*** UPDATE *** As noted above, Marleen Suarez has now produced evidence which indicates that her ad is, indeed factual. Click here to read her response and see her evidence.
Remember that brutal campaign video I posted a month ago about the Madison County Treasurer’s race? The ad, by Democrat Marleen Suarez, alleged that all sorts of bad things were discovered at Republican incumbent Kurt Prenzler’s daycare center, including “rat droppings and roaches.”
Well, Suarez’s campaign is at it again, but this time they’ve missed the mark, to say the least. Watch…
Oof.
* But the allegations don’t appear to be true.
A Google search for the phrase “Meanwhile, there is sex in the barracks and the U.S. Navy has transformed itself into a floating brothel” turned up a cached result of a deleted comment on the Madison County Treasurer’s Facebook page.
That comment appears to have been written by somebody named Edward Hartmann, not Prenzler. Here’s a screen capture…
Oops.
Amazingly enough, Prenzler doesn’t appear to have responded. Also, keep in mind that we’re talking Madison County here, perhaps best known nationally for its lawsuits. Stay tuned.

A little research goes a long way. Thanks Rich.

It appears to be untrue based on the facts you presented. It sure took her a long time to perpetuate the lie in this commercial. When you have on the guy what she had, this is silly. This is how you lose races you should win. Earned media will be this guy’s friend if he gets a clear and clean statement out. Wonder what he’s waiting for?

After watching it again, this is really, really low. Even for Illinois politics.
An apology is in order.

Anyone familiar with what’s happened in the Madison County Treasurer’s office knows that the Madison County Dems are desperate and will do anything to get rid of Prenzler. He came in an immediately exposed a massive corruption scandal that sent his predecessor, Fred Bathon (Democrat) to federal prison. Prenzler cut the office’s budget by 30%, reformed the tax auction and restructured the county’s investment portfolio, investing heavily in local banks. He also ended the practice of accepting any campaign donations from any vendors who do business with his office (while all of the elected Democrats continue this practice). Prenzler is unconventional and quirky, but he seems to be an honest guy. I’m sure the personal attacks will continue against him.

My dad asks me from time to time, how I can be involved in politics with all the stuff that goes on…
These are the things that remind me he has a point…

Ahhh….so nice to watch this mess from afar!
And Prenzler called out his opponent’s family (surprisingly, in politics!) in St. Clair County as well…

His opponent’s “family” just happens to be the St. Clair County Treasurer, who has supposedly been running tax auctions eerily similar to the ones that Fred Bathon (now in prison) was running in Madison County.

Frank Miles reformed the tax auction. KP did “restructure” the county’s investments, but it cost the county over a million dollars in interest income. http://www.thetelegraph.com/news/news/928460/Auditor:-Madison-County-investments-on-the-decline

The article in question can easily be found by going into the Post-Dispatch’s online archive. It is CapFax who missed the mark, not Suarez

Anonymous: The same Frank Miles who took over $20,000 in contributions from tax buyers who have either been indicted or are now in prison? Isn’t Prenzler the one who moved the auction to an automated system and dropped the interest rates from 18% down to less than 2%?

I guess they weren’t my comments after all, huh?

Frustrated Voter asked the question. “Isn’t Prenzler the one who moved the auction to an automated system and dropped the interest rates from 18% down to less than 2%?” No he did not. Frank Miles reformed the auction in 2010 before KP was elected. Here’s link.
