* Mark Brown notes that if Gov. Pat Quinn were running against anyone else, his reception at last week’s IEA forum might not have been so warm, what with pension benefit cuts and cuts to education funding…
But Quinn reminded delegates to the Illinois Education Association that the choice in the upcoming election isn’t between what they want and what he did.
“Please don’t compare me to the Almighty. Compare me to the alternative over here,” Quinn said, gesturing to Rauner, who makes no secret of his antagonism toward teacher unions. […]
Meeting briefly with reporters after the session, Rauner started off by quipping: “I’ve never been called Bruce Almighty before. I kinda like that.” […]
We’ve been needing a nickname for Rauner to go with the Quinnocchio depiction he’s hung on Quinn, and I’d say Bruce Almighty is a perfect fit.
Bruce Almighty: the candidate with the miraculous plan to cut the state income tax back to pre-Quinn levels and still provide more money for education and pay off the state’s backlog of bills.
* The Question: What would your nicknames be for both candidates? Make sure to explain.

I can’t think of too many winning campaigns where the theme was “I’m not so bad after all when you look at the other guy.”

===I can’t think of too many winning campaigns where the theme was “I’m not so bad after all when you look at the other guy.” ===
You’re not paying attention then. Just about every campaign has this theme.
Now, back to the question, please.

“Middle Man! and Partisan Boy!”
A mild mannered nearly billionaire, with a Chicago home for one child, and another home for the rest, teams up with a governor, trying to bring everyone together with the will of the people, law of the land…however …
You get them in front of a camera …
“Middle Man!” scurries towards the middle, never picking a side that might have anyone else be … against it.
“Partisan Boy!” will light up about helping all his partisan friends, and make sure you know … who the bad guy really is, even if it rains.

Mitt Rauner has worked very well. We hear the term used every day in every region of the state
Squishy still sounds good too.
Best part of Mitt was his repudiation of every statement during the primary in order to look like of the lead footed monster he is.
Even after attacking Cinda, he tried to play nice.
The folly was running the adding machine every time Mitt said ” my wife and I have …donated…spent …gave….paid… millions….thousands….on education”
What he did not say is the spending accompanies buy tax credits which helped Mitt become our favorite billionaire.
Still waiting for someone to report they went to Duluth to visit Stu or met with Weinberg who is out of the joint and back in town

Romney: Vague promises and policies and some flip-flopping, weird Lt. Governor pick, has a lot of money to throw around
Carter: The Independent once said that Carter was a better man than president. His approval ratings were horrible and many lumped Carter in with Watergate after Carter pardoned Nixon.

–“after Carter pardoned Nixon”–
AA, that was after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, if you know your Blutarsky history.
–Daddy Warbucks and Paddy Roebuck’s?–
I think we have a winner.
Was a little surprised by the edge to Brownie’s column in regards to Rauner. Similar to Bernie’s after he got lied to. Those guys have reputations as being dispassionate to a fault.
They’re not yokels, Daddy Warbucks. You can’t spin and insult them like that, so maybe Chip and Shrimp can teach you not to try.
The question becomes: does Rauner keep speaking in non-sensical platitudes and start taking the hits from media; or does he start filling in that “blank slate” of his and alienate some voters with specifics?
I’m guessing on the former.
But, c’mon man, give us a peak on the whole plan to cut taxes and increase education spending at the same time. Pretty please?
It must be on the order of Newton or Einstein in a mathematical breakthrough.

I’m getting off the train, and it’s like “White Christmas” out here. Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney should be singing.
Good thing I cleaned up the yard over the weekend. Won’t get those two days back.
Enough, already. Too long, too cold, too much snow. The snow mountain I built by my garage just died a week ago!
I reject reality. A couple of pops at Poor Phil’s then a large from Lou Malnatti’s (Canadian bacon, green pepper, onion), six pack, bud and “Justified” marathon to search for clues for the last season.
