* This is not the “killer” ad I’d heard about. That one may be coming next. We’ll just have to wait and see. I’ll leave comments opened for a few hours tonight so y’all can weigh in…
…Adding… The above ad is not the ad which will run tomorrow on all stations. The spot above had to be edited to remove a reference to NBC after a legal row over at ABC 7.
…Adding more… Here’s the script for the ad which will be aired everywhere but on WLS…
Narrator: Bruce Rauner says;
Bruce Rauner: “We’re going to Springfield and run Illinois like a business “
Narrator: But NBC reports Rauner’s business operated nursing homes where residents died from abuse and neglect.
Narrator: Arlene Townsend. Fell 18 times.
Narrator: Juanita Jackson. Suffered from malnutrition and dehydration.
Narrator: Elvira Nunziata. Strapped to her wheelchair. Fell downstairs. Not found for almost an hour.
Narrator: Court after court awarded more than $1 billion to victims’ families.
Rauner: “We’re going to run Illinois like a business “
Narrator: Hasn’t Bruce Rauner’s business done enough damage?

Talks too much, but much better than the previous spots.

This one is pretty on the nose. Rauner wants you to think he’s this great businessman and he’s going to apply the same principles to state government. This a) hits him right where he lives and b) points out that his business has had to pay a billion dollars in fines for nursing home deaths. That’s a billion with a ‘b’. You don’t pay a billion dollars in fines unless you’re bad at business or you’ve made the business decision that it’s cheaper to pay out these neglect, abuse and death fines when people die than the cost of treating people with dignity and valuing their life.
If the unions have an ad more direct and brutal than this then maybe this race could change.

Bruce Rauner already has a response….

Brutal Ad to Rauner. Faces of ACtual Senior Vicims with details as to the neglect and abuse to them (while running such a “Business,” like THAT, Rauner just kept rakin’ it in)! The message is so obvious and clear: if THAT is how this guy runs HIS BUSinesses, is THIS the guy you want running it like that for all of the People of Illinois?! I don’t THINK so…!
It may not, indeed, be the “Killer Ad,” but it cuts to the Bone HARD, and I guarantee you his people are reeling, and you can almost BET on it–just given the GLOB$ of money he has to throw around to protect his rear–likely his Handlers will put out some flimsy response Ad by no later than Sunday or Monday…!

Powerful. Can be impactful? Depends on saturation.
And tragic.

Why does a Harvard MBA say Bidness. Is that just part of the Carhartt and Cheap watch schtick?
If this thing gets enough play, it could really give the career bidnessman’s crew a pain.

Some lawyers just had their weekend ruined.

Other than being at least a month too late, it’s a pretty decent ad - very specific, on point, and will strike a nerve for those voters who may still be undecided. Will be interesting to connect Brady and Dillard’s poll numbers as a benchmark to this airing and the subsequent ads.

==could really give the career bidnessman’s crew a pain==
Amen. But I think some of those Big Shots actually also wrongly pronounce it “creer” bidnessman’s..! (Ha ha–good stuff)…

I think Rauner’r positive spots were fine,, but he made a big mistake going negative himself in his intro spots.
Nobody else was out there. Why?
Who likes a hater, daddio> That’s why God invented voiceover talent.
Now you’re going to hear Rauner going negative until November.
He should have stayed positive in the intros, and let voiceovers get nasty.
Basic stuff, cheeesheads. You ain’t in Wisconsin, anymore.
But now, Raunwe, has to answer the negatives on the nursing homes himself. Like Mr. Burns.
Really, Chip? Shrimp? Got game?
You’ve been spending and cashing checks like crazy.
You ain’t in Bad Axe, anymore. Forward, Cheesehead.

The sound of your own voice …
Response/Attack Ads that throw back the rhetoric also leave an impact, especially in the voice if the intended target.

Wow! Running Illinois more like a business? Good! Running Illinois like a rauner business? Despicable! If rauner wins the primary you will see an independent conservative candidate for governor!

Pat Quinn will love that.

Ok, but I’m still waiting for “killer.”

Good start. If the union ad is harder hitting and there is enough money to run often, it could be a game changer. This is the story that will get attention south of I-80.

After they take all your property, then Medicare pays. I imagine some nursing home operations submit fraudulent reimbursements to Medicare.

Lex Green in 2010 and Cal Skinner in 2002. This is not uncommon.

Not sure. I have seen too many Tea Partiers and right wingers in head first for the farmer. Though for them, it’s mostly money over social principles.

Between Oberweis and that phantom Conservative, Rauner will go over $80 million trying to break free from Oberweis, and trying to dismantle the Conservative. Rauner is at $12+ Million, got to do something with 2 headaches…

When you run out of your LTC coverage or your money for your nursing home, I thought it was Medicaid not Medicare, that paid and took your (spousal 1/2) house.
Comment by RNUG Friday, Feb 28, 14 @ 7:40 pm
Yes, my mistake. Medicaid it is.
Comment by Samurai Friday, Feb 28, 14 @ 7:41 pm
I agree that there will be an independent conservative if Rauner wins the nomination. I hope not though. Rauner is far from perfect, but he is a whole lot better then 4 more years of Pat Quinn.
One name and only one name comes to my mind as an independent conservative candidate for Governor… Adam Andrzejewski.

Kinda timely…Ibendahl has a fresh report up on HuffPost Chicago on the nursing homes. A new court filing involving the late Juanita Jackson (named in the ad above) hits hard and tends to refute a fair piece of the Rauner “fact sheet.”
Does having a gazillion bucks relieve you of the obligation to tell the truth? This crew seems to have a tough time with it.
Comment by Arthur Andersen Friday, Feb 28, 14 @ 8:14 pm
The Paul Ryan ad linked at the top of the comments thread reminded me of this ad from 2006 regarding Madeleine Albright, North Korea, and national security. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7h3GPc_yMCE
Neither the Ryan ad or the Albright ad are in the territory of this ad against Rauner though. I’m not sure the anti-Rauner spot will be effective, but in my mind it is not so over the top as to be immediately dismissed by anyone other than Raunerbots.
Comment by Precinct Captain Friday, Feb 28, 14 @ 8:18 pm
The Ryan ad was a dramatic fiction. The Rauner nursing home ad is fact. Lason, Inc (GTCR Pump and Dump profits and fraud convictions for Lason executives)is fact; Stuart Levine being paid 50k more than the COO and CEO at CompBenefits–Fact.
With enough air time for the abuse and neglect–Knock, Knock Farmer Brucey–Willy Horton is at yur door.
Comment by Samurai Friday, Feb 28, 14 @ 8:26 pm
Cheesy. Maybe they are trying to lower to bar so the killer add seems stronger by comparison.
