  1. My husband, daughter and I just voted. Lots of people at the polls today for an off year election.

  2. Voted about 15 minutes ago had 200 voters in my Decatur precinct which is above average for an off year election.stuck by my guns and didn’t vote for either major candidate for governor. Proudly voted for my favorite write in candidate instead Oswego Willy!

  3. Just checked in where I vote and it includes three precincts in South-Central Illinois. Judges told me they are having a heavier than normal turnout and have been busy all morning. This is Republican Country but also home to a lot of prison workers and IDOT workers. Should be interesting to see if Rauner is running up a huge total or if state workers are coming out and voting for Quinn.

  5. Really nice steady flow in South Surbs.

  6. Mrs. 47th Ward just voted. Turnout is holding strong in our precinct so far. Signs but no passers, most judges have things under control by now. Now comes the longest part of the day, waiting for the 5-7 pm rush. Time to hit the doors of plusses that haven’t voted. You never leave a voter off the hook. If you went to all the trouble to ID them, you better darn well make sure they come out and vote.

Get on it. It’s not raining yet.

    Comment by 47th Ward Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:20 pm

  7. My wife is an election judge. I brought Lil Sleep to visit and bring lunch. They already had 500 voters before 11:30. Granted - there are three precincts at that location, but 500 in my section of Springfield is pretty good.

Comment by Team Sleep Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:23 pm

  8. Very heavy turnout in the highly contested 75th district. Anthony campaign…. was so worried about the Shugart surge he actually contacted the Minooka school district to get teenagers to run his phone bank….the shocker is 25 students were given the day off of school to phone bank…call the district they will verify. Just another blunder in his failed campaign.

    Comment by 75th district Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:28 pm

  9. Since I was too late for the other precinct report posts then I have a report of my own to share. It was about 1130 AM at the neighborhood high school on the south side of Chicago. turnout was very light. weather was cloudy and when I left there were two people standing outside collection signatures for Ald. Beale and another one collecting signtures for current city treasurer Kurt Summers. Not a very exciting day in my area at the polls today. lol

Comment by Levois Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:28 pm

  10. Bloomingdale Township 63, DuPage County-50 degrees, cloudy and windy, no lines, at 11:45 I was the 227th person to vote. So many signs on the parkway makes exiting the lot a risky endeavor.

Comment by Cable Line Beer Gardener Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:32 pm

  11. Fire department called to the polling place in Clifton for smoke in the building. Just a failed heat pump motor.

Comment by ryan Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:37 pm

  12. - Roadiepig -, I hope you earn you faith in me every day. Thanks.

Pace is at 2012, if the early/absentees come in like judges think. I don’t know for certain if Kendall Co will be shagging Pluses after 3 pm reports.

As an aside… glad to see @JoinTomCross didn’t golf, (h/t @capitolfax), when I was taken to OPD HQ, we drove by Fox Bend’s 6th hole, I thought I saw his golf cart. My bad. Apologies.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:38 pm

  13. I just voted. Only things being passed were petitions for the current Alderman. My polling place serves two precincts, and it was a full house, with people waiting in line for ballots and voting booths.

But you can’t go by that. This is Hyde Park.

Comment by JoanP Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:40 pm

  14. Busy precinct with an interesting twist. Everyone was being herded into a long line manned by one person with a computer.

When asked, the election official directing everyone into the line said that that was how it was to be. After a few pointed questions regarding where are the voter registration cards, it became clear that they were all there around the corner, out of direct line of sight with no voters asking for their ballots. Once that became clear, half the line moved over and got their ballots immediately.

The line was not for registered voters. Can’t tell if voters left due to the length of the line, but kind of curious that the voter lists were kind of hidden…..

    Comment by Plutocrat03 Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:50 pm

  15. “Proudly voted for my favorite write in candidate instead Oswego Willy!”

So far the exit polling has Oswego Willy with 100% of the vote. Big upset in the making.

Comment by AFSCME Steward Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:55 pm

  16. SE DuPage Co. 12:30 More voting booths than usual, three quarters full - no wait. Young AA woman in line before me was sure she had registered to vote, had ID with address, no registration in folder. Signage for D challenger in District Representative race was not in the collection of signs outside the door. As we were leaving, met her replanting her missing signs.

Comment by Anon Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:55 pm

  17. Breezy and cloudy, mid-50s in the northwest suburbs.

Power out at Fremd High School in Palatine Township. Very GOP precinct.

Confusion at some other polling places in schools that tried to separate voters from students.

Cook County voter registration laptops not working at Prospect High in Mt. Prospect so the GOP election judges are using the paper voter cards. (No Dem election judges at that GOP precinct.)

David Orr needs to figure out a better system. The new technology is confizzling the election judges.

Brisk pace at all polling locations I’ve seen. Steady, but seems a bit higher turnout than usual.

