* Reboot has posted several new We Ask America Polls. First up, US Senate…
Dick Durbin 53
Jim Oberweis 38
Undecided 9
A 15-point margin and an incumbent sitting at 53 looks tough to beat to me. We’ll see how things progress.
* Ditto for the AG’s race, although it’s obvious that Lisa Madigan is no longer the most popular politician in Illinois…
Lisa Madigan 52
Paul Schimpf 35
Undecided 13
* That most popular moniker solidly belongs to Secretary of State Jesse White, who apparently has a 30-point lead in his race. I’d tell you what the numbers are, but Reboot has absolutely the worst poll reporting ever. You gotta read and read and read to find the topline head to heads, and they never once mentioned it in the SoS poll story and they have the wrong graph on the page.
* And JBT holds on to her title as most popular Republican…
Judy Baar Topinka 51
Sheila Simon 32
Undecided 16
* A Republican friend tells me this is the third poll in a row she’s seen where Cross has at least a ten-point lead over Frerichs for state treasurer…
Tom Cross 45
Mike Frerichs 34
Undecided 21
From the Frerichs campaign…
“While Tom Cross is better known than Mike Frerichs on August 1st, we have the resources and gameplan to turn that around and show voters there’s a clear choice between a prepared and experienced finance official and a twenty year Springfield insider to be the next state Treasurer. Mike Frerichs has detailed plans to clean up the mess created by the current Republican Treasurer and when voters tune into the race in the Fall, we are confident they will choose what Mike has been talking about for over a year now; bringing competency and transparency to the Treasurers office while making wise investments to help build our economy from the middle out.”
Notice that they didn’t challenge the poll results.

The public might like his Ice Cream, but they sure don’t like Oberweis’ politics.

From the Simon campaign….
—————————————————
Sheila SIMON realizes Judy is better known that Sheila SIMON on August 1st, but Sheila SIMON is about to begin a statewide blitz to remind people that her name is Sheila SIMON and her data was PAUL SIMON and she enjoys the music of a different PAUL SIMON. Also she is going to wear a PAUL SIMON bow tie the rest of the way, did we mention her father was PAUL SIMON..

Frerichs is a “prepared and experienced financial official”? Dude didn’t even know what was in the state portfolio before he started attacking Rutherford. He is so far from prepared.

Yes. I think these polls are correct.

I suspect some Democrats would prefer that Oberweis be polling closer to Durbin.
The thought of Durbin potentially losing to Obie would be the one thing that could drive turnout for them this time.
If not, I’m just not sensing any real enthusiasm from them.

34% for Frerichs! Seriously? They must have polled his family a couple times.
And for his campaign to claim they will bring competency to office, yikes!

Tom Cross wants to be Treasurer like I want to work at Wal Mart. Way to early for down ballot races talk to me in September.

Treasurer’s office!
Jeez Louise!
Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Friday, Aug 1, 14 @ 11:43 am
I find it laughable that Frerichs’ campaign thinks their 1.3M will be able to get any traction in the noise generated by the 10s of millions spent by the gubernatorial candidates and that’s before factoring in the multi-million referendum campaigns and super PACs that will be weighing in. The only thing that money buys is “Hey, look at me, I’m running too!”.
Comment by fuzzy math Friday, Aug 1, 14 @ 11:48 am
Oh no they totally spelled Treasurer wrong again. It is really unbelievable, the guy went from being a strong contender for Treasurer and then his goal of Senate to having to worry about his State Senate seat in 2016.

It’s hard to poll a down-ballot race. I think we all agree this will be much closer than this poll states. But holy cow they can’t even send out a simple press release correctly…
I’m surprised OW, hasn’t commented on this poll yet, but I’ll try to fill the void

Although Cross has better name recognition, I think party helps Frerichs more than the poll is revealing. All the others, I suspect are fairly accurate
Comment by Wumpus Friday, Aug 1, 14 @ 12:50 pm
how can anyone feel confident investing in Frerichs campaign at this point?
Comment by Barney Friday, Aug 1, 14 @ 12:53 pm
Grammar and punctuation are not their strong suits.
Comment by LincolnLounger Friday, Aug 1, 14 @ 2:22 pm
While grammar is not a strong suit for Frerichs compared to the rest of the campaign it is one of their better suits.
Comment by the Frisco kid Friday, Aug 1, 14 @ 3:05 pm
I think election day will show Durbin, Madigan, and Topinka with wider winning spreads than these polls, and I suspect Cross’s winning margin will be somewhat less than this poll number

Anyone know what this means? I’m at a loss.
