“Footlong dandelions all over,” wrote the unhappy neighbor who sent the pictures. “Worst on the block. … I don’t know what’s worse, the front yard or the back.”
The dandelion tattletale said he sent the pictures because the dandelions and tall grass grow on the front lawn of a prominent Chicagoan who prides himself on regular-guy sensibilities — Gov. Pat Quinn.
I drove out to the governor’s West Side home to confirm that the front lawn of Quinn’s modest Georgian — on a quiet residential block of tidy lawns in Galewood — indeed was the same house with the weed-choked lawn in the pictures. As proof, I took a few artsy photos that proved the tipster right. […]
[Quinn’s spokeswoman, Brooke Anderson] told me that Gov. Quinn is a very good neighbor, but he’s been very busy finishing up the legislative session in Springfield.
Tending to the front lawn, Anderson said, is definitely “on his to-do list.”

Having promised to live at the Mansion, of course this kind of stuff would happen. But couldn’t he pay the kid down the street $10 a week to keep the grass cut or have one of those double-exempt IDOT workers swing by with their riding mower.

“To be honest, Governor Quinn’s lawn situation is at a crossroads; the 13 year old who does the cutting is negotiating for the $10 dollar an hour minimum, which the governor agrees.
However, the 13 year old is scared, like all minimum wage Illinois workers are, that Billionaire Bruce Rauner will roll back the minimum if elected, so it’s the years of the contract that is the holdup,” Brooke Anderson stated.

I remember some years back a TV news article squawking about state police doing yard work for a previous governor. As it turned out, they were bodyguards who were there anyway and mowed the lawn on their own initiative. Maybe Pat Quinn does not want to appear to take advantage of the state like that, and issued a “no mowing order” to reduce the state deficit. Next: He will walk from his house to his downtown office to save state gas money.

From Chicago park district:
With the reduction in use of chemical weed killers, dandelion flowers grow back quickly, often overnight. Therefore, the sight of dandelions indicates grass that is healthy and safe.

Timmy down the street demanded a raise, but Quinn stated he just doesn’t have the $10 extra to give. Timmy pointed out that his taxes are going to be lower next year and he’ll have extra cash. Negotiations are at a standstill, and sources indicate this to be the main reason behind Quinn pushing for extension of the tax rate. The Governor reportedly stated “I just don’t like that kid, and would rather give the $10 to Madigan.”

Section 7-28-120 of the Municipal Code of Chicago prohibits the average height of such weeds from being over 10 inches high. Hope a city inspector doesn’t come by!

In a blistering press release Rauner Spokesperson Mike Schrimpf takes on Governor Quinn.
“Quinnochio does it again” Just like his stand on taxes, Quinn has lied to his neighbors about keeping a tidy lawn. Secondly, Quinn intends to raise, raise, raise your taxes to get his dandelion problem under control.
Mr Rauner has a clear plan to fix this. We have no clue what that is, but we are dilligently working on it and intend to have it out some day.

As soon as he became aware of them, he took decisive action and began the process of eradicating them, not just from his yard but also from the larger community and the entire Land of Lincoln. “This is a hybrid,” Anderson began. “This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. “Northern California Sensemilia” - Funny, but technically, sensimilla is not a variety/strain of cannabis, it is a flowering female cannabis plant that does not have any seeds because it has not been pollinated by a male cannabis plant.
Also technically, to grow cannabis under the regulations of our trial medical marijuana program, you’ve got to have $2 million to back up your grow operation, have cameras on your plants with the video feed piped directly to your state district police office, and make sure all of your medical marijuana patients have been licensed, fingerprinted, and background checked.

Aha, even funnier now that I recognize the reference. Sorry to say, but yes, Spackler was wrong, although his lack of promotion probably had more to do with gophers and using explosives while stoned.
Next week the Illinois Policy Institute will release their study on just how much money and time it would cost before the kid down the street could legally mow the Governor’s lawn.
In a follow up study they will examine the penalties involved to the kid and the Governor if the kid doesn’t follow the rule of law before mowing the yard, if the kid happens to be an illegal immigrant, and if the Governor continues to ignore the Municipal Code of Chicago pertaining to lawns.

Governor Quinn? He would never neglect his responsibilities like this. Leaving his yard unattended? Allowing weeds to go to seed and blow all over the neighborhood? Making others take on an extra load because of his inaction? …..NAW! Doesn’t sound at all like him!
