On Illinois’ first day of statewide legalized gay marriage Westboro Baptist protesters will be outside the State Capitol, a press release from the church said Monday.
“Each rebel in the IL legislature will stand before God in the judgment and account for eading the people to error in running to this abomination,” the announcement says. Signs saying “Same Sex marriage dooms nations” and “America is doomed,” is featured on the press release, which says the Westboro picket will be held on Monday, June 2 from 8:45 to 9:15 am “in dire warning” to state lawmakers.
The morons, known for their insane anti-gay protests at military funerals, may be screaming outside the Statehouse, but unless something goes horribly wrong with the spring session, nobody but tourists and staff will be inside the building since adjournment is scheduled, as always, for May 31st.
So, their “dire warning” to lawmakers won’t be heard by any lawmakers. The cretins might as well just stay in their bat caves.
* Meanwhile…
Westboro Baptist Church is planning to protest next month’s Chicago Pride Fest, according to a Tweet posted Sunday morning.
In response to an article about the two-day street festival published by On Top Magazine, a content partner of ChicagoPride.com, the Topeka-based hate church tweeted: “@LGBTNewsNow @OnTopMag @WGNNews Westboro Baptist Church to picket @PrideFestChi! #SoExcited.”
Yeah. And I’m sure they’ll all get a nice, warm Chicago welcome, right?

Didn’t Fred Phelps have an opportunity to meet God in person recently? I wonder how that went?

You’re not kidding about that Chicago welcome, they might want to rethink that.
Comment by siriusly Tuesday, May 20, 14 @ 1:57 pm
Are they going to protest at that spot on Diversey and Pine Grove where the whack jobs usually congregate? Better get there early, it’s not a very big spot and most of it will already be taken up.

Westboro Baptist has been to Pride a number of times. They always look so sad–the rejection must be hard on them.

I wish the media would stop covering these people. It has become a way to depict all Christians as intolerant bigots.
The Bible says what it says about homosexuality. As the most studied Book in the history of the world that has never been proven false, it is difficult to contradict its teachings.
But while there is a correlation societal endorsement of homosexuality with societies in decline I do not believe evidence supports it as a cause. Perhaps a symptom.
The main point of the Bible is to love others as God loved us through his plan of salvation. If you are standing anywhere screaming at someone, you are going to equally be called to account for that sin. I do not support gay marriage or condone it. But anyone who choses that lifestyle is welcome to come to my church with the rest of the sinners who will be there.
For those who believe homosexuality is a sin, they must also accept is it no different than any other sin any of use commit. God does not rank sin and I have never understood why this one is depicted as a big one. The Bible also condemns people not taking care of their family and ignoring scriptural obligation to love others as sin. I will find you 10 dead beat dads leaving kids to live in poverty for every gay person in this state. This country is falling apart because it is comprised of by humans who if you believe the Bible are flawed, hence the need for salvation through Christ.
These people are not Christians, they are people using the Bible for personal gain and notoriety. I would rather sit on the St. Louis Arch with 100 gay people in a lightning storm than be associated with these people on judgment day.

“Cool your heels there Phelps boys, that will be a 32 day wait for your permit.”
(Is that the Chicago Welcome?)

Ah, Rich…you shouldn’t have told them the legislature won’t be around on June 2nd. The week after session is plain dead around the capitol and this was really the only entertainment we have. Hopefully nobody at Westboro is smart enough to read CapFax!

Unfortunately, it is also the most cherry picked book in history. Nor is it consistent in what it says. People will find a particular verse that supports their view and latch onto it.

With the WBC always so busy protesting and spewing out press releases, do they ever actually have a service?

Rich! Shhhh! Let them spend their money.
And Patriot - Catholics sort of rank them - venial vs. mortal sins.

Following up on Huh? Also, by Phelps’ literalist interpretation, one might argue it’s not that difficult to contradict it’s teachings (Luke 21:32 for example). And cherry picking is arguably the greatest sin of all: by elevating some lines in Leviticus above several of the Ten Commandments (ever see these people picketing NFL games?) they are striving, like Lucifer, to be “like the Most High.”

A quick, yet still horrible jaunt to their website indicates they are going to be here on Saturday the 31st and are protesting at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception… I wonder what the Holy Goalie thinks about this.

Hey the media covers intolerant bigots all the time especially when they are out of natural disasters, mass murders and other irrational acts
Wonder if ShakeyMitt Rauner will join them?
Comment by CircularFiringSquad Tuesday, May 20, 14 @ 3:04 pm
Maybe they can stop in and have tea with the Bishop of Springfield. Now that would be a lively discussion! They can debate who is the more anti-homosexual.

I’m a Christian, I have no problem with it. It’s a way to depict intolerant bigots as intolerant bigots, which is the kindest description I’d offer for these mad dogs.
Good to see Illinois Review is tuned into Wesboro, getting the inside scoop. I think this is a rare “news” item I’ve seen from them that doesn’t contain editorial commentary.
Here’s to the kids at Dominican in River Forest who stood against them a while back during a screening of “The Laramie Project,” and to the bikers all over the country who have shielded the grieving loved ones of service members at funerals from these soulless haters.

Oops! Forgot the WBC is also anti-Catholic and definitely ant-clerical. So no tea for them.

When my niece’s husband (a sailor) and baby were killed by a drunk driver, those bikers showed up for the funeral and escorted us to the cemetery. A grand bunch of fellows.

When’s the last time these guys actually showed up at an event after they put out a press release and the media dutifully publicized it? I haven’t been keeping track, but I think it’s been a while.

You’ve got that right.
In my neighborhood, they also do the Toys for Tots run to the armories the second weekend after Thanksgiving (I think, around then), then knock back a few at Docs and Duffy’s on Madison Street in Forest Park.
Salt of the earth, splendid behavior. Christmas tradition for me.

No, you don’t sink to their level. No physical violence. Jesus, Martin Luther King, Gandi.
Good people do not wish for or do bad things.
I believe that the leaders of this church are bad people and feel bad for their innocent children but violence is not the answer and throwing glitter is an act of violence. Also, violence breeds more violence.
I am not a Quaker and do believe that war is sometimes necessary. Also, violence in self defense to prevent a rape or murder, ect is acceptable but to start the violent act is not right. Just ignore them.
Better yet, the gays could shout when they pass by, we love you. Showing kindness and respect might get their children to wonder why they are shouting mean things at the gays.
What they are doing is wrong but ignoring them or showing them “love” will upset them and maybe change their children’s hearts. Doing violent acts will only make them more confident in their condemnation.
Be better then them.

I think it’s sad when people are directed by hate.
We should reflect on Christ’s words.
‘Forgive them, for they know not what they do.’
It’s a waste of time to hate the haters, better to ignore them while behind the wall of true Christians, the bikers.

This was obviously snark considering that the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a satirical creature, read up on it and see how it relates to this group.

It turns it back on them in a creative way.

It is wrong. You don’t throw things on people. I don’t know what your Westie is but it wrong.
Ask yourself if you would be offended if people put glitter on you against your will.
Personally, I had to stop myself from wishing bad on them when I was so angry with what they do at funerals.
It is dangerous for people to lose control when they have the power because then this country will go down the wrong path.
