The bill is expected to move through a pension conference committee Tuesday morning before heading to votes in the House and Senate on the same day. That time frame will smack of a rush job if the legislative language isn’t released in time for a full airing. Let’s see the bill.
This editorial followed a previous one entitled “Air the pension reform bill,” which made the same argument.
* Anyway I received the “final” version of the 327-page bill at 12:24 this afternoon.
Less than fours hours later…
We @Trib_ed_board say vote YES on pension bill tomorrow. Editorial posted online shortly.

How exciting, the Trib decides to be in favor of the compromise Bill.
Does that tweet Kristen McQueary had telling Rich he was wrong … how do I read that now in the context of favoring the Bill now, and not earlier?
Reading the Posts rich had over the weekend and the “history” of the Trib specifically made me chuckle.
I am sure John Kass, 2014 is going to be beside himself, while the 1998 or so “John Kass” might just have agreed, but got a few shots in at the Combine to seem edgy.

I, for one, look forward to the Trib’s endorsement of Rauner despite the fact that he came out against their number one priority and the topic over which they have spilled more ink than any other over the last two years. Should be a treat for any cognitive dissonance fan.

Perhaps if the Trib Ed Board had an ounce of consistency and a modicum of impartiality someone would actually read or care what they say.

You see the glass half empty, I see it 80 percent full.
Tribune is supporting the bill. In the end, that is all that really matters.
Did they read the entire 327 page bill? Probably not. Did they talk to two dozen people over the weekend who were “intimately familiar” with the bill over the weekend and today to find out for sure what is in it? Probably.
In the end, they decided not to make the same mistake as Rauner to try to kill the strongest POSSIBLE bill.
And with all due respect to the Tribune’s critics, their support combined with the endorsement of the business groups provides vital protection for both Republicans and suburban Democrats from the Rauners of the world who would argue the bill doesnt go far enough. And by “far enough”, Rauner means through the looking glass to a fantastical world where defined benefit public pensions are abolished with a simple “off with their heads” from the Knave of (car)hearts.

Boy, she really has SOME REAL leftover bitter pill with Pat Quinn’s name on it that must’ve gone down at some point to so openly oppose him on THIS matter–of ALL matters–at this POINT in time! It’s like the Lt. Gov. is a little sister who’s just going to oppose her Big Brother on whatever HE wants for the sake of BEing oppositional, or SOMEthin’ like that…!

PQ l do nothing to help her.
Sheila needs labor to win…she needs more passionate labor support than PQ will ever get. She’s hoping this does it.
So it was a political play.
