* Via the RedEye, we have the new mascot for the Chicago Cubs…
* From the RedEye…
“The Cubs are thrilled to welcome Clark as the team’s official mascot,” said Alison Miller, senior director of marketing. “Clark is a young, friendly Cub who can’t wait to interact with our other young Cubs fans. He’ll be a welcoming presence for families at Wrigley Field and an excellent ambassador for the team in the community.”
You can follow Clark on Twitter @ClarktheCub. He pulled a little bit of a Phil Jackson with his first tweet Monday.
“Still figryuing out how 2 tyype with these big pawz. Will gett lessons from @Cubs. Come back soon!!”
Your, um, thoughts?

Cute enough, and maybe it’s me, but just wonderin’, do Baby Bears REALLY have Blue eyes??
Comment by Just The Way It Is One Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 3:42 pm
I thought this was a gag. It’s not.
Release Squeezy from the Dome’s Chamber of Secrets — we need to get rid of this embarrassment right away.
I’ve got a better idea to put fannies in seats — charge AAA prices until you put a major league team on the field.

Ugh!
Of course I wasn’t a fan of Ribbie & Rhubarb or Southpaw either.
The NY Yankees have done pretty well over the years without a silly mascot.
Comment by Stones Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 3:45 pm
Clark has buddies..,
Sheffield, the Pony, for rich kids who get toys to run.
Addison, the alligator, whose arms are so short, he won’t pay for a watchable Ball Club.
And Waveland, the willobeast, who herds into the bleachers for the Beer and the Sun, using the watering hole as safety from the predator Ricketts.
And I wonder why the Club looses 90+ games?
I am a Dope!

Stupid auto-correct
“Loses” and ” willdabeast”

You can see the sadness in his eyes. He has drawn the short straw among his animated small-bear friends.

“O God, ease our suffering in this, our moment of great dispair. Yea, admit this good and decent mopppet into thine arms in the flock in thine heavenly area, up there. And Moab, he laid its down by the band of the Canaanites, and yea, though the Hindus speak of karma, I implore you: give him… give the Ricketts a break.”

There’s another version where it’s holding a baseball like, “Heeeeeey, what’s this?” - which seems about right.

They really captured the sadness of most Cub fans in his eyes.
Comment by Treefiddy Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 3:54 pm
Instead of learning how to type, maybe he can learn to play third and also how to take a pitch when he is at bat. THEN he can teach the rest of the team to take a pitch!

Ronnie Woo-woo won’t like this interloper stepping on his gig.
Clark better look out. Ronnie has a nice set of choppers now and will rip him to shreds.

Not quite, he was suppose to graduate from U. Of Chicago, but hung out at Wrigley all year till Mama Bear and Papa Bear flew in from Nebraska for a graduation that never happened and…
This sounds eerily familiar…

So new management was going to get rid of the old culture of Cub dumb! And they do this?
Yeesh! I’ve always bragged about being a Cub fan, but this is way over the top even for the Cubs!
Comment by Louis G. Atsaves Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 4:06 pm
well, at least this will stop the whining of Cubs fans about Southpaw and the predecessors….”you have that mascot, we don’t do that….”
Comment by Amalia Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 4:08 pm
I can’t stand the lack of substance that went from Wrigley, to Tribune and now Ricketts. We put up a statue of Harry Caray instead of Ernie Banks. think of that. Now we have a mascot that looks like something from a grade school.

I hope the Cubs have the decency to put some pants on this animated bear.
None of this Sugar Bear or Winnie the Pooh, with their sweaters and no pants.
Heck, Yogi and Boo-boo just wear ties — nothing else!
Thank of the children, Cubs!

I appreciate the Cubs giving me a reason to post my favorite Cubs’ franchise folly from 2013 - a 100 page cease and desist letter demanding some neighborhood goofball cease “Unabated mascot activities”.

The people shelling out $40 and way, way, up for decent seats to not very decent baseball in 2014 will no doubt be overjoyed to have that thing bouncing around all game long.
Comment by Chicago Bars Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 4:25 pm
Well, they had to put something on that giant jumbotron between innings, but I wasn’t expecting this.
Comment by 47th Ward Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 4:31 pm
Wow…I thought this was a gag too.
I just hope he doesn’t get a sister named Addison, all dressed up in pink Cubs gear. There are already too many of those toddling around the city

Clark, let me know when the Cubs are in the World Series. Otherwise, don’t bother me. I’ve been a disappointed Cub fan far too long.

Looks like a play to get families to fill the empty seats now that Wrigley’s not an utomatic sell out. Not sure how that will work with the sky high ticket prices.
Or, trying to dethrone the ’80s Sox uniforms as worst Chicago baseball design mistake ever?
Comment by Century Club Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 5:34 pm
This is a “Heckler” joke, right?
Comment by Keyser Soze Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 5:35 pm
No worries. In a couple of weeks, the ‘newbie’ will become the officially designated mascot of the team bus for the (a) Daytona Cubs, or the (b) Iowa Cubs
Wait for it.

The Chicago Tribune runs an editorial on the corruption, fraud, and nepotism at Chicago State University and Capitol Fax (which routinely follows activities at SIU and U of I) would rather talk about a cartoon mascot? Sheesh… Doesn’t Crony State University merit attention too?

Comment by Joe Schmoe Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 9:26 pm
I can’t stand it when I see a youny person with the hat turned backwards. This is a sign of a bad attitude and another losing season. The management is somewhat like Quinn though. They don’t care if their record stinks, just so they get reelected.
Comment by Howard Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 10:20 pm
But can he sing Take Me Out to the Ball Game well? Isn’t that all that matters at Wrigley?
Comment by Anonymous Monday, Jan 13, 14 @ 10:28 pm
Clark is another buffer for Theo.
He has a manager, a director of baseball operations, two assistant GMs, and a GM. And now Clark.
That’s way better than Andy MacPhail had when he snoozed through his Cubs management to nowhere.
Don’t be fooled. It’s all on Theo.
He inherited a very good Red Sox team and added some of the best free agent juicers of all time to win his titles.
He’s never won before on his five-year plan of suck until we don’t. When you’re drawing nearly 3 million a year at top-shelf prices.

Adding a new character is often a desperate attempt to boost low ratings. I’m told that Poochie–I mean, “Clark”–is still in beta-testing and they are considering rastafying him by 10% to make him more “in-your-face.”
Seriously, only Crane Kenney and the other geniuses in the Cubs’ management would think that THIS is what fans meant when they said they wanted Wrigley Field to be more “family-friendly.”
