Despite promises to conservative members of the Illinois House Republican Caucus, Republican Leader Jim Durkin on Monday selected state Rep. Ed Sullivan, Jr. (R-Mundelein) to the Illinois House Republican Leadership Team. Sullivan will take the spot left vacant by JoAnn Osmond who recently retired. […]
Sullivan was one of three Republicans in the House to vote for same-sex marriage.
* I had told subscribers about this Sullivan development several days ago and then again this morning. I hadn’t heard about any recent promises to conservatives, and so I checked around and didn’t find anything. I also asked Leader Durkin’s spokesperson for comment…
Upon taking the leadership post in the fall of 2013, Leader Durkin was asked if State Rep. Ed Sullivan would be on his new leadership team. The answer was no.
While Rep. Sullivan was not chosen for his initial leadership team, it was never directly asked or implied that Ed Sullivan never be appointed to leadership down the road. Ed Sullivan works very hard on behalf of the caucus and his talents will be utilized.
Sully has, indeed, worked very hard for that caucus and he most certainly deserved the promotion.
* AP…
Durkin says he can count on Sullivan to do “heavy lifting” during difficult situations.
Agreed.

Curious that a top-flight journal such as IR doesn’t quote any of the “conservatives” who Durkin allegedly broke promises to. Or Durkin, for that matter.
They just made it up.

Ed is a great guy. Just today, can’t people be happy for him? Tomorrow he can be terrible again if it must be.

Leader Durkin continues to go about his business and I am liking it very much.
Diversity in Caucus needs to begin with Leadership showing diverse opinions. Leadership positions in a Caucus need leaders, not lemmings.
Lemmings with blood oaths and litmus tests get the HGOP no closer to 60.
I look forward to Leader Durkin and his Leadership Team building and growing by being the example My Party needs in diversity.
Rep. Sullivan, big fan, congratulations, and I know whatever heavy lifting that needs to be done, your hard work will make the lift easier, for all.

a post - Tea Party era selection? Perhaps there really is hope for the Republican Party!

I’m sure IR thinks it should have been their heroine, Jeanne Ives. After all, she has passed all those bills, worked hard on behalf of the Party and candidates, raised money for others, and made a real impact in Springfield for her constituents by forging coalitions and getting the work done.
Oh, that’s right. Jeanne Ives hasn’t done any of that.
Good for Ed, and good for Jim Durkin.

First ever Hooters Habanero BBQ wing eating contest to decide leadership post.
Congrats Rep. Sullivan.

I think the IR does make stuff up. Or they call an office, receive no immediate answer and then run with a “tip”.

Given the pool of choices, this makes some sense. Gotta fill the pool if you want more choices.

Wonderful choice. Truly fine person.
Won the Horseshoe here for his help across the aisle and hard, effective work.
Durkin is proving strong.
Victimhood always get space on IR.

===Victimhood always get space on IR.===
There is not a conspiracy they didn’t embrace, or a Jeanne Ives for that matter.

Rep. Sullivan is already a leader within the House Republican caucus. It’s great that he will now receive recognition and compensation for his leadership.

Ed Sullivan is not a conservative?
That says more about the extreme views of IR than about Durkin or Ed.
Nice move by Durkin. With guys like Ed on the team, Durkin’s team can reach out more effectively to moderates.
I fully agree with Oswego Willy. Durkin is making the right moves. He is the first leader in a while that seems to want to grow the party, rather than just tell the ever shrinking “base” what they want to hear.
