* Sheila Simon…
As for Simon’s successor, Lt. Gov.-elect Evelyn Sanguinetti – who, like many in the circle of Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner, keeps a low public profile – she said, “Now’s the time to get to know (Sanguinetti). Let’s see what happens, and, as I always did during my term, wish that the governor has very good health and continues to stay fit and active.”

Oh.
Comment by A guy Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:00 am
Wish? More like pray for Rauner’s good health.
I don’t think Simon was trying to be as mean as that quote might sound. Mine, on the other hand, is meant to be mean. A Governor Sanguinetti would be a disaster.
Comment by 47th Ward Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:07 am
Classy.
Comment by Soccermom Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:09 am
Simon will be first to announce she running again
Comment by 11th warder Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:10 am
I don’t think Simon was trying to sound mean and snarky either, but that kind of does. Shows how tone deaf she can be.
Not that I disagree with the sentiment.
Comment by Ron Burgundy Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:10 am
“Just shut up” is mean. But can also be good advise. In a mean way, of course
Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:14 am
Now if Simon added…
“I hope they add carpets and handrails on the Capitol, and the state’s liability insurance is paid up as well…”
That would have been even better.
Slip and Sue is having an inaugural cow tipping event, so tgat should be fun.
Flip side?
If a Dope like me wants to say snark, it’s just snark.
The sitting LG takes a shot at the LG-Elect, when the Transition Team and current Administration are trying to do their best to help with the trabsfer of power….
…reminds me how glad I am that Sheila is leaving the stage.
The words she spoke; fun and snarky…but it matters a great deal who says them.
Goodbye Sheila. Now just go.

==and, as I always did during my term, wish that the governor has very good health and continues to stay fit and active.”==
Trust us, Sheila, we all were wishing the exact same thing the last four years.
Comment by Anonymoiis Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:18 am
So basically she is as uncooth and akward as she appeared to be in the news.
Comment by Ghost Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:18 am
OK that made me laugh, Sheila.
(I don’t think it was either mean- or classy- as much as it was just totally clueless and not necessary for her to comment on or address at all.
Comment by Responsa Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:22 am
I personally hope everyone stays healthy, fit and active. Apparently Sheila only wishes that for Illinois Governors or else why would she say something so stupid?
Comment by Jaded Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:25 am
Like it or not, she has a valid point. The electorate voted for Bruce Rauner to lead them, not Evelyn Sanguinetti. “Wish that the governor has very good health and continues to stay fit and active” is hardly a slam.
Furthermore, it is a “self-effacing” thing to say anyway. She is saying “I am here to serve if called on (due to fate’s intervention), but it is YOU that was elected to lead this state as Governor, not me. So I wish you good health”.
Comment by Knome Sane Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:29 am
Didn’t we have a Lt. Governor resign one time because he said he was bored? Until Blagojevich I don’t think anybody thought too much about the Lt. Governor’s Office. I view it as kind of like the role of a First Lady (or First Man). They have their pet issues they get to deal with. Other than that there isn’t a lot there unless the Governor gives them anything of importance to do as far as the operation of state government goes.
Comment by Demoralized Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:29 am
who will people have to pick on without Sheila around anymore? move on.

“Now’s the time to get to know (Sanguinetti). Let’s see what happens, and, as I always did during my term, wish that the governor has very good health and continues to stay fit and active.”
“But that’s not what’s worrying me. It’s how to do it. These things must be done delicately… or you hurt the spell.”
Comment by VanillaMan Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:32 am
Knome actually we did vote sanguetti in as gov to lead us if anytjing happens to rauner. Explicitly the electoratebvoted for the whole package, not just half of it
Comment by Ghost Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:42 am
In the best of all possible worlds, there is no need to get to ‘know’ the Lt. Governor at all.
Comment by OneMan Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:46 am
Sheila made me laugh out loud. Thank you.
Comment by john Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:53 am
@Ghost, you missed my point completely.
Comment by Knome Sane Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 10:59 am
Are you sure? Perhaps you are just missing mine your underlying assumptionis that a vote is just for the gov and not the running mate. We actually used to vote for them seperately, until we had the offices split between parties and sitting gov’s afraid to leave the state.
I would say you assign an assumption to shiela and make yourself, that the running mate is not also seldcted by the electorate as the choice to govern
Comment by Ghost Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 11:04 am
Given Slip&Sue’s track record(so to speak) one might want to worry about her continued good health.
Comment by CircularFiringSquad Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 11:08 am
@Ghost
I’ll try to clarify and make a follow-up point: A majority of voters elected Bruce Rauner with the expectation that he will remain fully capable of filling out/completing his full-term. They elected Evelyn Sanguinetti as LT. Governor in the event that he is incapacitated or unable for whatever reason to complete his term. It is “self-effacing” to say “I wish you health so I don’t have to fulfil your duties”.
And, Ghost, be honest: Is Evelyn Sanguinetti suited to be Governor on day one? What about day 1461? The answer is an unequivocal NO.

How do you know. She could be the greatest Governor EVER.
I don’t think so but we have had some very bad Governors in this State.
Or are you just anti conservative women.
People who don’t like her should explain why?
I don’t know anything about her except that she is conservative.
I voted for Quinn but I am a lot more middle of the road then him but Rauner scares me with his bully attitude.

=How do you know.=
Puh-leeze. Everyone knows.
=Or are you just anti conservative women.=
No, I am not anti-anything. Well, except anti-unqualified (to be Governor, that is.)
=I don’t know anything about her…=
And your challenging ME on my comments that she is unfit to be Governor? Do your homework, then we’ll chat. Just because she is a conservative, it doesn’t qualify her to run the 5th largest state in the Union.

Slip and Sue is her own issue. Bruce “hired” her to be a “Co-Governor”…
Use the “search” key.

Nope. For example, if a Lt. Gov candidate, soon to be Lt. Gov. ,made remarks about criminalizing abortion, I would be all over it regardless of gender of the person.

Yeah, good thing no one here makes snarky comments about, well, every other public office holder and candidate in the entire state.

Sanguinetti thought she could put on a matador costume, swing a cape, and then tip over a charging cow. Her mistake.
Comment by VanillaMan Thursday, Jan 8, 15 @ 2:11 pm
Evelyn in a matador outfit would be ambrosial and the most significant improvement to Illinois State Government since Linda Kollmeyer started picking lottery numbers. Ole!

She did not want to criminalize the women having abortions but to criminalize the act of killing a baby.
Protecting babies is not bad.
