* The Tribune previews Republican Day…
Rauner and other Republicans first will meet at a downtown Springfield hotel, where party leaders from around the state will hear out the candidates up and down the ballot.
They then will hold a noon rally at the fairgrounds — one expected to be peppered with political speeches from would-be officeholders and longtime veterans, such as Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka, who is seeking re-election.
The fairground event is billed as more of a true rally in the traditional sense rather than the family-styled format with picnic and performers that Quinn has adopted. The governor made the change from the traditional platform for old-fashioned stem winders on an outdoor stage following a run-in two years ago. Union workers booed him off the stage over a contract dispute.
* While yesterday’s Director’s Lawn event was indeed billed as a light, family-oriented festival, it contained lots of elements of the rallies of old, including several fiery speeches and a stage appearance by “Baron von Moneybags”…
Oy.
* On a somewhat lighter note, Rauner’s cartoon characters didn’t really know how to react after the rally when Quinn’s cartoon character approached them…

Too bad moneybags didn’t sing a little longer. Right at the end of the clip it looked as though he was going to join in. Now that would have been rich. And probably Quinnocio’s last day.

I got a small chuckle out of the Quinnochio cartoon. Why not? The Baron dude had his arm around Quinnochio, which is more friendly than some of the attacks out there.

Not of a fan of the goofy characters, except at their own partisan rally. Good to feed red meat to the partisans. Moneybags ok for Dem rally, Quinnochio bad. Quinnochio ok for Rep rally, not so for Moneybags.
Yesterday, Moneybags was great in his efforts to overshadow the goofy Raunerboys. Evidently, the Quinn goofy character section was better planned than the Raunervich’s opposite number. It would have been better if the Raunervich goofy people stayed home yesterday.
We’ll see if Quinn’s folks are smart enough to keep Moneybags home today. Rauner’s people are often late to the show, but they will be primed and ready should there be a reprise of yesterday’s joint appearance.

This had the potential to be cute, but alas, no one on that side rehearses any more. The Moneybags dude and the Quinn T-Shirt dude look like they’re fighting over the mike. Kinda awkward.

If we’re going to see characters, I’d rather see a Rauner character dressed in a Carhartt and wearing a cheap watch than a billionaire dude from monopoly.
I have nothing against wealthy people, only people who pretend they’re “everyday” people, while they are removed from the catastrophe that happens in their businesses, or people who say they’re “hands-on” while not knowing what’s going on in their companies.
This also applies to very wealthy people who cry class warfare but who are waging it themselves, by demonizing thousands of middle class public workers.
Slamming people for their wealth is just as discriminatory as anything else. I respond in kind when the very wealthy attack and demonize others. If they didn’t do it, I don’t think we’d see the level of rancor from the other side.

Interesting to see the apparent Rauner campaign staff on this site claiming for the last week that Quinn was afraid to hold an event at the fair, and had retreated to the Crown Plaza. Wrong. As usual the Quinn event was at the fairgrounds, and as usual the County/Township Dems breakfast was at the hotel.
