* From a press release…
Today, the Bost for Congress campaign announced a recent poll that shows Illinois 12th Congressional District candidate Mike Bost continues to maintain his lead over incumbent Beltway Bill Enyart.
Key Findings from Polling:
Mike Bost has a +4 point lead over Democratic incumbent Congressman Bill Enyart.
43 percent of district voters indicate that they would vote for Bost, 39 percent would vote for Enyart, 7 percent are voting for Green Party candidate Paula Bradshaw, and 11 percent are undecided.
Bost continues his months-long polling lead. Throughout the race, Enyart has never lead in polling.
“Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama have spent millions trying to gloss over Bill Enyart’s disastrous record and it’s not working,” said Bost Campaign spokesman Jim Forbes. “This poll is just more proof that Beltway Bill Enyart and his Washington, D.C. cronies don’t understand what’s important in Southern Illinois. Voters would rather have Illinois authenticity than beltway talking points.”
The poll was conducted by the Tarrance Group, a nationally-recognized and widely-respected polling organization.
That Greenie may be hurting Enyart as much as Pat Quinn.
But notice no date is given for when the poll was taken. This release may be due to some nervousness about the new Enyart/DCCC “rant” ads.
…Adding… The Bost campaign says the poll was conducted Sept. 16-18.
* Meanwhile, the NRCC has a new TV ad in the district…
“Congressman Bill Enyart went to Washington and let Southern Illinois families down. Instead of fighting for them, he has sided with Nancy Pelosi to support Obamacare while voting to give himself taxpayer-funded perks. It’s time for new leadership in Washington and Mike Bost is just that. Bost has fought for this community for years and will continue that fight in Congress.” – Katie Prill, NRCC Spokeswoman
* The ad…
* Script…
ANNCR: Bill Enyart claims he’s for us, but his votes tell a different story.
Enyart backed a plan that gives Congressmen taxpayer funded perks and special benefits.
Bill Illinois families got higher premiums and layoffs.
Bill Enyart let us down.
Mike Bost is different. He runs a small business, opposes Obamacare because we need lower premiums and more jobs.
Change Washington with Mike Bost.

If the poll didn’t have Bost up, he would have tossed it…
To the Ad,
“C-”, just below Gentleman’s “C”.
Not enough time for more tired buzz words? Yikes.

Is Nancy Pelosi really a “thing” in helping to drive the undecided into Bost’s camp, or is that just a DC knucklehead going through the motions?
Comment by wordslinger Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 10:53 am
In light of the DCCC “rant” ad, the grade for this one is “See me after class!”

Could be true. It would help explain the sudden uptick in ads focusing on the “rant”.
Enyart is behind, knows he is behind, and they are going “all-in” on the “rant” in hopes that might close the gap. Maybe.

Wow, what a lame mail-it-in ad by the NRCC. And the spokeswoman’s comments read like she just edited “southern Illinois” and changed the names of the candidates from any of three dozen or so other NRCC press releases.
Nothing unique to the district. Simple boiler-plate. It’s something I suppose, but a missed opportunity due to laziness if you ask me.
Comment by 47th Ward Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 10:54 am
The national Dems focused better locally than the national Repubs, when designing their ads. This is just general talking points, used everywhere.

With the Callis race down the tubes, the Enyart race becomes critical to the Democrats. This district goes to Bost and it could remain Republican for years.
Comment by Apocalypse Now Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 11:00 am
I live in the district. Spend a bunch of time talking to people who “used” to be Democrats. This poll is spot on. understated even.

I’d be interested to know when the polling was done and what impact, if any, the recent ads have had.
I can see a four-point lead right now, but I wouldn’t call it over for Enyart yet.

wow Boss Toss can only cook up a 4 point poll lead?…He is really in trouble…That sounds like bad times for Mitt Aiken Rauner and ChopperJim in this downstate area.

Agree completely with 47th Ward.

