* We had so many site outages last week, mainly from crushing traffic, that my hosting company recommended some changes. Here’s what they did…
We installed a front-end proxy server called Varnish. It should help with your database load by caching static pages, lowering the amount of database queries your SQL server has to process.
Whatever that is, I hope it works.
Just thought you’d like to know.

They should have put foil on the rabbit ears. That always worked for me.

And your proxy server’s front end is now nice and shiny.

It’s all G(r)eek to me. As long it does whatever they say it will do to keep your database caching and querying.

Varnish??? That should go nicely with the shellacking Quinn’s going to get next week.

I’ll cancel the order with ALCOA for more foil. Probably face a restocking fee from a minimum wage work force.

Perhaps you could offer web providers the capacity to “test their ability” as it relates to traffic volumes that go from Zero to Sixty instantaneously … ??

I came here to make a joke about shellacking, but Gantt Chart beat me and so I will retreat in shame.

Works for me…

Rich, that should make a difference in the load the back-end server has to carry. Kind of surprised your hosting site wasn’t already doing that since it’s a relatively cheap way to handle higher volumes if part of the data is unchanging.

It might be helpful if you post a message about the site being down on your twitter page etc. the next time the site is down for an extended time.
