* The SJ-R’s editorial board interview of Gov. Pat Quinn was posted yesterday and only has 18 views as I write this. It does take awhile sometimes for YouTube’s counts to catch up to actual view counts, but let’s run that way up today because I’m sure there must be something of interest. I’m seven minutes in and they haven’t stopped the filibustering and asked a question. The biggest mistake in journalism is letting Pat Quinn making an opening, stream-of-consciousness statement.

At about 32 min., Pat pivots a question about governors flying to his attendance at military funerals and responding to natural disasters.
Not terribly significant, but it sure highlights how badly Rauner fumbled that NFL/domestic violence question.

Wow… I would rather chew my arm off. Quinn is no different than the Blago administration. I have worked for them both. I can tell you that the 20 year olds that he has hired are not any smarter.

It’s pretty much what you would expect…. 30 mins in and what I’ve found so far is that it appears that Pat Quinn has lost a little weight.

It might be fun to see Anita Alvarez and Joe Berrios go after Bruce Rauner for claiming exemptions on two of the multi-million dollar homes that he owns in Cook County.

Fact after fact after fact, with some rational arguments, and numbers that add up. Good pivots off of potentially embarrassing topics. Command of the realities of state government make Rauner look foolish by comparison.
On the other hand: tedious, boring, schoolmarmish, lacking in leadership, little excitement, no charisma. Makes Rauner look like Jack Kennedy by comparison — and that’s quite a feat.
Do we want the steak and potatoes or the fine wine?
A pleasure to hear very well-informed questions from reporters. Rauner might have had some problems with this crew.

So far the time that stuck with me was his wanting to follow the IL Constitution on property taxes when he didn’t follow it on the pensions
When asked about a progressive income tax, noted it required a constitutional amendment and the pitched the progression starting at a million
Pretty much passed the buck on IDOT hiring
Was honest about the need to keep the income tax at 5% with some targeted changes (such as an increased Earned Income Credit) to properly fund State programs. Kept linking extending the income tax with avoiding future school cuts. Repeated the $500 property tax “refund”.
Was fairly critical of Rauner’s tax plans or lack thereof. Did a good job of criticizing it in a low key, factual manner.
Alluded to a capital spending proposal to be introduced in November session.
Seemed to be well informed on the GTRC nursing home case(s) in Florida. Made a couple of good points in a low key manner.
In response to a question, spent quite some time on the Illiana. Then pivoted to talking about business growth opportunities in central Illinois.
Was also good at coming back to maintaining the current tax envirionment to keep school funding. One thing Quinn in campaign mode is good at is staying on message.
Appeared knowledgable about Maner’s education bill. Had some problems with it but sounded like he was open to it with some modifications.

Couldn’t stomach the whole thing. He has his note card talking points ready for the “interview”. The accidental governor. Not worth whatever he’s being paid.

Rauner could do it. You don’t need notes when your primary goal is trying not to say anything beyond vague generalities.
Rauner can BS smoothly and unhesitatingly without notes and never miss a beat.

As if he’ll even appear before the SJ-R editorial board. His staff stonewalled their editorial page and then Rauner acted like he’d never received the request when Bernie asked him about it.

I’ve only sat through one Rauner presentation. Yes, he was good when on script and when fed softball questions. But hit him with something hard or unexpected and that is a whole different story … Bruce gets easily rattled.
In this video Quinn was hit with several good questions and Pat was very good at both answering the question and then using it for a springboard to his talking points.
