* From the twitters…
Staff w @Callis4Illinois manhandles students at @SIUE - and Ann Callis laughs about it afterward! #IL13 #twill http://t.co/LLbO1jA9N4
— IL Republican Party (@ilgop) August 25, 2014
* I’ve seen plenty of “manhandling” in my day, and this doesn’t look like manhandling to my eyes. A few protesters tried to drown out a Callis speech and they were escorted away…
Much of Callis’ speech on the SIUE quad was drowned out by a handful of protesters who shouted “Clueless Callis!” over her. Both Callis and Durbin said they recognized the protesters’ First Amendment right to speak. “I would have expected a little courtesy,” Durbin said. Callis said it was the first time this kind of counter-protest had happened.
* Watch…
This allegation is from the same state party which defends using armed private detectives to allegedly intimidate Libertarian Party petition signers and gatherers.
Please.

Let’s not forget that Callis and the students attending her event also have a 1st Amendment right to engage in political speech. It seems like all their doing is mindless name calling and making noise. They might as well have used an air horn to try to drown out Callis’ protected political speech. We should not tolerate this type of bullying on campus.

Cool it guys! The Big Ten is watching everything that happens at SIUE.

It’d be nice if at least some of the political operatives - professional and otherwise - came to their senses. Voters, especially those on the fence, are not at all attracted to such foolishness as repetitive “clueless” chants, “Quinnocchio” appearances, etc. The voters I know are repulsed and repelled by such childishness.

Juvenile and stupid actions by the protestors. Grow up.

Capt Fax please…it is the GOPie Armed Ballot Security Rentals.
And as we were told they needed firearms because they were chasing down Libertarians in “bad areas” bet those neighbors loved being tagged with that.

The way I look at it is that almost all the people who show up at a Callis rally are interested in hearing what she has to say. I think the vast majority of people there would like to be able to hear the speaker talk without someone walking around yelling. When I was a kid, my mother taught me not to talk and interrupt others while they are talking. Individuals who walk around at campaign rallies yelling are doing nothing more than engaging in rude behavior. If he doesn’t like Callis he can express himself on election day by voting against her. This is much ado about nothing. It’s not like the guy was roughed up or anything.

Well, there was a man. There was a hand. But that’s about it. Completely agree with Linus. All of these things are idiotic distractions that voters hate.

=Callis said it was the first time this kind of counter-protest had happened.=
It’s the first time Callis has had to actually campaign for an elective office in her life! Hmmm! Republicans candidates have never encountered this on a university campus? Please!

Callis is not the best candidate running.
Even so, both her right to speak and the students’ are equal. They should have let her speak after they did their chant a few times, and that way no one has to worry about “manhandling” anyone or being “manhandled”.

Typical frat antics from the college Republicans. They are much more comfortable when women are serving beers than in Congress, and will fit right in with their brethren when they run for office in ten years.

Disrupting an event isn’t a smart way to get your message across. It just makes you look juvenile.

Can some of you please stop being victims. Please. Pretty please.

This was hardly manhandling. What a lame allegation - but then, it is SIUE. If Evelyn had been there and slipped…well.

Shoutdown tactics are bush league. “Manhandled” is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

Clueless Callis? Is the Davis campaign seriously trying to compare Callis to the ditzy blonde teenager in the movie clueless? That type of misogyny might backfire a bit. She’s a freakin’ 18 year chief judge, I don’t think she deserves to be called a dumb blonde by the Davis campaign.
