* Tom Kacich gives us some good news about Gordy Hulten, a longtime friend of this blog who did very well on election day…
In all the countywide, contested races the top vote-getter was Republican County Clerk Gordy Hulten with 32,261 votes, or 60.7 percent over challenger Scott Hays, who ran a good race but didn’t become a candidate until late August. Hulten, meanwhile, had run two years earlier and had a high name identification. The only other candidates to get more than 30,000 votes were Republican Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka (30,848 votes, 57.4 percent) and Democratic Secretary of State Jesse White (30,551 votes, 56.3 percent).
* The Question: What was the most positive (to you) local election result this year?

That a Kendall County Rep. Anthony (whom I don’t know, or …ever met) won and could be someone in the Caucus that Leader Durkin can look to to give more responsibilities.

With the election of rauner I would have to say it is very positive to have Mike Fierichs as treasurer. He will be a check on rauner and JBT. Thank God the offices comptroller and treasurer were never combined!

No county contests because Chairman Aaron Del Mar could not find it within himself to file petitions on behalf of Republican challengers in Cook County.
The Democratic incumbents coasted to reelection without opponents.

Tom Cross losing was positive for me also. I’m not sure why, but his personality always rubbed me the wrong way.

County Clerks do tend to garner high local support. Gordy’s peer to the South, Jackson County Clerk Larry W. Reinhardt received 66% of the vote (10,503 votes)followed by Jessie White with 60% (9751 votes) and Mike Bost 56% or (9,188 votes)

In addition to beating back the retention challenge to Justice Karmeier, several circuit judge races (won by Republicans) serve as notice to the Madigan County attorneys that the judicial races won’t always go their way.

I no longer live in Grundy Co, but was very happy that Sheriff Kevin Callahan was retained. He was hired back in the 80’s as a patrol officer, worked his was up to Undersheriff and took over as Sheriff two years ago when the Sheriff passed away. Grundy Co. is lucky to have such an experienced, steady hand as the Sheriff. It was a very bright spot on election day.

Rauner predicted the GOP would have the majority in the General Assembly within eight years. The most significant outcome of this election is that the GOP gained a grand total of one seat this year.

Voters rejecting Liberty Principles PAC candidates in district after district after boldly claiming credit for the election outcome.
Nothing like watching a wide receiver spike the ball on the four yard line and initiate the old end zone dance.

I was going to say, “no more campaign ads”, but then this morning I was hit with a TV commercial for Rahm.

Even though I didn’t vote for the guy, the most positive thing in my area was that Christian Mitchell had a high quality GOP opponent.
I’m a big fan of Christian, but I also think we need a functioning two party system in Chicago. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction.

Carla Wyckoff for Lake County Clerk. Ran a solid campaign highlighting her professional abilities without uttering a negative word. Hit a walk off grand slam in a rookie effort.
