* From Congressman Brad Schneider’s campaign…
FIRST
Karl Rove dumped $640,000 on Chicagoland T.V. to smear Brad’s progressive record.
THEN
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched another HALF-MILLION dollar ad blitz against Brad.
NOW
Moments ago, we learned Republican Bob Dold is piling on with an ad buy of his own.
You do the Math.
If we don’t have the resources to fight back against the onslaught of Republican attacks, Democrats could lose the 10th district for a decade.
There’s nothing on Dold’s YouTube page yet, and we’ve already discussed the US Chamber ad, but Rove finally posted his anti-Schneider ad…
Rate it.

Maybe if you’re making policy that has this much of a blitz to it, you should lose the 10th district?
These ads should reinforce his base. Why would he need to counter the attacks… unless it’s a gerrymander’d district and the 10th isn’t really populated with progressive Democrats?
Not good for Brad.

Obamacare is toxic enough for it to make a difference in this congressional race.
This is why these kinds of ads work.
1. They are pitched to all voters.
2. They ask all voters to contact their congressman.
3. They offer a solution to the problem, which includes the targeted congressman.
4. These ads are not personal attacks, they are attacks on a congressman’s policy stands on an issue.
5. They target one issue and let’s viewers understand that the targeted congressman can change their position by taking a specific action.
Grade: B
Now- it would be nice if we could just avoid the insults and straw man attacks against the group buying the ad time, and the individual leading this group. It would be really nice to read other opinions which address the Obamacare issue in this congressional district.

the guy is in a district gerrymandered to his benefit Republican candidates for president haven’t won in the internet age. not much to complain about.

I don’t think attacking Obamacare will win over the independents in the district. I guess they polled on the issue, but I think more and more people are beginning to accept (and not fear) Obamacare.

I don’t think GOP House candidates should bring up Medicare. When they do, they step on it eventually.
Surprised Rove is raising money after his washout last cycle. Why him? There are others to contribute to.

This is not a winning message among independents in the district. There are better ways for Dold to attack Schneider.
Clear evidence these national PAC ads are not coordinated with local campaigns.

Now if Dold could promise to “Freeze Your Property Taxes” he’d win in a landslide, (and have abut as much likelihood of fulfilling that promise.)

WoW. Their is no crying in politics. Madigan gives him a district drawn just for him and he is crying that he cant defend it. Not sure he is the right man to lead if he cant raise money in Blue Illinois

This is an ad urging him to repeal ObamaCare, but really doesn’t speak against his re-election. Not an effective political ad IMHO.

Walk, I disagree a bit. This district has a lot of seniors, former and active military, etc. It’s a direct hit on policy. They are accentuating that the administration and everyone who supported them were consciously untruthful about the details of the ACA. That rankles seniors and parents with kids turning 27. Someone above stated people are getting comfortable with “Obamacare”. I have experienced just the opposite. The people I’ve spoken with say regularly that they are being forced to accept bad policy.
The ad is a pass. It’s not incendiary and it hits a target audience smack dab in the middle of a sweet spot.

One of Schneider’s problems is that a lot of 10th District voters think Dold is still their congressman-Brad has been pretty low key the last two years almost like a ghost

This is a very good ad. Reminding many voters in Schneider’s district that ObamaCare is costing them more money. Many voters in Schneider’s district had cheaper and better health care policies before ObamaCare.

Have you been impacted by the ACA? Because neither myself nor anybody I know has been affected by it. It’s my opinion that the negatives against the ACA have more to do with the very successful PR campaign against it by the Republicans rather than the program itself. The White House lost this PR battle a long time ago and the views of the “public” indicate that.
That said, I think the ACA isn’t a very strong argument here. I’m not sure Karl Rove has a good grasp on the politics in Illinois. It seems he isn’t spending his PAC’s money very wisely in this state.

We will find out if the money was well spent come election time.

It starts with Obamacare costs too much, and talks about repeal of obamacare. This is a very blue progressive district. They should not have even mentioned obamacare. They should have stuck with the cuts to medicare.
As soon as Obamacare is mentioned the people who support the law will tune out and miss the message.
I give it a C+
