Senger has a ground game going. Have not seen a thing from Miller.

The electronic voting booths are not working at The Belden Stratford because the password is incorrect. Ward 43 Precinct 32.

Crickets.
Hit my polling location at 5:56 and was out at 6:03. First vote in my precint. The fact that most of the primary elections in Cook County are uncontested is hinting at low turnout.

Someone working for Dillard has place signs outside of numerous polling places on the North and Northwest sides of Chicago. No other Republican gubernatorial candidates had any signs in position unless they are going to the polling places now.

First voter in a 2-precinct polling place in the far reaches of suburbia, and so quiet I could hear a pin drop. Except for a lone sign in front, I woudn’t have recognized it as a polling place.
Comment by Six Degrees of Separation Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 7:31 am
Super quiet this morning in Springfield, Rich. Was the 2nd voter in my precinct at 7am. Odd.
And apparently Jay Travis was turned away from her own precinct.
Comment by Corporate Thug Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 7:33 am
“Second City Cop” blog recommended that CPD officers pull a Republican ballot and vote for Dillard. Nothing like waiting until the last possible second. Reasoning: pensions and Rauner’s anti-union rhetoric.

At least two near-northwest side precincts were not open by 6:45 or so. Not sure if that impacted the Berrios/Guzzardi race.
Comment by Anonz Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 7:43 am
If signs mean anything and I’m not sure they do, but all I see is Dillard out here in west suburbs
Comment by Obama's Puppy Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 7:43 am
Jaime Andrade is passing palm cards in front of St Luke’s in Logan Square. A few Guzzardi volunteers and Berrios paid canvassers out there as well.
More people passing palm cards outside than people who have voted there so far.
Comment by Northwest Sider Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 7:44 am
On my way into the office, I was at the precinct at 6:00 and was the second voter. With the weather not being a problem, it maybe interesting.

We’re passing out the IFT Dillard flyers in our schools and I hear the IEA is making robocalls asking members to take a Republican ballot to vote against Rauner.
Comment by Wensicia Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 7:46 am
Saw Bill Brady at OTC this morning trying to work the voters. He seemed cheerful and hopeful. Putting on a good front

Had to get testy with my first husband when he said he always votes against all the judges as a protest against the process. Sent him off to the polls with the ISBA list and a flea in his ear….
Comment by Soccermom Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 7:55 am
An Eddie Winters volunteer handed me a piece outside my polling location (where there was an 8:1 ratio of election judges to voters).

10 voters at polling place near comiskey park. New system not working so voted by paper ballot. Volunteers from 11th ward dems outside the polling spot
Comment by Anonymous Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 7:59 am
The IEA has really gone all in for Dillard in terms of mailings and Robocalls.

Dillard spotted at the Elmhurst train station this morning…
Comment by phocion Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:08 am
The machine collecting ballots for Capital 17 and 44 on Springfield’s southwest side (Sherwood/Westchester) had counted 27 ballots at around 7:45 p.m. The election judge says he expects 20% today.
Comment by Barton Lorimor Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:09 am
Dillard signs are up at 47th ward precincts. A sign proves nothing other than the fact that one person stuck it in the ground. Whether that person, and thousands like him or her, then goes out and does something meaningful today is another matter.
Comment by Snucka Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:10 am
Drove past numerous polling places on my way to work in Peoria. Dillard signs at every one of them and no sign of any other gubernatorial candidate. He might just pull this off. He’s got the dedicated followers that Rauner doesn’t.
Comment by DevotedVoter Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:10 am
I will say IEA has gone all in…They either pull off a big upset… Or this will help Rauner when they fail this attempt and then back Quinn… I think it would have made sense 3 months ago… But today… Plays into perceptions of Union bosses… And I fear, teachers get beat up more than they deserve because of this…
Also, 10 Grogan signs at my polling place… 0 Cross Western Burbs…
Comment by Walter Mitty Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:11 am
I see Senger signs EVERYWHERE. I ran down 75th this morning on the way to work and from Darien to Naperville it is just plastered. Not much activity from Balkema and NO Miller signs. Senger’s team must have been working hard last night…
Comment by TechGuy38 Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:13 am
Cross signs everywhere in downers grove. Really giving it to Grogan in his home town
Comment by Mustangs Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:14 am
In West Will Senger Balkema and Batinick are dominating. Nothing from Mancke or Miller. There was a Senger volunteer at my polling location though not many voters
Comment by dick simpkins Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:15 am
Signs. lol.

