Rauner to state employees: “I look forward to coming to see each of you in person very soon”

Posted in:

* Gov. Bruce Rauner sent an e-mail to state workers today…

Good Afternoon!

Yesterday, I visited a number of state agencies and hope to visit many more in the days and weeks ahead to begin a dialogue about how we can improve state services and drive value for taxpayers. I also want to look into how to reward state employees for developing good ideas that make government more efficient and effective, paying bonuses for exceptional performance, and find ways to allow you to keep more money in your pockets.

In the meantime, I wanted to share this video message with you:

http://multimedia.illinois.gov/gov/gov-video-message.html

Thanks for all your hard work.

Bruce

* In the video, a smiling governor says he not only wants to meet all state workers, but said he also wanted them to have “good, fair compensation with appropriate” benefits. “I’d like to find ways where you could be compensated with bonuses” for increasing productivity, he said, and added that he wanted to help them keep more of their “hard-earned money” in their own pockets (no union dues perhaps?).

Anyway, I can’t figure out how to embed the thing, so click here and watch the video.

  1. Here’s an opportunity for some of the folks here to offer their advice.

  2. Followed SoccerMom’s advice on this blog.

Or at least confirmed it was good advice.

  3. I’ve seem this movie before it’s called “Office Space”

Rauner meets you, then the Two Bobs “meet you” (h/t - wordslinger -) and you lose your red stapler

The next move is to ask if they could come in on Saturday - “That would be great…”

  4. Wow. If only PQ had listened to my advice this closely…

  5. - Soccermom -,

    You need to Bill them.

They have $20 million on hand

  6. Once I take away your right to collectively bargain, you’ll get to keep your union dues! And once you don’t have a union, I can impose a crap health care plan that costs next to nothing! And then I’ll take away your pensions, so you’ll get to keep your pension contribution! More money in your pocket!

  7. I got this email and when I saw the bit about bonuses, I figured it must be a hoax/spam and was afraid to click on the video link for fear of a virus.

  8. Should have the meetings without the agency leadership in the room, they would be more informative.

Comment by Anonymous Friday, Jan 16, 15 @ 3:06 pm

  9. The only negative I can see is if contract negotiations go bad later and Rauner says something during these meetings he may regret…

Or…if collective bargaining issues arise and Rauner says something specific that could haunt him.

    Otherwise, really good move

  10. Hmm, I wonder what he is talking about here, something tells me it isn’t about tax cuts or reductions in benefit costs… “find ways to allow you to keep more money in your pockets”

  11. Thanks for the the high tech greating. No one in our Dept. can view it on our new computers cuz it reqires an update to flash player which we aren’t allowed to download without at least 4 signature of our higher-ups. Thanks Cap Fax for sending along a trascript.

  13. I wonder how AFSCME is going to look at the idea of bonuses for Productivity? I suspect that dog won’t hunt.

  14. I heard the Governor went to the IDOT office and was well received. That agency has taken a beating the last 12 years under Blago and Quinn, so morale may be on the uptick there.

Comment by Stooges Friday, Jan 16, 15 @ 3:45 pm

  15. I think Blagojevich greeted public employees with his list of retirees he said scammed the system. Considering the source, I guess he meant it as a compliment.

  16. What’s increased productivity and how is it measured? What is productivity in DCFS casework and HFS versus IDFPR and DCEO?

  17. “…the celebration on Monday night was terrific. I hope you had a chance to party with Toby Keith. It was a wonderful time.”

I couldn’t afford the cover charge.

  18. That’s a good start to the employer/employee relationship. Neither of the previous two governors ever had a real plan for improving state government. To be successful, though, he is going to have to completely change the management culture in my agency. My co-workers and I stopped suggesting improvements a long time ago because we know there is no hope that those changes would ever be implemented. Developing a bonus program will only help if management is actually willing to try new things. That currently isn’t the case in my agency.

  21. Bruce was sweet enought to issue EO 15-10 bashing IDOT while he was at IDOT. Super classy move. I would say everyone was respectful of the office, not the man. His big move of the visit? Selfies for everyone!

  22. “I love you crazy amok-running bureaucrats. We’re going to have a contest. First place, a new Cadillac. Second place, a set of steak knives. Third place…… “

Comment by Wordslinger Friday, Jan 16, 15 @ 4:04 pm

  23. CMS used to give bonus awards for money-saving employee suggestions, but I don’t think that’s been active for some time. Towards the end, they wouldn’t look at a savings idea unless it was universally applicable.

  24. His email ended up in my junk folder. What I heard was blah blah blah. The rapidly blinking eyes were a give away for the cognitive dissonance.

  25. Visiting all the offices actually a pretty good idea for week 1. Visiting all the non-Springfield non-Chicago offices would be even better. Such as a a prison or 2 next week.

  26. I would think a lot of state workers remember that campaign ad when Rauner said he was going to ruin the CEO’s life. They better be ready to listen but also follow through. Otherwise who knows what action he will take against them.
