* Click the mailer for a larger image and pay special attention to the politicians pictured around the targeted candidate’s head…
* Nancy Schiavone is running in a crowded Democratic primary field and is attempting to unseat appointed state Rep. Jaime Andrade (D-Chicago).
Dick Mell engineered his former aide Andrade’s appointment to the House. Rep. Andrade was slated by Joe Berrios’ Cook County Democratic Party. Andrade is backed to the hilt by House Speaker Michael Madigan.
So, to have photos of those three guys (plus Daley for good measure) on a mailer and make it look like Schiavone is the “machine” candidate is so ludicrous it’s almost hilarious.
But, hey, whatever works, I suppose.
* Also, the mailer was paid for by the Alliance of Illinois Taxpayers NFP, which received some contributions last month from an Operating Engineers local.
It’s probably no coincidence that Local 399 has made several contributions to House Democratic candidates this year.

Question is whether the voters in this district will pick up on the irony.

Wow, that mailer is the definition of “chutzpah.”

I don’t know if that’s the first time I’ve seen an actual mailer attack someone for kicking someone else off the ballot.
I can’t say I find it very persuasive? GRRR this person I know nothing about might have BEEN ON THE BALLOT but for you!

I would argue that those that are able to recognize photos of Mell, Berrios, and Madigan are more the old-time, long-time residents of the ward that are likely to vote for Andrade anyways. The newer, yuppie residents are more likely to vote for Nancy, but wouldn’t recognize Mell, Berrios, etc.

Did she deny the voters the choice having Andrade nominated by a plurality due to a third candidate inserted into the race by the bosses for the purpose of splitting the opposition vote?

As they say, there is more to this story beneath the surface of that mail piece…

David, the “machine” ain’t the only folks who try to knock people off the ballot. Obama did it to Alice Palmer, for instance. It happens a lot. I would say she made a smart move if she found problems with that petition. Comparing her to the machine is just not credible, at least in my mind.

Anyone who sees an opportunity to knock someone off the ballot who can do real damage to your chances should go for it, simple as that. If they did something wrong in their filing or submitted too few signatures that’s on them, not the person who noticed it and had them removed. Common sense, make your filing flawless.

“Finding” the petition’s problem is not point behind that piece.

They picked a good picture of Berrios.

If a candidate for State Representative can’t figure out the correct way to file some pretty simple nominating papers then they shouldn’t be on the ballot in the first place.
Calling Nancy a machine candidate is laughable - especially when you know Madigan is the one really behind Jaime’s campaign and this mailer.

Yes, but that’s a great picture of Daley. What a scowl! That dude never had much of a poker face, every emotion he was feeling was broadcast on his face. You didn’t want to be on the receiving end of that look from him that’s for sure.

The more interesting thing here is that even Madigan’s proxies are acknowledging that being associated with the Speaker is a political liability. Of course, the Speaker has tons of money to offset this liability. On the other hand, the more the Speaker is known, the less he is liked. More than anyone he embodies Springfield, which is not a good thing.

Yeah, Rauner’s the hypcorite…

This might mean something had Schiavone not tied Andrade to Madigan in her mail pieces over the last several weeks. That narrative has already been driven home and probably hurts Andrade so the stage is set. Clearly the Speaker is just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks.

When I saw Dick Mell’s picture on this flyer, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing.

If they’re putting stuff out like this, Mell is scared she might actually win.

Sure the HGOP wasn’t helping out with this one? Looks familiar.
