* Mayor Rahm Emanuel on the decision to construct the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Chicago…
“George Lucas has revolutionized the art of storytelling over the last four decades and we are honored to be the recipient of this incredible legacy investment that will allow everyone to learn about and experience narrative arts. Like Marshall Field, John G. Shedd and Max Adler before him, George’s philanthropy will inspire and educate for generations. No other museum like this exists in the world, making it a tremendous educational, cultural and job creation asset for all Chicagoans, as well as an unparalleled draw for international tourists.”
* The Question: Can you come up with a more appropriately Chicagoesque name than the “Lucas Museum of Narrative Art”?

Or you could put it in the capitol in Springfield and use the subtitle, “May the Farce Be with You.”

As Cloudgate became popularly known as the Bean, so I think the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will be commonly referred to as the Star Wars Museum.

== No other museum like this exists in the world ==
Exactly. Because this sort of private collection typically comprises a display in a museum, not an entire museum.
It certainly won’t be on par with the Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum. It won’t have the same meaning as the Chicago Police Memorial. It won’t have the same economic impact as Soldier Field or McCormick Place.
Plus, placing a privately owned building like this on the proposed site violates the 1973 Lake Michigan and Chicago Lakefront Protection Ordinance. But hey, it’s Chicago, so let’s name the museum “Friends in High Places” or “An Ode to Influence”.

Just wondering, will Lucas’ name appear on the museum? Wouldn’t that violate the soon to be rushed thru ordinance that would ban tasteless, tacky names on buildings?

Not to sound sappy, but I really like both the proposed name and the general idea.
Both are 100% consistent with what made Chicago great.
People like Field didn’t just build companies. They gave back and their names went on museums.
The location of this place is wonderfully set among the other museums and the name is about as Chicago-esque as you can get.
If you are looking for something consistent with what Chicago has been at its best, this is it.
