Question of the day *** Updated x1 ***

Posted in:

Who will be the state’s top vote-getter this year? And with what percent?

*** UPDATE *** At least Stu Umholtz is realistic about his chances.

Umholtz, 47, of Pekin, admitted it would be an upset if he actually won. On a greater scale, he’s hoping this bid will win him the necessary name recognition for a run in 2010, when Madigan is rumored to run for governor.

  6. I think many of us in the Governers race are going to write in none of the above, it should be a winner

Comment by independent Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 10:02 am

  7. Jesse White - 74%

Comment by Niles Township Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 10:18 am

  8. Lisa. Her opponent is largely unknown and seems content to stay that way.

Jesse White will get a huge margin too.

    Comment by cermak_rd Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 10:31 am

  9. I agree with the White and L. Madigan comments. Both should garner about a 15-20% winning margin.

Of course, there are several incumbents with no challenger so they’ll be the state’s top vote getters with a 100% margin.

Comment by NW burbs Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 10:33 am

  10. Hines will be up there–my guess is he might do best. Rutherford is at least trying and Madigan’s last name is Madigan so Stu Who? will close the gap a bit.

However, Dan is well known and liked and Pankau is non-existent and, well, dumb.

Comment by ArchPundit Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 11:08 am

  11. White, LMadigan, Hynes, in that order. Can’t predict numbers but they will be huge.

Comment by Little Egypt Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 11:09 am

  12. Lisa Madigan - 62 percent

  13. Rich — how about posting a link to our earlier predictions? I think you asked us to predict all statewide races six weeks ago.

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 11:17 am

  14. Blagojevich will be the top vote-getter with The jury will vote unanimously (100%) to conivct him.

Comment by Squideshi Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 11:26 am

  15. Sean Penn sweeps the Oscars with 90% of the vote for his performance as Willie Stark. And if you think I am serious, you’re right!!! And that is what makes me sick….

    Comment by Lovie's Leather Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 11:37 am

  16. I believe that the top vote getters will probably be Mr White and Mr. Stufflebeam. Mr. White (Jesse) for having obtained about two and a half million votes last time around and Mr. Stufflebeam because many voters of both major parties and others are sick of the corruption in the bastion of Cook County, the stuff of Governor Blagojevich, and Judy Topinka’s long connections to former Governor (now convicted felon) George Ryan. from Rochford having tossed out both a Republican and Democrat Mayor for a third party candidate by voters; to the far Southern Illinois of Carbondale, I believe voters no longer have to hold their nose and can confidently vote for long overdue needed change with a write0in candidate. when Abraham Lincoln was elected our 16th President, the GOP was only 4 years old and still considered a third political party. There was no telephones, no radio political ads, no emails or internet, just word of mouth and letter writing. In this day and age, Illinoians I believe, are longing for a third party, honest, candidate to become the next Governor of Illinois. Percentage wise—Stufflebeam 65% and probably same for both Mr. White’s (Jesse and Randy Wite).

  17. Lisa Madigan re-elected as Attorney General, 71%.

Comment by Ravenswood Right Winger Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 1:28 pm

  18. Dan Hynes, with a new boost of support from Barack Obama, will hit 68% for the top showing statewide.

  19. Wants to get name recognition???!!!! What a strange campaign to be running if you want name recognition. If you want people to remember your name… maybe you should go out and talk to them….

    Comment by Lovie's Leather Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 4:06 pm

  20. That’s the exact thought I had. What name recognition? My sibs live in the center of the state and I figured maybe he was running a better campaign there, but no, they hadn’t heard of him either.

    Comment by cermak_rd Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 4:26 pm

  21. The state’s top vote getter this year will be Madigan, followed by Hynes and White.

I’m interested in seeing what Whitney being in the race does to Blago’s numbers (my daddy being one who refuses to vote for Blago or JBT will vote for him just so he can say he voted).

Comment by Tessa Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 5:32 pm

  22. Squid - GREAT POST!

Comment by Little Egypt Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 6:12 pm

  23. I would not throw Rutherford or Radagno under the bus yet. Jesse’s 2,000,000 votes came against a no name at the height of the George Ryan miseries. He has an opponent who is strong enough this time that he does not want to face in open debates. Plus he now has convicted employees under his watch and all his relatives working for the state of Illinois. Radagno has been everywhere as well. Ms. Madigan better hope her half daddy doesn’t die before she makes her run. The backlash against her because of his tactics for the last 30 years will be frightening. She will probably lead the Democrat ticket and eke out a victory. The rest of the ticket will go down with Blagojevich!!!

Comment by Muletown Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 6:14 pm

  24. Lisa Madigan with 75%, and she deserves it.

Comment by So Blue Democrat Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 6:43 pm

  25. Lisa Madigan=70+%; followed by Dan Hynes, then Dan Rutherford and Christine Radogno. Next is Jesse White. Rod Blagojevich and Judy Baar Topinka will be close either way. Stewart Umholtz and then Carrol Pankau. However, somewhere in the mix we’ll see Joe Birkett definately take Pat Quinn out for Lt Gov! Hynes will keep his spot. What with the corruption scandals, I’d like to see Topinka win, as well as Birkett and Dan Rutherford. Madigan has done okay and Umholtz’s heart just isn’t in it, now. He wants to run but I feel like he was pressured four years too early. White has family working for him and Blago certainly doesn’t deserve another term other than a prison term. Carol will loose to her opponent and I favor Rodagno to be the next Treasurer.

Comment by Uncle Stan Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 7:13 pm

  26. whitney for governor. Illinois dumps both of sad regular party candidates. It could be like the primary in 1986 with surprises.

Comment by annie Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 10:29 pm

  27. Jesse White 93%
    Lisa Madigan 77%
    Dan Hynes 67%
    Rod Blagojevich 60%

Comment by Democrat Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 11:09 pm

  28. Jesse White 93%

Democrat, why not a unanimous reelection of Jesse White?

    Comment by Lovie's Leather Monday, Sep 25, 06 @ 11:41 pm

  29. Something like this is also possible:

    Whitney 34%
    Blagojevich 33%
    Topinka 33%

Comment by Squideshi Tuesday, Sep 26, 06 @ 8:40 am

  30. he is in the spotlight over hiring family members. If it wasn’t for that he would get 100%

Comment by Democrat Tuesday, Sep 26, 06 @ 1:50 pm

  31. Madigan. She is just kicking the hospitals around over the charity care, billing, and aggressive patient collections issue like they are a big football, or something. Since this state is in such bad fiscal shape, why don’t we just tax these so-called non-profit hospitals already? Forget casinos. Tax the hospitals!

Madigan. Even if you vote GOP for the gubernatorial spot, put Lisa back in there as Attorney General. The way I see it, Illinois government is so corrupt that maybe voters ought to ticket split a bit in order to take a piecemeal path to some semblance of real reform. Could be wishful thinking, but it’s a start.
