Great article. Thanks for posting.
I wholeheartedly agree with everything in this except his statement
“Their remoteness from their constituents’ needs,”.
What this area continues to ‘need’ is economic development and jobs. Senator Welch has seen to it that we got our share from Springfield, even in bad times and has always been there for the citizens of the 38th Dist., especially since we have ended the 25 years of Republican destruction of our state. As Chair of the Appropriations Committee he was really in a position to ‘bring home the bacon’ and he has.
Unfortunately for the citizens of the 38th District, we will no longer be bringing in the millions of dollars each year that Senator Welch has brought to us. And in the year to come, as the new convention center and PetsMart comes to Ottawa, we will still be reaping the rewards of having Senator Patrick Welch as our representative in Springfield.
As you are enjoying these new facilities and seeing the jobs that it brings to the Illinois Valley, and boosts the tourism for the entire area, Please do not forget who brought you these things.
NOT the Republican party or their new Senator.
The millions of dollars that Senator Welch brought to our district for infrastructure, roads, bridges, etc. as well as our schools cannot be matched in the Senate for 4 years at least. These will not be provided by a freshman Republican in the minority party. What a shame for all of us.
Again, I would encourage everyone to make contact with Senator-elect Dahl and keep him up on our needs and agenda. He has said that he will work in a bipartisan way for the good of the District. Let’s keep him to his words.
