Anyone know who these folks are?

The Realtor’s PAC stands out as the only business group on Quinn’s side. What gives with that?

27 million out his own pocket? Why? Was it that important for him to be governor? With that much money he could buy his own country.
Comment by Ginhouse Tommy Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 11:06 am
Of course it was that important to him for him to be governor or he would not have spent it. Shrugs.
Comment by Peoria Guy Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 11:09 am
Great list of everyday people

Lets keep a close eye on appointments now. We don’t want a Blagojevich 2.0.
Should we be looking at the $25,000 level? Or is it higher?
Comment by okgo Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 11:12 am
Making it more inexplicable why Quinn chose to alienate his base with the pension theft. The union organizations may have donated $ but the members didn’t go to the polls to vote for him.

It looks like Rauner has stacked up a lot of obligations. Hang on folks….it’s gonna be a rough ride.
Comment by Jasper Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 11:22 am
Jasper, Rauner could self-fund a re-election twice as expensive and still not bat an eye.
Comment by Lunchbox Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 11:29 am
At risk of being fitted for that tin foil hat –
$27 million to be Gov? That’s sounds crazy.
$27 million to provide a base to run for President? After you’ve made millions, what else is there? It is the ultimate vanity purchase.
Maybe he’s thinking one term, declare it a success, and then use Republican from a blue state as the means to 2020.
On the other hand, if he blew $27 million just to be IL Gov., that’s crazy.
Comment by Gooner Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 11:35 am
President Obama won in 2012 despite huge expenditures against him by very few wealthy people of the likes of Sheldon Adelson and the Koch brothers. Pat Quinn is not Barack Obama.
Still, weren’t we warned in the past about very few wealthy people having so much money to get access to the government?
I believe also that unions can have too much power, and that’s not right necessarily, but unions represent many thousands of workers, whereas Rauner and Griffin are only two people.
I heard on the news this morning, with the October 2014 jobs report, that wages are still stagnant, and the very wealthy again made gains.
I also heard that during this election, two thirds of voters saw income inequality as a problem…yet the majority voted for a party whose policies favor the very wealthy. W-o-w.

“27 million out his own pocket? Why? Was it that important for him to be governor?”
• Bruce Rauner is presumed to be a billionaire.
• A billion dollars is one thousand million dollars.
• The 27 million dollars that Bruce Rauner spent on his campaign is proportionally equivalent to just $2,700 for a man with $100,000. (Just drop the last four zeros off of each number.) And that money was spent over the course of two years.
• As a proportion of his billion dollar wealth, Bruce Rauner’s campaign for governor was a relatively inexpensive hobby.

In the mid 1970’s the threshold was $25K for directorship of a large agency and $10K for a smaller one; it’s a bit higher today.
Comment by RNUG Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 12:29 pm
Gooner - considering that Rick Scott spent $75 million in 2010 and John Corzine spent $38 million in 2005, I would say Bruce Rauner spent less than her perhaps could/should have spent.
Comment by Team Sleep Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 1:10 pm
The real question is what Rauner expects as a return on his investment. Guys like that are too proud to make a bad investment.
Comment by Gabe Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 1:26 pm
Looks like the Union Bosses lost big. This does not bode well for them…
Comment by Black Ivy Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 1:29 pm
BI, whats going to happen to the “union bosses?”
Quinn had money to compete. Rauners great success was scaring off virtually all money to his primary opponents.
Comment by Wordslinger Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 1:34 pm
So it looks like the bet on Rauner is that he is going to dole out the various Pension Investments to the Ken Griffens and Paul Singers of the world, ala Chris Christie…That’s trouble with these financial bubbles.

Realtors can’t outsource.
In order for them to make money, people actually have to want to live in this state.
Comment by crazybleedingheart Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 2:35 pm
Sounds like the best government money can buy.
Comment by Waldi Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 2:38 pm
That is a lot of money. Gabe is right—what does he expect in return?
Comment by Belle Friday, Nov 7, 14 @ 3:58 pm
Rauner spent the money because he wanted the gig as a status symbol, like a Manhattan penthouse with a moat or an oceanfront Key Largo estate.
He gets bodyguards, doors will be opened for him, his caravan can run red lights, etc. He poured millions into other politicians, why should they get the perks?
He’s already made plenty off public pensions, Medicare, Medicaid, and gaming the bankruptcy courts. He ain’t looking to soak the taxpayers for personal gain any longer.
He just wants to be introduced as Gov. Rauner, like Conrad wanted to be addressed as Lord Black of Crossharbour.
