Rauner mascot to hound Quinn

Posted in:

* From the Rauner campaign…

Introducing Quinnocchio

Pat Quinn’s alter-ego, Quinnocchio, is making his first appearance today alongside the governor at his noon campaign stop at Linné Elementary School to remind him of his broken promises.

Discuss.

…Adding… Here’s the governor’s press release for today’s school visit…

Governor Pat Quinn today visited Carl von Linné Elementary School in Chicago and discussed his fiscal year 2015 budget proposal and five-year blueprint to raise state investment in the classroom to its highest point in Illinois history. As a result of tackling the cost drivers behind the financial crisis he inherited, the Governor was able to present a budget that invests an additional $6 billion in education over the next five years.

“The future of Illinois’ economy depends on the quality of our education,” Governor Quinn said. “All students—no matter where they live—deserve to go to a first-rate school. That is why my budget proposal invests like never before in education and support for early childhood development.”

The Governor’s investment in education in the FY15 budget includes:

Since taking office, Governor Quinn has fought to preserve education from radical budget cuts, and built and repaired 978 schools. In his Fiscal Year 2015 Budget Address, Governor Quinn laid out an honest and responsible budget for the next fiscal year along with a five-year blueprint that will secure the state’s finances for the long-term, provide significant tax relief to homeowners and working families and invest like never before in education and early childhood.

For more than 100 years Carl von Linné School has been providing a world-class education to children in the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago. The mission of Carl Von Linné Elementary School is to prepare students for college and career by providing a rigorous research-based instructional program, aligned to the Common Core State Standards, with a focus on educating the “whole child.”

  11. The nose is too short. Quinn has lied more than once about the income tax increase. In the 2010 campaign he claimed to be against it and promised not to sign such an increase into law if it passed. After winning the election, he broke his promise and signed the tax increase, but assured us that it would be temporary, etc.

  38. Amateurish.

The guy doesn’t look like Quinn. If Rauner can throw millions into his campaign, he should be able to invest in a Quinn mask.

“Quinnocchio, is making his first appearance today alongside the governor at his noon campaign stop at Linné Elementary School to remind him of his broken promises.”

Quinn went to a school to discuss his plan to improve education in Illinois and Rauner was there protesting it. Not sure it’s the best campaign photo-op for Rauner.

Comment by Grandson of Man Thursday, Mar 27, 14 @ 12:59 pm

  39. On the second part of the story, it’s interesting that Quinn talks about spedning more money but doesn’t set any objective performance meassurable goals he expects to be achieved, or what happens if it’s proven out that the hundreds of millions he’ll be stealing form families in taxes did anything more than fatten the wallets of the educrats.

Any serious plan for improving the abysmal quality of education in Illinois MUST be accompanied by standards that must be met, otherwise the spending is only patronage pork with which the unions can launder state money into campaign cash for him.

The sad part is that parents outside the charter community aren’t interested enough to demand the quality of education for which we all pay big time…and we sure can’t count on Quinn to hold Big ed accountable in loco parentis.

It seems a lot of you guys are perfectly comfortable with a governor misleading….uh, wait a minute - you guys also voted for Rod Blagojevich too, right?

  44. =Quinn went to a school to discuss his plan to improve education in Illinois=

He did no such thing. He only presented his plan to make education more expensive, not better quality.

When he proposes a plan to fund the child through the school that fits them best through vouchers, protect the children from union extortion and blackmail through strikes, and come up with an educational methodology instead of the “common Core” disaster that puts the money where it does the students the most good rather than for the educrats, THEN he’ll be talking about improving education.

    Never….Happen.

  45. To the Post, and all kidding aside;

This seems to be a “Problem” for the Rauner Crew.

Let’s not forget the amateurish “acceptance” speech Bruce gave. The yelling, the mashing of talking points that make no sense and the blathering. Very amateurish. Money can’t buy class.

These type of stunts keep the Blago similarities fresh on my mind as well. It’s as though. “I have money, take me serious, even though I take none of this serious myself.”

Rauner can’t out “Quinn” Pat Quinn. Being amateurish reminds me adults need to solve adult problems. Squeezy was so roundly rejected, it lead to withholding pay of legislators. Will “Quinnoccio” lead to the swearing in of a governor who is going to shutdown the state because the Constitution is too big a hurdle to understand?

Rauner is scary on many fronts. “Quinnoccio” reminds me of this. Pathetic.

    - OneMan -,

If I knew how Rauner might govern that us not voting against my better self, I might be more pleasant. I don’t think Quinn’s Crew would call me an apologist for the governor, but I see the politics of MJM, Cullerton, Quinn, their game plan, and GOTV history of success; that us not being an apologist, it’s being a realist of what November might bring.

  48. Someone raises a really interesting point in the comments. Where IS Rahm in the race? Now that we’re in the general and Rahm isn’t radioactive to targeted voters (INDs) anymore, If Rahm quietly helps Rauner, this will be a route. Rahms not stupid. If he sees change and improvement for Chicago/himself, I could see him figuring out a way to get Rauner an extra five to ten percent in Chicago.

  67. –Brady lost to Quinn on Election Day because he ignored one County that has 40% of the State’s voters–

Brady’s spots were on constantly in the Chicago metro.

And there are hundreds of thousands of loyal GOP voters in Cook County — exponentially more than any other county in the state, for those who are hung up on counties.

But, for some inexplicable reason, the county organization is a shell, a joke, except in a few townships.

The GOP cannot get their peeps to knock on doors and get out their plusses. It wasn’t always that way. But it has been for a long time.

I’ve been in my Oak Park house for 25 years. I’ve pulled GOP and Dem ballots at primary time.

Every general election, I get three or four door knocks from the local Dem party, whether it was Rock or Harmon. Lots of lit drops.

