Oh, Dear! It’s much worse than even a brilliant businessman like me could have imagined! It’s Blago’s fault I’ll have to raise taxes! Nevermind what I said last month!

Dear Bruce,
Thanks for your bleak outlook. We thought we elected a governor. But I guess we elected a candidate. Building credibility means having solutions, not listing off who is to blame and why. Solving today’s problems doesn’t include the tradition Festivus “Airing of Grievances.” Come up with a plan, and present it, instead of this garbage press conference. Thanks.

Ugh. The special funds are part of the problem. Don’t restore them — shut them down!!!

Glad to hear that Rauner is ending dishonesty in politics.
Time to implement that honest budget plan from the campaign.
So when do I get my honest property tax freeze? I honestly didn’t understand what Rauner was talking about, but he promised and I want it, whatever it is. Honestly.

Ugh. Right out the gate with blame and negativity. Could someone let Schrimpf know the campaign is over? Great minds discuss IDEAS.

The tone of the “booby trap” handout is disappointing. You can be honest without being a jerk about it.

Welp, if Rauner wasn’t a politican before, he sounds more and more like one.
The state fiscal mess won’t bother me much after my property taxes are frozen by Gov. Rauner.

While laying blame is distatsteful it is most likely a precurser to the “we have to raise taxes to deal with these past issues” press conference in Febuary.
That said PQ is gone no need to keep kicking him. Let him pack his bags in peace.
As for everyone else any deal you need, Gov-Elect, is going to need help from a good portion of those legislators your pointing the finger at.

Bruce taking a page from the first chapter of the Jim Thompson book of governorship? Hope he reads the entire book first.

Let’s cut a little slack. Fact: most of us on here knew generally where we were on the ‘15 budget, and could infer the ‘16 budget problem from there. However, these guys are now in the position of finding out, as nearly as possible, EXACTLY where we are in ‘15, because they have to build ‘16 from there, and they can’t build on approximations. I’m willing to wait and see.

Mr. Rauner, if you want to prove that you’re really trying to do something different, take on those special funds and the special interests that created them. There are 640 special funds, which make up almost 40 percent of state revenues. As the Trib ed board wrote in 2006, those funds protect yesterday’s priorities at the expense of today’s. Fix it.

Mom, many of them are fee-based, and general you can’y use fees to support general state government. Are ther some that could and should go? I think so. But it isn’t a panacea. Hunters, firearm permit holders, members of many different professions and occupations, et al didn’t agree to their fees (and to the raises to them over the years) to support general state government.