    Comment by A. Nonymous Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:56 pm

  18. My polling place in Chicago, no lines, no waiting. 1/2 the booths empty. No sign of any campaign workers or poll watchers. No campaign signs either.

Comment by AFSCME Steward Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 12:58 pm

  19. - AFSCME Steward -,

“The campaign is cautiously optimistic, but if the trend holds, it will at least lead to an interesting finish.”

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 1:00 pm

  20. About 11:00 in east DuPage. It was fairly busy for work hours, but then my polling place is a retirement home, so many were residents (although not all). No wait at all for the paper ballot, but there were a couple ahead of me for the electronic ballot. The judge I talked to said it had been pretty steady all day. This is majorly Republican territory.

The woman in front of me had moved almost a year ago (within the county; their records still showed her at her old address, where she was told she could go to vote) and her registration hadn’t been updated; she said she had come to that location for the primary, too, and the same thing had happened, but she thought it had gotten fixed. I heard the judge tell her that there had already been a few others in the same situation and it looked like she already had a list of 10-12 people with new addresses on her list that must have had the same issue.

  21. 35/21 in Logan Square. Two ballot sheets, so I was voter 80.5 (161 total). Guess someone didn’t turn in the questions.

    Comment by Anon2 Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 1:20 pm

  22. Voted about 30 minutes ago in Chicago East Lakeview - it was busier than usual for mid-day. Poll worker said it had been pretty busy this morning.

    Comment by OldSmoky2 Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 1:23 pm

  23. My precinct in Tazewell County was busier than I expected just after 11:00. I don’t really have a gauge on what’s normal, new county for me this year.

Comment by anon Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 1:23 pm

  24. I thought the turnout was high in West Loop, but I was informed you had to divide the vote count of 226 by 2 because we all had 2 ballots. I had 12 judges and 73 judicial retention questions. So 113 isn’t too exciting.

This was a year without political signs in Chicago. I usually see a rainbow of color on election day. Not this year.

Comment by Rhino Slider Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 1:26 pm

  25. Rain has let up in Peoria County but it is COLD now, feels colder than this morning. I voted early but am serving as an on-call lawyer (for the Dems) for any problems; it’s been quiet in Peoria County, not much need for us.

Comment by Peoria Poll Watcher Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 1:28 pm

  26. Zero Republican presense in an area that could have seen some defection. Heavy turnout of Hispanics, many first time voters too. My gut says that’s not good for Rauner.

Comment by Lyons Township Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 1:28 pm

  27. Will County at Joliet West Library. 5 or 6 people in line. Moved along. Use paper ballots where you darken the ovals. Voters kept taking pencils with them so had some booths with no pencils. No poll watchers under the age of 80. Few voters under the age of 70. I’m in my 60’s. I feel young.

Comment by Silent Majority Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 1:30 pm

  28. My downstate precinct was busier than usual. I noticed a lot of older voters with walkers, wheelchairs with sons/daughters/friends. Went at 11:00-spent an hour talking to neighbors.

Comment by Soccertease Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 1:34 pm

  29. Just checked for voice mail on my home phone. I got a robocall from Bruce this a.m. asking for my vote. Must be worried about downstate.

Comment by Nearly Normal Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 1:41 pm

  30. Newspapers in Bloomington, Peoria and Champaign are reporting heavier than normal turnout. In Bloomington in 2010 they had a 54.2% when Bill Brady ran. In 2014 there projecting 55% to 60%.

Comment by DandyDon Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 1:49 pm

  31. Frankfort IL … Heavy turnout reported by judges….189 votes at 10:30….republican district.

Comment by OutSider Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 2:05 pm

  32. They only had paper ballots at my voting place. They gave people an ink pen to mark our votes. I thought one needed a #2 pencil to cast a vote on a paper ballot. Plus the machine that sucked up the double-sided paper ballots was so slow the judge standing there read mine and everyone else’s votes. The good news is Northeastern Sangamon Co is having a heavy turn out due to the crappy weather today.

Comment by Mama Tuesday, Nov 4, 14 @ 2:11 pm

  33. Just voted in Orland Park sports plex very busy . The committee woman handing out for Rauner also Lipinski their. Me election judge said over 55 percent voted already. Still long lines

  34. Right now, 340 out of 940 in precinct voted today. That’s in north Normal. Counting early voting that’s about 34% so far.

  36. Checked in at 1:00 at my Winfield Township DuPage polling place. After a heavy surge this morning things have settled to a steady pace. There were 540 votes cast in the four precincts there.

  38. OMG! Some Chicago precincts without election judges! That’s terrible. The Chicago Board of Elections has to do a better job at recruitment.

Maybe next time the precinct judges of elections will have to be conscripted.

  39. Woah - did you see that 53% Chicago turnout tweet?
