* From the US Chamber…
Good morning,
The U.S. Chamber is partnering with the Illinois Chamber of Commerce to launch its second ad in the tenth congressional district in support of Bob Dold. The ad highlights the difference between Bob Dold and Brad Schnieder on pro-growth issues. While Dold has outlined solutions to boost job creation by lowering taxes and reducing regulations, Schneider has stood in the way of free enterprise, voting with his party 90% of the time. The ad can be viewed here.
Thank you,
Blair

Executive Director of Media Relations
U.S. Chamber of Commerce
* The ad…
* Script…
Is anyone in Washington right 90 percent of the time?
Brad Schneider says he’s an independent voice, but votes with party leaders like Nancy Pelosi 90 percent of the time.
Have those votes lowered your taxes, created jobs or reduced regulations?
You deserve leaders who will promote economic freedom and job growth. Isn’t it time?
Bob Dold, an independent voice for hard-working Illinois taxpayers.
*** UPDATE *** From the Schneider campaign…
Rep. Schneider has stood up to the Tea Party to protect seniors from attacks on Medicare, defend women’s access to critical health care services and preserve Lake Michigan–that’s in stark contrast to Bob Dold, who was a reliable Republican vote in Congress, voting 28 times to repeal or dismantle Obamacare, voting twice for the Ryan Budget to end the Medicare guarantee, voting to defund Planned Parenthood and allow drilling for oil in Lake Michigan.

“D”
What is it I hear all the time?
“It’s a North Shore thing”
Give me the couple painting again. That is the district sweet spot. Then turn that “North Shore” thing Ad to a plus for Dold.
Very ineffective for the target.

I’d give it a solid B. They love independence in that district, and Schneider certainly isn’t that. The line about “Has it lowered your taxes . . .” was solid.
It’s early, and I think this ad is doing exactly what it needs to do at this point. I presume the campaign’s media consultants will adequately capture the unique “North Shore” flavor.

It is a good ad because it tell viewers what when it comes to jobs and taxes, Dold is an independent voice from Nancy Pelosi.
Jobs
Our taxes.
Those are the issues that voters want to hear a candidate discuss. Not the Caymans or someone else’s houses.
Pelosi polls extremely bad and the President is intentionally left off this ad since it is running in his home state in a swing district. But Pelosi is an albatross to string around anyone’s neck, which this ad does.
The graphics are good as well.
It is a B.

I always chuckle when an attack ad sources some type of high percentage of voting with the party, as if every vote is highly partisan. I’m sure the largest chunk of that 90% is renaming post offices.

I’m more curious about the wording of the press release: the proof that Schneider is bad for the economy is that he votes with Democrats?
The underlying assumption is that Democrats are bad for the economy. Now maybe partisans buy into this, but do independents believe it?
For the record, the US economy consistently performs better under Democratic Presidents and under Republican Presidents, including the Reagan Presidency. So reality doesn’t help their argument much either.

If you really want to break down the ad what is il-10 specific and the focus here is the term independent and the the pictures of the women/seniors/kid. They’re going for ticket splitters (obama isn’t pictured the way they would do it in other districts because his numbers aren’t bad there) and trying to ding schneiders business credentials.
For my money the term regulation doesn’t help-il 10 has a lot of people who work for bigger companies or in professional services who aren’t really hurt by them-unless they see it as code for obamacare. They could have found a less popular bogeyman-I would have gone with quinn and I would have placed more emphasis on schneiders anti-business record hurting families since it’s a suburban district.
And again not his wife or child which is odd because that’s a family type picture judging by how close they’re holding each other.
Better than most dc advertising-they cleary got the memo with the focus on independence and women but lacks the home run swing the chamber has had this year in other races like mssen- solid B.

I don’t think data supports lower taxes meaning more growth, in fact the opposite is probably more true. I also think you would find the stock market preforms better under democratic control than republican.

Anybody who wants to go out in the 10th district and try and sell this economy, have at it. People do not think the economy has “turned the corner”, no matter how much Quinn and the DCCC may wish it so.
The “economy performs better under Dems” stuff could be debated a hundred different ways, but, again, go sell this economy. The “wrong track” numbers tell you what you need to know, and the history lessons will be saved for insider baseball types on blogs.

It’s interesting that Dold is being touted for being more effective in job growth and lowering taxes. He moved his portion of his family run business to Wisconsin to lower the costs of doing business in IL. Using the business model of his family’s company, his campaign staff were labeled as “independent contractors” so Dold didn’t make the standard tax deductions, giving his workers the impression that they were being paid more but leaving the tax burden on them to deal with after the campaign. During his 2010 run he claimed a homeowner’s exemption tax for his home in Chicago while running in Kenilworth from a home owned by his parents, so he could claim he resided in the district. None of this is illegal but it isn’s worker, district or IL friendly, is it?
Independent? That’s the misnomer candidates on the north shore give to themselves to cloak themselves in a pseudo-moderate cloth while operating in lockstep with their parties. Both sides use the 90% accusation with aplomb. It’s all about the gerrymander, making the district more competitive for Democrats and Dold, two suburbs outside of the Tenth district, can’t rely on Kenilworth or Winnetka conservatives for votes this time and it’s why he lost in 2012.
How often does the COC ever endorse a Democrat? Are these cookie cutter ads effective?
Also, great catch on the video wife and child that isn’t Dold’s! What’s that about?

Dold’s major problem here is that in the 2010 Primary he ran way to the right, with Tea Party support (they flew in a planeload of fanatics to trash his opponents). He can’t hide from this by pretending now to be a moderate. I really think this cost him the election in 2012. Lake County moderates remember.

Has the Pelosi tie in ever worked?

You stay classy Willy. The picture you refer to includes Bob’s sister and is part of a larger family photo he’s used in past campaigns. Remember, the Chamber can’t get pix from the campaign because that would be coordination so they have to use what’s already out there.
Count on the bottom-feeders to try and kick up some dirt when their worthless sock puppet Brad is tanking (with big help from Pat “the human anchor” Quinn from what I hear.

== Lake County moderates remember.==
Yes and lake county moderates also remember Brad Schneider promised to be a moderate and to represent the district not just his party. 10th district Democrats lean right on some issues and 10th district Republicans lean leftish on some issues. The candidate who “gets” that and acts accordingly wins and stays in Washington more than one term. The candidate who pretends he gets it and doesn’t– doesn’t stay.

Oh, the ad. I think it’s a better than OK message for the district and B worthy. But that announcer woman’s voice quality and her strange diction is grating and annoying. They need to re-voice it.

Willy, I must apologize. I mistook your comment for that written by “Shore” immediately prior which obviously tried to imply some sort of domestic controversy in the commercial. Your comments were not a cheap shot…just wrong. Snark.
