.
That said, Dillard is so non-resourced that it is hard to see how Dillard moves forward once the contesting commericals begin to fly.
How does Dillard reconstitute a sellable image? He’s the liberal President’s friend who speaks at the anti-gay rally. What is his brand now?
Comment by chad Thursday, Oct 24, 13 @ 3:35 pm
Johnny Q. - This is a Republican Primary. Dillard and the others have to ensure that they look better to Republican voters than their opponents or else they lose. If he wins, Dillard can then worry about looking good to Democrat voters.

That spin works if you fell off the turnip truck.
Chicago mayors, with very few exceptions, are A-OK with a GOP governor. Because then they’re the biggest Democrat in the state. It goes back decades.
Ask Neil Hartigan or Glenn Poshard how Richard M. went all out for them. Or those who worked for Dawn Netsch. Or Blago or Quinn, for that matter.

“Look, If Payton Prep Clouter Bruce Rauner wants to give tens of thousands of dollars to Rich Daley and Rahm Emaunel or Democrats, that is A-OK …If PPC makes one commerical…”
lol
Bruce Rauner gave monies to finance Rich Daley and Rahm Emanuel campaigns.
What, if you give ove $90K to Daley and Rahm you’re fine?
Um, no … according to polling out there

So Emanuel “endorses” the only Democrat in the governor’s race during an editorial board meeting at Crain’s, and that’s somehow proof of a conspiracy? I’m a lot more curious about any relationship there may be between Rauner’s interest in school “reform” and what I’m reading in the comments here about Emanuel, the Chicago Plan Commission and Noble Network Charter Schools. If it points to some cozy little relationships behind the scenes there, it might explain some of Rauner’s teacher-bashing.
Comment by olddog Thursday, Oct 24, 13 @ 4:20 pm

No mystery there. It’s been out in the open for a while.
I encourage everyone to read Diane Ravitch’s new book. The hedgies, the private equity guys and their pals in office are in it for the taxpayer money and contracts. K-12 is Big Money.

Man, politics is politics, Sen. Dillard. Rahm is backing the now-unopposed, sitting Governor from his Party. To do otherwise would be practically unthinkable–as well as to suggest that just because he’s buds with BR, that he’ll ACtually be covertly working actively behind the scenes to somehow round-up million$ in donations for Brucie and leverage thousands of votes for him to boot–Dillard’s got to be jokin’, right?
Otherwise, there sure is some MAjor Paranoia goin’ on here with ‘ol Kirk…!

AA, thanks, but whoof. C’mon!
Miss that Midwestern Main Street GOP? How are those boys from Dixie doing? And the horse they rode in on?
What are we going to do? None of them have s-for-brains on anything financial.
I can’t tolerate Rauner. He’s an insult to anyone with brains. Cynical and phony beyond belief.
Dillard is all in on the nasty crazy. His choice. Did he just get bad advice and not care, or is he a misanthrope? What say you, Cincy? Either way, bad news.
I respect Bill Brady. Anyone who can pull a fourth at 185 in IHSA wresting deserves our respect. That ain’t easy, believe me. He’s a businessman who has hung touch after the Masters of the Universe sold us all down the river. But I don’t think he’s the goods.
For what’s it’s worth, right now, I’m going to pull a GOP ballot to vote for Rutherford. I’m Old School/Farm Boy/Main Street Ilinois. He’s as close as I can see in the GOP to a Gerald Ford/Bod Dole Republican And I dug those guys.
I[ll probably vote for Quinn against him, but show me Mr. Rutherford. Smack down the whack jobs and haters who are polluting the GOP, and I’m in your wheelhouse.
Or, I’ll write in JBT. I’m ashamed that I didn’t vote for her when I could.
Whitney? What was I thinking?