And my ancient precinct captain is on the street walking his dog every day, just checking in. He knows my kids names and what they’re up to.

I’ve never had a GOP door knock in 25 years. I’ve had one piece of lit — from Jason Plummer.

There’s no crying when you’re outhustled.

    So,

What was turnout? Was turnout so high, that finding “Pluses” becomes irrelevant? Nope.

See, the reason campaigns fail in understanding Ground Game rules is this idea that maximizing the impact of voting every possible “plus” makes little or no difference in a big picture vote total.

Brady lost by 4 more votes a Precinct, with a turnout NOT at 90%… so votes are out there to find.

When I hear a campaign voted every single one of their pluses, and confirmed those pluses on the streets, regardless of a turnout factor, and then loses, that will be a first.

==When I hear a campaign voted every single one of their pluses, and confirmed those pluses on the streets, regardless of a turnout factor, and then loses, that will be a first.==

Ha. No campaign could ever do this and you know that. There’s the theoretical and then there’s the practical. Are you arguing that with the right field staff no race is unwinnable for any party? I just don’t agree. Hand pick a GOP dream team and put them in IL-7 and Danny Davis still rolls. Similarly, put the top Dem aides in IL-15 and my money is still on Shimkus. There’s what’s possible and theory and what’s possible in reality. Field work is extremely important and extremely overlooked because it’s not flashy. For a GOPer to win statewide in IL you need a great field team to identify and turnout plusses. A great field ops can do the right things and still lose if the PVI is too great. It’s necessary, but not sufficient.

Clearly the numbers show that Dold team identified and turned out his plusses because it’s not like those plusses were voting GOP on any other races considering how HGOP and SGOP got cleaned out across Lake County. Dismissing what Dold did just strikes me as bizarre.

Fact is, I’m not sure there are any GOP field staffs in the state better equipped to win a tough election than Dold/Kirk staffers who have turned out voters on unfriendly turf before and I was impressed that Rauner snatched so many of them up.

    Necessary but not sufficient.

  85. ===Are you arguing that with the right field staff no race is unwinnable for any party?===

Not at all. I though Dold was “Competitive” seat? If your idea that Dold was not then, I wouldn’t waste my time now helping Dold.

===Field work is extremely important and extremely overlooked because it’s not flashy. For a GOPer to win statewide in IL you need a great field team to identify and turnout plusses===

That is the Ball Game. Brady learned the hard way in 2010, “Call me, Maybe?”, In 2012, without any follow through on all those calls reinforced that. Again.

===Clearly the numbers show that Dold team identified and turned out his plusses because it’s not like those plusses were voting GOP on any other races considering how HGOP and SGOP got cleaned out across Lake County. Dismissing what Dold did just strikes me as bizarre.===

Here is the “Rub” - turnout versus identified pluses and voting them in a Congressional Seat seen as “Competitive” tells me that votes are left on the table, simple as that. They were. You feel all the pluses were maximized? Turnout factors into my thought, is all.

===Fact is, I’m not sure there are any GOP field staffs in the state better equipped to win a tough election than Dold/Kirk staffers who have turned out voters on unfriendly turf before and I was impressed that Rauner snatched so many of them up.===

Money. Money talks. It always has. Plus, it helps Kirk’d flank against a “Schock”ing attack on Sen. Kirk. Lots of possible moving parts at play.

There was no GOTV for Rauner. The impact of 20 days and the Unions “McGyvering” a 17.2 point reduction of a margin tells me the Unions are ready to try to repeat 2010 against Brady. Is Rauner going to be ready on the streets? The primary dry run seems to point in a negative direction.

  86. I agree with Spliff that the millionaire could have spent a couple of bucks on a better sign.

OneMan, I have great respect for you and seldom look askance at the views of a fellow Auroran and NIU alum. However, I’m concerned with your overgeneralization of the Rauner opposition. Most of us who are opposed to Rauner don’t do so because we think Quinn is a good governor. Quite the opposite, Quinn has been incompetent. It’s just that we see Rauner as another Blago flying under Republican colors. Not that Rauner will be looking for money, but he will continue the chaos and damage Blago brought to state government.

My only hope if Rauner gets elected is that he wasn’t truthful in his aggressive statements toward the General Assembly and the constituency groups and works with folks on solutions. That will be the best course for governing, but his core supporters would be disappointed. I can’t take a chance that he is going to do that, so I intend to vote for Willy.

It should shock no one why I am beyond comfortable with - Norseman - running the campaign. As much as that us pure fun in that statement, it is also, equally, meant with high respect.

    To - Norseman - post,

That grab I just took is exactly, perfectly, and unchallenging any word, the perfect explanation as to why I, personally, stand as I do.

    Period.

    Great explanation. Thanks.

  89. I cannot believe the lack of sense of humor on this thread. C’mon people. Yes. It’s a stunt. Quinnocchio is a clever photo op created to reinforce a key campaign message. Now that it’s warmer out I bet a *lot* of unhappy people in this state would be happy to “shadow” Quinn in a crazy outfit, too.

  91. At the same time Quinn is going to be campaigning/defending making the income tax permanent he’s going to be blasted about handing out $50 million dollars in grants to connected Chicago politicians (along with economy, budget & mismanagement). I’m not sure Illinois voters are just going to say, well, that $50 million isn’t going to solve all our problems.

There is some deep problems here for Quinn, Quinnocchio is just a silly stunt, although it is funny.

I myself would rather shadow Quinn as Soy Boy.

Whenever I see stuff like this, it always makes me wonder about whether other States and other countries are doing/have been doing something similar–and whether they’re “known for it” and/or criticized or applauded for it. While I suppose some research might provide a clue, I’d imagine that some of the “poking fun at” might still be done locally within the area where it occurs, or we’re not culturally sensitive to the jabs.