In the final hours of the campaign, you don’t have that many things you can do. So put up signs at polling places even though, especially in a primary, it’s hard to imagine many people making up their mind to vote for someone because of the sign.
But heaven help you if you don’t do it.

First time in many years I’m going to wait until after work to vote. I want to see the number of ballots. Rauner & Grogan signs everywhere here. Someone was busy last night.

Ran into Bert Miller at the Lisle train station this morning. He looked exhausted, I asked him how he was holding up and he said that he couldn’t wait for this to all be over.
Hey Bert it goes till November!

In my heavily-voting Palatine Township Republican suburban precinct, I was voter number 7 at 7:45. NO SIGNS up. I am floored by the lack of interest.
Comment by WonderfulWorld Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:41 am
My Champaign County precinct had Dillard signs out but no Brady signs. Kinda surprised by that. Light turnout. I was the only one there at 7:30.
Comment by Downstate Weed Chewing Hick Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:46 am
General malaise in Orland. 2nd ballot pulled for my party of choice in my precinct. Poll workers had to figure out how to get the machine to accept an undervote. (Yes, I was too fed up with the choices in some races and just didn’t vote them.) Told them they better learn because I won’t be the only one.

==In the final hours of the campaign, you don’t have that many things you can do. ==
If you feel like your campaign has very little to do on the morning of Election Day, in this day and age of technology and voter databases….then you’re doing it wrong.

Confirm the Dillard signs up around the Chicago north side precincts. But people rarely vote the top of the ticket based on signs.
Comment by ZC Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:53 am
Going to vote in the Repub. primary for the first time in years. I have a pension to protect and Dillard is the only one that gives me any hope.

WHO CARES ABOUT THE YARD SIGNS!?
Comment by Up and Adam Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:57 am
Dillard may have a shot. No one has a GOTV operation on a par with the teachers…
Comment by Mouthy Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:58 am
Low turnout at my polling place. Grogan and Rauner signs galore around my polling place and all along my route to work. I saw a handful of Dillard signs, 1 Brady sign and I have still yet to see a Cross sign in this campaign. Did he even purchase signs?
Comment by Frustrated Voter Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 8:59 am
Mustang-No Cross Signs in Downers Grove. GROGAN everywhere. Well-supported here. Nice try though with the spin.
Comment by Jen Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 9:00 am
I live in a big GOP precinct but low turnout as of 8:15 am. One Rauner sign, four Grogan signs, and that was it on the GOP side. Dem side had one sign for a sheriff candidate.
Comment by Rural Madison Co Tuesday, Mar 18, 14 @ 9:04 am
Signs could be a whole topic of their own. I’ve found that local pols love seeing their name on signs, and in local elections they can create a sense of camaraderie, especially in a hot race. Of course, it can also be demoralizing for a candidate in a race like that to walk a precinct and see it blanketed in his opponent’s signs.
For statewide races, they’re just decorations.

I just heard from a non-political buddy of mine that he chatted, at the bar, with Bill Brady for about an hour last night at Hugo’s Frog Bar. I found it very weird that Brady, the night before the election, was drinking/eating at Hugo’s, while, presumably, his staff and volunteers were preparing for today. Obviously, Brady doesn’t think he has a chance (which he doesn’t).

Speaking of signs: Over the weekend, I saw scores of yard signs for Manju Goel, a Republican candidate for the 8th Congressional District. But at no point was I — or any of the yard signs — actually in the 8th Congressional District.
Yard signs!!1!
