* Bruce Rauner was asked yesterday about our post on controversial, possibly racial remarks made by the Illinois Policy Institute’s John Tillman in 2011 while Rauner sat at the same dais. From the Tribune…
Tillman argued that youths on the South and West Sides are hurt by a high minimum wage that keep employers from being able to offer them jobs.
“So those kids keep walking, and they walk, and they get to the corner. And what do they find on the corner? They find a member of the gang offering them a job to be a drug runner. Is that the choice we want to make?” said Tillman, whose group advocates eliminating the minimum wage.
Quinn’s campaign sent out Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle on the governor’s behalf, and she called the comments “100 percent wrong and offensive to those of us who have worked to stem the tide of violence and drugs in our communities.”
Rauner refused to answer questions about Tillman’s comments during his education event. A spokesman later said Rauner “does not believe the minimum wage leads to gang membership.” The policy institute said criticism was a desperate political attack.

It doesn’t look good for Bruce on this issue. Having the government determine wages does lead to more unemployed people. The video down below has all the recent evidence on the situation.

yeah, yeah. Isn’t this the group that Rauner gave $500K to? This group and the tea parties that they direct helped Rauner in the primary. Gimme a break.

Rauner should learn quickly that Tillman is toxic. He may say a lot of things that you believe, but he will eventually burn you because he is an overly enthusiastic zealot.

Tillman the scholar deals in stereotypes to please his paymasters.
But the facts are 77% of minimum wage workers are white (a full half are white women), and only 24% are teens.

Davis-Bacon (prevailing wage) and similar legislation was intended to and did prevent minority workers from competing with white workers. My first job (minimum wage in a union shop no less) was bagging groceries and carrying them out to cars. Now you can go to UltraFoods or Aldi and bag them yourself, or Jewel and use the auto checkout.

Right, like before the minimum wage, when blacks worked for high wages on southern plantations. We must remember the great wages and benefits paid on plantations before guv’mint stepped in to provide a wage floor.