The “Obamacare is going to destroy the country” meme may appeal to the willfully ignorant, but I doubt it’s gonna change any Democrat votes or be a deciding factor for independents. Bost needs big right-wing turnout in the Deep South, but that still won’t overcome the Democratic strength of the Metro-East area. Enyart wins this one, and probably by a pretty good margin.
Comment by Deep South Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 11:42 am
Poll done the last couple of days. After the rant ad ran for 2 weeks and Bost’s response only ran for a few days. All those that think Bost is going to lose this one, even “by a pretty good margin” are apparently ignorant of the sentiment in the district. Enyart can’t even get a large union crowd at a fundraiser where a union boss appears. You think they are going to turn out and vote for him? People that won’t vote for Bost won’t like the ad, but the general public gets the anger. Especially since the Post Dispatch, BND and others are taking the opportunity to give the back story. Bost doesn’t yell indiscriminately. He yelled when he was unable to stick up for his constituents. The more stories that run with that explanation, the more Bost’s numbers will climb. The editorial in the BND yesterday says it all. The democratic stranglehold on that seat is about up. And Southern Illinois will be better off because of it.

Enyart has had tremendous crowds at his events and Bost is barely seen in the district. If the best phony poll that Bost can put up is that is only ahead by 4% with 11% undecided, then he has already lost. This race is definitely no longer a toss.
Comment by StraightOuttaCobden Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 12:24 pm
It was a rant/scream that brought down Howard Dean. I wouldn’t put this one away too quickly.
Comment by Observing Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 12:24 pm
Did Bost’s pollster tell him he was up 4 points before or after Mike yelled at him?
Comment by Carl Nyberg Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 12:24 pm
Aren’t health premiums going down in places for the first time in decades?
You know how Bruce Rauner is lying to you when he says he’s a regular guy?
Mike Bost and the GOP are lying to you about Obamacare too. They lie to you because they think you’re too ignorant to notice.
Comment by Carl Nyberg Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 12:27 pm
===Enyart has had tremendous crowds===
Means little.
===phony poll ===
I seriously doubt that the Tarrance Group would concoct a poll out of thin air.
Calm down, people.

Up by four points isn’t really a huge lead to be boasting about. This race is certainly going to be an exciting one.
Comment by Bryan Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 12:58 pm
An incumbent Congressman is down by 4 points and…
some people spin that as a good thing for the Congressman?
This race may go either way, but silly season is officially underway.
Comment by Formerly Known As... Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 1:06 pm
Funny to see both sides’ partisans out demonstrating this season’s latest in fashionable blinders…

Reality is Enyart was supposed to lose last time. He won by walking into an incredibly goofy young opponent and convincing voters he is a Southern IL conservative.
Love him or hate him, Bost is not some goofy rookie, and the record speaks for itself. Enyart is a hold the line Obama-Pelosi Liberal. Some people think that is ok, but Bost is betting a majority of the voters in this district disagree. This poll just reflects that reality.
Comment by the Patriot Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 1:12 pm
The poll shows a 4 POINT DIFFERENCE, which in polling terms is basically a tie with chance of error considered. What this tells us is what everyone already knew. This race is going to be very, very close.
Comment by Cal Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 1:20 pm
It’s a nice standard image ad. Safe pass. The kind you run when a poll tells you you’re up. And you are.
Comment by A guy... Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 1:21 pm
It is not a good ad, but I do believe Bost is ahead right now.

National Dems must be happy NRCC is wasting funds in that district.

“Bost is barely seen in the district.”
That’s definitely the first time I’ve heard anyone say that. If you follow his social media streams, you’ll see him absolutely everywhere in the district. In contrast, if you follow Enyart’s, you will see him barely anywhere. The sentiment all over the district is that Enyart is barely seen, and hasn’t been since he was elected.
Comment by Anon Friday, Sep 19, 14 @ 2:54 pm
Just remember that this election includes E. St. Louis (with their own election board, of course) and that there are always a couple of more votes at the bottom of each election box. Just because more people vote than actually live in the city…No Problem.
Just because we have 27 registered voters in one 900 sq ft house…No Problem.
